this is so true bc I am POSITIVE that Steve's parents picked out that garish plaid on plaid on MORE FUCKING PLAID combo, and Steve just thought it was fine. like, maybe a little annoying on the eyes, but 100% normal and totally fine. but Eddie doesn't even step one foot into his room and he just stands there in the doorway, almost breaking his neck with how fast he's looking between Steve and the walls.

"Steve. Stephen James Harrington." He begins, completely bullshitting here because he doesn't even know if Steve even has a middle name, or if his full name is Stephen. "Please tell me this is the guest room where your parents put their least favorite guests. Please."

Steve scrunches up his face, partially because he can't tell if Eddie's being serious or not, and partially because he's offended that Eddie would think his middle name is James, which it most certainly isn't. "No? This is my room, man."

Steve gestures behind him to the only part of the room with any semblance of his personality, a small collection of photographs and memorabilia on the bedside table. "See?" He says, as if it was obvious.

Eddie takes a cautious step inside, as if the wallpaper would swallow him up if he made one false move. "I dunno, I guess I was expecting something less..." He chews his lip, unable to find the right word. "...gaudy?"

The younger man's eyes scan across the room, as if he hadn't really noticed it before Eddie mentioned it. "I mean, I guess it's a bit of an eyesore? It doesn't really bother me, though." He says with an offhanded shrug. "I cover it with posters, so that's not bad."

"A bit of an eyesore???" Eddie scoffs, burying his face in his hands. "Steve, if I didn't know you so well, I would assume that your closet is full of plaid too, seeing this abomination."

Steve snickers, tilting his head as if conceding his side of the argument. "Well, don't blame me then, blame my parents. I didn't have any input when my parents decorated my room back in '73."

"In '73?! You've been living like this for over a decade?? How have you not gone insane in this gingham madhouse?" Eddie exclaims, his eyes bugging out of his head at the confession.

This argument goes on for quite some time, and eventually both Eddie and Steve come to the conclusion that a) Steve needs his eyes checked, b) Steve's parents suck, and c) they are definitely giving his room a makeover soon.

I’ve seen this done before but I just had to contribute since I know Eddie would have some words for that room.

Can you imagine just how Not Prepared™️ Steve would be over just how much Eddie VISIBLY loves him. How LOUD he is over it?

Always touching both gentle and otherwise but never with anything but love, affection in spades, the pet names, the endless kisses and snuggles, Eddie's blatant disbelief that he could land someone SO beautiful, and how often he reminds Steve of that. He tells him with each kiss to his cheeks, or when he squishes those same cheeks within his warm calloused palms and kisses the tip of Steve's nose, always just reminds him that he's beautiful. That he's the most beautiful person Eddie has ever seen.

Steve's so used to people liking him quietly. Love towards him has never been loud. It's never been impossible to miss. Even Robins' "platonic soul mate" love is quiet, shown through affectionate teasing and a dependence on each other that outsiders might call unhealthy. It's never loud, though.

And then in comes Eddie. Loud, unashamed, proud of himself for scoring such a CATCH, so LOUDLY in love and Steve is mush over it, just dopey over it. He doesn't know how to deal, but he's willing to learn if Eddie will just Keep Doing That™️.
