Eulimnadia astraova clam shrimp and eggs. The species name literally means "star egg". So far they are known only from scattered parts of Louisiana and Florida in USA.

Grenfell hooked mats, 1920s-40s (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9)
The quiet months of February and March were known as the “matting season” along the rugged coast of northern Newfoundland and Labrador. It was a time of respite from the fishing season. Generations old by the time the Grenfell Mission began, the roots of mat hooking lay with the founding English and Scottish settlers. The women all hooked, most from their earliest childhood. […]
In 1928, the Industrial Supervisor M.A. Pressley-Smith sent out a plea through the mission’s quarterly publication, Among the Deep Sea Fishers, “Save Your Old Silk Stockings! When your stockings run let them run to Labrador! We need silk stockings and underwear in Unlimited Quantities! Please send your silk stockings and underwear no matter how old or worn! We need such silk and artificial silk for the making of hooked rugs of a beautiful type!” Silk stockings when dyed to beautiful soft hues, helped propel the mat industry into its peak production years of 1926 to the early 1930s.

Hey, because it's a product my boss is considering at work:
Zoom Workplace has a paid feature that will allow it to record your screen any time you are on a call even if you don't have any other monitoring software installed on your computer.
So if you use Zoom for work, don't open non-work shit in other windows when you're on a call.
This is an additional feature in Zoom Workplace, so you don't need to worry about it in non-workplace installs.

Mozilla, in its finite wisdom, embedded LLM bots into recent versions of Firefox for the vitally-important purpose of… naming tab groups. Now, some users are noticing CPU and power usage spikes caused by a background process called Inference.
Ugh. Reminder again for Firefox users to visit your about:config page, search for the browser.ml.chat.enabled key, and set that to false:
Tumblr media
If yours says true then double-click it until it reads false.
Doing that turns off the AI chatbot features in Firefox, but also the stupid new LLM tab-naming feature that's rolling out.

Welp. Google's AI horseshit has arrived. And I'm not complying. They can pry my ID out of my cold dead hands. I will simply go elsewhere. Remember folks, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR IDs. Do not comply. Resist, fight it, use other browsers or sources beyond youtube and google controlled services. Call them. Email them. Make noise. Fight back.

I'm looking at this and crying because imagine being able to walk up to a Medieval sewist, telling them you're sewing a quilt with scenes from your favorite story, and they just nod and say they did the same.
