ranni knowingly sacrificed herself and everyone she loved to eliminate the existential threat of having gods in your backyard. ranni will yeet herself thru space and never think again before she can hurt another person in her charge after this.
the story is so fundamentally about self sacrifice and how eager and willing people are to sacrifice themselves for something greater, even for nothing. in resisting this system of sacrifice we have to sacrifice ourselves.
this paired with the horror of being the leader requiring your charges be sacrificed and what that does to a person.
