Clean & Safe: Barangay Pedro Cruz Disaster Risk Reduction Management

27 December 2019-Going home from a Christmas trip with my family I have caompletely missed the environment in my home along our Barangay Pedro Cruz. Pedro Cruz is situated at approximately 14.6057, 121.0231, in the island of Luzon. Elevation at these coordinates is estimated at 11.9 meters or 39.0 feet above mean sea level. It is a in the city of San Juan. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 4,427. This represented 3.62% of the total population of San Juan. always wondered how they manage to keep our barangay safe and clean. Since our Barangay Hall and the BDRRMC (Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council) is very accessible and near to our home i took a visit and learn more about how they manage the whole barangay.

As from what i have gathered from the facilitators along the BDRRMC office, in terms of cleaniliness there are always garbage trucks that are available in the morning from 6Am to 8Am and in the evening from 6PM to 9PM. With street sweepers along the roads and monthly community operation of street cleanings which some people may participate as well. This has been going since 2012. No wonder how clean and orderly our streets are. In terms of safety the BDRRMC managed to conduct tutorials and seminars that will guide the citizens especially seniors in times of health or disasterous situations. The BDRRMC also takes part in drills and public demonstartions which are situationals that will let children and all citizens of all ages to learn from the drills. In case of disaster ive been told that they already have a map of all senior citizens in the barangay which the BDRRMC will rescue first. And the best part is that in case of disaster the covered court is very accessible to all citizens for evacuation. In case of an earthquake the covered court will protect the evacuees from falling debris, in case of flood the court is elevated and prevent from water to enter, and the court is along side the Barangay Pedro Cruz Barangay Hall wherein after evacuation injured citizend can be treated by the BDRRMC. The barangay that i live in also feels very safe and i feel protected because of the CCTV cameras mounted along the streets of the barangay even in narrow ways. Barangay tanods are cery strict in terms of cleanliness and safety. I usually see them helping cleaners from carrying koads of trash and sweeping the streets.

I am very satisfied from what plans and how our Barangay officials manages the cleanliness and safety along the barangay. The citizens in our area has the sense of responsibility and hospitality among our fellow citizens. We feel very safe because of the BDRRMC management and of the xleanliness of our Barangay because afterall San Juan City is well known for the Tapat ko Linis Ko campaign throughout the years.
