Band Of Brothers vs. The Pacific - Endings
Band of Brothers is all about brotherhood and how these men joined and formed a uniquely close knit group, those friendships helping them getting through the worst of war and with the same purpose, making it a point to contradict their motto “Currahee” meaning “stand alone.” In fact the motto is more apt to the characters of The Pacific, which shows a much more cynical side of WWII seldom explored in movies and television. There’s a sense of isolation that isn’t in Band of Brothers that can be found in The Pacific with the characters scattering at the end of the war, and with Band of Brothers ending with a wide shot of the company when The Pacific ends with a wide shot of Eugene Sledge alone.

A few thoughts on Avatar: The Way of Water
- James Cameron reasserts his mastery of the event movie. Like, no one else is even trying to make spectacle at his level. Watching it in 3D IMAX at Udvar-Hazy was an ideal environment and I wish everyone could see it there.
- Ryan Coogler’s a great director, but the underwater scenes here vs. Wakanda Forever show what a difference it makes when crews get the time they need to do their work properly
- It was, uh, not surprising that there were four credited editors
- Jemaine Clement should've had a way bigger part
- There’s some intriguing tension between movie’s stance on mortality (basically, it ties the humans’ moral corruption to their denial of death) and Cameron’s use of de-aging and other digital technology. I hope the future sequels dig more into those themes.
- Gritting my teeth for the inevitable, probably necessary cultural appropriation discourse
- Though the characters individually aren’t very interesting, I got invested in the survival of the family unit and these cultures, and the "From darkness to light” sequence is the most moving blockbuster climax in a while
- These movies are so weird! The thought of a film with an extended sequence explaining the mechanics of whale-hunting making a billion dollars tickles me. Moby Dick strikes again!

*taps mic* Is this thing on? Twitter really feels like it’s on the verge of collapsing forever, and it’s bumming me out way more than I anticipated, but might as well see what’s going on here. I have missed the gifsets.
