It's easy to think "nobody in the whole wide world cares about me" on an empty stomach but try doing it while eating Vegetables and Rice. Seems less convincing now doesn't it? That's simply the power of Vegetables and Rice..

watching mouthwashing in chronological order really shows you how fucked everyone in the tulpar is just from the mere presence of jimmy
7 days before the crash you can tell how much this man just craves control. if being co-captain of the ship isn’t enough, it’s really evident he wants to be in curly’s position with how critical he is about everything going on in the ship, even towards curly, who sees him as an equal and would go foot and nail to excuse his shitty behavior simply because he’s his friend.
hell he’d go as far as to intentionally crash the ship because people like him thrive in the only environment where they know they have control!!
i think being co-captain really gave jimmy a sort of purpose in life (even if he lowkey hates it) because it’s better than the life he had on earth
so jimmy never wanting to leave the tulpar (and successfully doing so) was him selfishly wanting to keep everything as it is because to him, it’s the only way he can remotely control the decisions he makes in the ship which he ultimately does not take responsibility for
(and also this man is just delusional as fuck bc it makes me think how funny it is that he thought killing himself and saving curly was the ultimate act of heroism when in actuality he never took responsibility for anything and just took the easy way out lol)
(also him hearing curly say “I can fix this” once and then taking that to heart during events after the crash just proves how much this guy idolizes curly to the point of jealousy and sabotaging the lives of everyone else to fuel his very misguided delusions LOL)

Imagine if there was another member on the crew aboard the Tulpar and meeting Daisuke. He’s a sweet, charismatic, and silly dude and y’all connect almost instantly. Inside jokes, teaming up on game nights, sharing hoarded sweeteners (although it’s very tough on your soul). However when you were first introduced you kept calling him Daisuki; and he never had the heart to tell you it’s wrong. Just a slight mispronunciation that sounds close enough right? The rest of the crew side eye him as if to say “that’s not right?” And he desperately side eyes all of them “PLEASE STAY QUIET” Anya thinks it’s kinda cute and keeps her mouth shut but there’s something in her expression that doesn’t quite look right. Curly taunts him Relentlessly. Swansea right behind him, saying that the kids these days are so ridiculous and so avoidant and just messes with Daisuke just after you walk by. Jimmy just raises an eyebrow but doesn’t seem to care too much about it… he asks every once in a while how the two of you are handling being on the ship and you answer so freely “everything’s going great! Daisuki and I really appreciate you guys being so understanding with us newbies :)” and Jimmy just nods and looks at Daisuke and replies “glad to hear it. Later Daisuki” and walks off leaving Daisuke a little embarrassed and blushy
#imagine daisuke catching feelings and him never correcting (non-japanese speaking) reader because he enjoys reader telling him ‘i love#you’#in his native language#like its JUST for him#this is so cute

A thing I like about Mouthwashing is that the game never "shows" Anya's SA, either directly or through some artistic metaphor, even if the game is full of shocking moments and disturbing imagery.
Not only does it avoid the cliche of using abuse on women as shock value but it also adds narratively to the story.
Most cases of rape end up being chalked up as "he said, she said" and even if people believed the victim many undermine how awful it actually was, because they just weren't there to see it.
When we see the game from Curly's POV that's exactly what happens, there's a part of him that doesn't believe all that has happened, because he didn't see his friend abuse a woman. The dead pixel is a good metaphor, the way he sees the screen has completely changed, but he can't find that dead pixel, same way he can't find the fault on Jimmy. That's why his first instinct was to ask who's the father.
You can't really say "Oh my god, how is Curly so dense? We all say what Jimmy did!" When none of us has seen anything either.
It also shows how much of a piece of shit Jimmy is, because not one moment of his misery sequences are dedicated to even acknowledging Anya's existence, showing that he doesn't even care that he hurt her, he only felt guilty because there was physical proof of his crimes and was found out as a result.
