Making the Earth Sustainable for Future Generations

Every year on the 22nd of April, people step out on the streets to celebrate Earth Day. The day is filled with ideas, determination, hopes, and promises that they would try to protect the planet from the various issues that it faces like deforestation and pollution. People take part in rallies, conferences, service groups, and outdoor practices such as picking up litter from the street with that one aim – to bring a change; to make the planet a better and healthier place.
Since 1970, when the first Earth Day was observed giving birth to a broad new movement to protect the planet, there certainly has been an improvement. People have become aware of what harms the Earth, why to stop using it and what thing can replace it. They know how the burning of fossil fuels affects the environment and are looking toward renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar energy; there are now laws for clean air and water, endangered species, and there is awareness about climate change among the people. However, there are still many hurdles to cross to achieve our goal.
Now the question that arises – why do we celebrate this day just once a year? Why are we only focused and mindful of our actions towards the planet one day, and from the next day we go back to our old activities? We need a change in our lifestyle. We need to incorporate certain practices that promote sustainable living and make it a part of our day-to-day lives.
There are various things we can adopt that can bring a radical change in our lifestyle – not only improving our living standards but also being environmentally friendly. Saving electricity whenever possible, going car-free, planting trees, going paperless, and using reusable cups and bags, are some of the things that can be easily practised. These are very small actions but promise big results in the long run. It would enable us to secure a green and prosperous version of the Earth we envision for our future generations.
This year’s theme
This year’s theme is “Invest in our Planet”, thereby working together and taking action on the environmental issues that we are facing. The idea is to bring a change; to protect our Earth, our livelihoods, our families, and our health; to lead us all into a green and prosperous future.
We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet
We are aware of all things wrong with our planet, now it’s high time for us to adopt practices that correct those wrongs. Instead of making promises, let us start working towards our aim. We need to bring the desired changes if we want to improve the existing conditions of our environment. Switching to e-receipts is one such solution. Not only it is good for the planet-saving trees and water and reducing carbon dioxide emissions, but it also makes our life way easier. Let’s not just keep one day a year to support our planet, but rather work for it every day.

Manage Digital Receipt

Paper industry directly affects the water resources and carbon dioxide emissions. According to a report by aiche.org, paper receipts waste one billion gallons of water.
Not only are there environmental hazards but health hazards too because of the presence of bisphenol A in the thermal coating of the receipts.
These problems and more collectively constitute the drawbacks of paper receipts. For a better solution, switch to digital receipts that help you make a contribution to making this world a better place.

Digital Receipt Management

According to a report by UN Environment Programme (UNEP), “Since 1979 around 50 per cent of summer sea ice coverage has been lost.”
UNEP has proposed what it calls a Six-Sector Solution to the climate crisis. It focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in a half-dozen industries: energy, industry, agriculture and food, forests and land use, transport, buildings and cities.
The soaring extremes of temperature prove the dangers of the ongoing climate crisis. The power to bring a change lies in our hands. Switching to more sustainable means of everyday living can prove to be fruitful and help us do our bit to save the environment.
Let's cut down our emissions by switching to paperless receipts.

Marching together towards sustainability
Why are paper receipts harmful?

“Paper Receipts”, is something we don’t really give any second thoughts to, however at the same time, it is one of those things we as users interact with daily.
Despite all the efforts and resources put in handling the receipts, most receipts go straight to garbage bins. It is not hard to spot people crumpling or throwing away their receipts upon receiving them.
Every year, billions of paper receipts are wasted in the United Kingdom alone. These receipts are NOT recyclable, because they are produced on thermal paper, coated with bisphenol A (BPA).
In the United Kingdom alone it is estimated that restaurants print 811,000,000 bills and card receipts each year. That’s 10.3 pieces of thermal paper for every man, woman, and child. (Just from restaurants).
In order to produce these receipts, millions of gallons of water, millions of trees, and millions of gallons of oil are required.
What are digital receipts?
Online or digital receipts are not just an option anymore. This is becoming more popular especially today that we are more focused on environmental issues and how we can help to save our Mother Earth. Paperless campaigns are being practised which prove to be more beneficial not just in nature but also in saving cost, time, and effort to any kind of business.
From 2001 to 2019, a total of 386 million hectares of forest were lost globally (in all forest types combined). This loss represents an almost 10 % decrease in tree cover since 2000. – www.theworldcounts.com
Receipts are by far the most generated piece of paper with quite a lot of personal details on them, yet by far the most ignored one also. If you are wondering if they are so ignored then why do even have it? Well, it is because Receipts are really important, and not in just the way to claim any refund or exchange, but also to keep track of your expenses and maintain a log of your activities.
The solution is digital receipts. With digital receipts, you don’t have to worry about their safekeeping anymore. A digital receipt, or e-receipt, is a proof of purchase issued through email or text. Retailers are starting to use digital receipts because of their business benefits and some customers prefer them over traditional paper receipts.
