So my sister wants to start sewing more, because

a. She’s 5′ 11″ and can never find pants long enough for her legs or shirts long enough for her arms.

b. She hates synthetic fibers as much as I do and it’s difficult to find natural fiber clothes that aren’t made of cotton

c. She’s a biologist and would physically fistfight microplastics if given half a chance

So her gift from mom and dad for her birthday was a sewing machine. Not a super expensive one but a good solid serviceable one.

And recently she asked “So where do I GET wool or linen and thread that isn’t polyester” and mom was like ‘go ask your sister’

And I, of course, crashed into the group text like “GET A PEN I HAVE WEBSITES FOR U” and honestly I’m thrilled about this

Microsoft Office, like many companies in recent months, has slyly turned on an “opt-out” feature that scrapes your Word and Excel documents to train its internal AI systems. This setting is turned on by default, and you have to manually uncheck a box in order to opt out.

If you are a writer who uses MS Word to write any proprietary content (blog posts, novels, or any work you intend to protect with copyright and/or sell), you’re going to want to turn this feature off immediately.How to Turn off Word’s AI Access To Your Content

I won’t beat around the bush. Microsoft Office doesn’t make it easy to opt out of this new AI privacy agreement, as the feature is hidden through a series of popup menus in your settings:On a Windows computer, follow these steps to turn off “Connected Experiences”:

i cannot express how excited I am to hose this boy off in the backyard it's FINALLY TIME--

we planted a tree over 20 years ago and it was literally a stick. each year it got a little taller and eventually you could no longer 'hug' it by wrapping your hand around the trunk. You needed two hands. every year it got a little taller, so i could see the top of it from the east-facing window across the roof. every summer morning, the sun would blaze in through that window over the top of the tree, starting at about 5 in the morning.

'someday maybe it'll be tall enough to block the heat of the morning sun'. I said this 7 years ago. 6 years ago the sun would crest the treetop at 5:30. 5 years ago the window was in shade until 6:30.

Last summer the window was in full shade until about 11:00am. The tree still isn't in leaf so currently, the sun shines right through it. But this summer, when that maple is in full leaf? I expect that whole room won't be as hot as it normally gets.

you'd never say that the tree when we planted it was growing bad or being bad at shading the house. it was still growing. so stop beating yourself up about your 'bad writing' and be patient and learn to find joy in each stage. and if you think you need it, get some support like you would for a sapling.

12. you don't ever have to say your writing is bad. you can feel proud of it no matter what stage of learning you are at, even if you never intend to 'improve' your writing. you are allowed to take pride in it. you will Never stop learning and changing, so if you're waiting for some sign that you're 'good enough' as a writer...this is it.

Every day is an opportunity to be a better writer than you were yesterday if you put in a little work

The love for your works must start with you. Be your own biggest fan

You're allowed to write at your pace.

its okay to embrace some "imperfections" in your writing. Imperfection is part of art because it makes you unique.

It's okay to let go of the writer you were yesterday. Change is normal and it's okay. You're still awesome and your new work will still have an audience. It's okay to look fondly upon a past you perceive as your "glory days" but don't let that make you insecure. Your heart of a writer and your creative talent remain true. Embrace the writer you've become and confidently run with it

Any story you come up with, and your writing style are both special and precious because it's your art

its okay to crave validation and compliments for your fanfic-writing. You poured your blood, sweat and tears into it like any other artist.

No matter how you feel about your writing, it is special because no one can do it like you.

It's okay to be satisfied with just being a fanfic writer. Having amazing writing talent doesn't mean you must force yourself to write original works or to be published.
