Genuinely wild that in a show with a million monologues and absolutely great dialogue... the writers just decided to give Those moments to almost everyone BUT Cassian... the title character in his own show.... like why couldnt he have gone on a rant after "do I look thankful to you" or any other of the many opportunities we had to digest *how* he felt about the empire, his life, Kenari, ferrix, fucking PRISON as a child???, his losses, even his wants, and what he thought about it all???? The opportunities to do so was constant!!! And they gave him crumbs

complaining about cassian's characterization again. s1 did an excellent job of showing how his traumatic experiences still controlled his life after decades: how he failed to hold a steady, respectable job and fully integrate himself into the ferrixian community, how he was incapable of maintaining long-term romantic, familial, and platonic relationships, & also how his rebel awakening helped him recontextualize those experiences through the lens of imperial oppression. he was parentified, kidnapped, and trafficked as a child and struggled to regulate his emotions as an adult - the rebellion provides a sense of purpose and a channel for his rage, grief, and love. but then s2 says don't worry about that. he worked through it, he can manage his emotions, he can be a good & supportive if mildly overprotective partner, and it's actually getting in the way of his work in the rebellion. as if (checks notes) joining the fucking military actually improves emotional regulation & diffuses traumatic memories rather than exacerbating them. really revolutionary stuff.

I appreciate The Empire Strikes Back for being the only time I can think of when a character just shot their enemy as soon as they saw them without pausing or having a dramatic moment beforehand.

god, bodhi rook really is what star wars is all about contained in a single character. it’s about hope. it’s about doing what’s right even when it isn’t easy, even when it’s the hardest and scariest thing you’ve ever done. it’s about how it’s never too late to be a better version of yourself and that sometimes all you need is someone to believe you can be good.
