Publishing your work online and wanting the approval of your audience makes it hard to remember sometimes that you don't owe anyone your creativity. Sure, it's a give and take. You bless them with your work and they show gratitude. But one does not dictate the other.

Write and create when you feel like it, not because you feel forced to satisfy someone else.

Art evolution tag game

Thanks so much for tagging me @diana-bluewolf !!

Her is the evolution of my art. I actually started drawing very early, from third grade as long as I remember, and since then drawing has always been my hobby. It's always so fun to see how my style and drawing theme have changed throughout the years.

Unfortunately, I don't have access to my earlier drawings from primary and secondary school, but I remember it was mostly fashion sketches (I once wanted to become a fashion designer haha) and manga fanart (Naruto, KHR, Inuyasha...) .

HIGH SCHOOL

2010 - 2012 I was obsessed with Hetalia and FMA. I also learned Tarot and drew my first original tarot deck (it never finished). And maybe that time was my rebellious period so my drawings were usually (a bit too) dark and bloody. I drew mostly with pencils & ballpoint pens.

UNIVERSITY (2013 - 2017)

It wasn't until my first year of university that I truly started taking my drawing seriously. My artwork was still abit personal and reflected some of my unstable mental health (probably bc I had just moved to Japan). After creating an Instagram account, I began learning watercolor more seriously (I had actually worked with watercolor earlier but never cared about how to use it correctly).

In my second and third years of university, my paintings became more colorful and covered a wider range of themes. I only made fanart of Dota 2 and Sound Horizon. Aside from that, my artworks usually focused on personal experiences and magical creatures.

At this moment I realized that I LOVEEEE drawing full-background arts.

POST GRADUATION (2017 ~ 2021) I made lots of game fanarts (Don't Starve, Transistor, Borderlands, Genshin Impact...). Especially the Arcana, I'm a huge fan, I created my Tumblr account just to join The Arcana fandom.

Then something terrible happened to me, and I fell into art block for two years...

2024 AND NOW

Hogwarts Legacy inspired me to draw again😭💜

And I'm also making my own Dota 2 Tarot deck, it's actually my 4rd attempt trying to finish a whole deck but I'll try my best this time :"(

✧ Once Black announced Quidditch was to be reinstated in 6th year, Imelda wasted no time in recruiting Ellie since she had beaten all her broom racing records the previous year and had proven herself to be both a good sport and a good friend

✧ Sometimes a challenging personality to coach, but Imelda is a strong captain who Ellie respects, so she can motivate her to do her best

✧ She and Imelda had a little ✨tension✨ on the pitch while she taught Ellie how to play 😏😘🤫 but I HC that for the sake of staying focused on her ambitions, Imelda self-imposes a strict no-dating rule for herself and they remained just friends

✧ She's a fast learner and an agile flyer who loves to be active, so she picked up the sport quickly and determined the Keeper position suited her best (the humor of which was not lost on her). She also discovered the atmosphere on the pitch and the elements of danger involved in Quidditch appealed to her too

✧ Ellie wasn’t sure how she’d fare on a team at first, but she brings a fun presence to the group, does her best to add some lightness even during tough training sessions, and gets along well with the others

✧ Quidditch is also one way she vents her rage in a healthy way, and while it's by no means a cure, doing physical activity helped a bit with her depression and insomnia after barely making it through everything the previous year

✧ Despite seeming cool as a cucumber outside, she was a bit nervous about her first match and needed a little pep talk beforehand

✧ Ellie is a practical girlie who wears her hair back to keep it out of her face while playing (despite the lack of short up-dos in available to me in-game)

✧ Generally acts like she doesn’t care that much about the outcome, but her competitive side really comes out in matches and her actions speak louder than her words (perhaps a bit too competitive at times, as you saw in my previous Quidditch Ellie post 😅)

✧ She's got a keen eye, a strategic mind, and she’s in position to watch out for her team as Keeper, so if one of Imelda's strategies isn't working (unlikely, but still) Ellie can think of alternatives on the fly and suggests them (tactfully) to her captain because she's confident her ideas will work to benefit the Slytherins

✧ Slytherin Keeper in 6th and 7th year ✧ Though Imelda is her close friend and respected captain, Ellie hates that she makes the team wake up ridiculously early for practices and grumbles about it ✧ Doesn't buy into the house rivalries much outside of Quidditch, but she has some cheeky house-specific taunts in her back pocket for matches ✧ Very competitive and strategic, and not afraid to play aggressively/dirty - she'll kick opponents in the face if need be and break rules if it's advantageous the team ✧ Takes losses hard and mopes in the showers when she feels it's her fault ✧ Celebrates wins just as hard! She'd be the one sourcing Butterbeers and other celebratory drinks for the team's common room parties ✧ Eats sooooo much to keep up her strength to play and she's always hungry after being active ✧ She's not sure why all her teammates are so good looking, but she's not complaining about it either - practice is just another flirting opportunity for her at this point

Art evolution tag game

A very long post because I enjoyed remembering it all and want to save it here. Although I started drawing when I was a kid, I didn't draw constantly and often forgot about drawing for years. An occasional artist, I would say.

2007-2010 (Sadly, I don't have access to my earlier drawings but before that I had been drawing occasionally for ~7 years.) I drew mostly with gouache and loved drawing water because I was obsessed with Aivazovsky. Oh and Fullmetal Alchemist was my main inspiration for years.

2010-2011. First attempts to draw digitally. Turned out it wasn't easy. I felt like I had to learn drawing from scratch because everything looked much worse than I used to draw. But there was still one beautiful thing about it - I didn’t care whether it looked good or bad, I just enjoyed the process.

2015-2016 mostly did urban sketching + tried oil painting

2017-2018. I was surprised to remember the first one, looks a bit familiar 🤨 But it’s just a random nameless OC. The rest - my marauders era.

2021. I don't think I had any fun at this point. I was too focused on drawing PERFECTLY. Spent literally months for one drawing. Of course I just burned out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Didn’t draw for 3 years after that.

2024-2025. Now, I just draw things for fun and keep it easy. Most of them are simpler than I used to draw, I barely draw proper backgrounds, I just love to experiment with lighting and colour. I guess what I'm learning now - how to let go of perfectionism and just enjoy the process of drawing regardless of the result.
