What do you think of the start of Gash Bell 2? Kiyo is so grown up I love it
i think we don't know enough so far for me to have a strong feeling about the direction of the story yet but! i did write some long ramblings here summing up my feelings about kiyo
https://www.twitlonger.com/show/n_1srvuo0
even with this wall of text, i still don't feel like that conveys all of my thoughts. he just means that much to me, but to try!
the single biggest appeal of the series to me is how kiyo (and zatch too but tbh mostly kiyo) strives to better himself. to him, saving the world (or two) is just something he does, without even having to think about it. but becoming a better person, striving towards this concept of "adulthood"? that's what he genuinely believes is the hard part
the best way i can describe it is that my love for the series would not quite be what it is, if not for kasabuta. (my go-to translation for it here) it is very, very intertwined to what i believe the whole series is about.
and one of his character songs kokoro no chikara... every line of it makes me want to sob but right now, in particular, "if you will believe in me, i will answer to that". i feel like it gains a new meaning now. like he's saying that absolutely no matter what, no matter how many years pass, if needed, he will show up again without further question. and to bring up kasabuta again, well, the entire song is about this idea of "we're unreliable." so for him to grow up to be the single most reliable person out of two whole worlds, the hero that can overcome any crisis!!
so for him to 1. well, literally become an adult and 2. have this legacy where even people that have never met him see him as this ray of hope that's able to turn any situation into hope no matter how desperate it is!!
that just means everything to me. he's my number one favorite character ever for a reason :')
also i just want to say that i've always thought this panel was funny but the hindsight of the mere existence of a sequel makes this fucking hilarious
#hmmm you know what it's been too many years probably since i last put my bs in the tags#zatch bell#here you go idk there's probably more people that want to see My Thoughts(™) so here you go!!

If there ever is a Zatch Bell reboot, would you want them to include the anime original characters/arcs? Personally I'd love too see Cut n Paste get more character development and maybe be intergated into the main cast.
oh yes absolutely

Do you consider the movies canon?
the first one, no, since it outright contradicts zatch’s backstory. he didn’t grow up with a nice and caring mother, though you can’t blame it that much for that since it was made before the manga got to that point. however, zatch also says that he wants to become king to his mother, which also doesn’t even make sense because when he got to the human world, he just stayed in the forest and didn’t even try to find his book owner (this being before he lost his memories)
there’s also a lot of other dumb things about the movie, like i don’t really buy everything about the white book. barudo forusu, while cute for the climax... the whole idea of this “movie-exclusive spell” where they also just somehow combine 4 books together also just doesn’t make much sense. and the idea how easy it is to go between the human and mamodo world.
there are some aspects of it that i would maybe like to consider canon though, like the process to how they choose who competes in the battle, the worldbuilding of the mamodo world, the “mamodo and humans that are partners have two halves of the same heart” bit, etc
as for the second movie, yes. it doesn’t really affect anything if you consider it canon or not, but i love the second movie so, so much that i personally do lol. it doesn’t make much sense why dr. m2 traveled back to the past to get kiyo when that would mean that zatch is in the way when he could’ve traveled to a time after canon takes place, but whatever.
ponygon does know dioemuru shudoruk at this point, so it would have to be after the battle agains sauza and karudio, but you could reasonably say it takes place sometime during the faudo arc before they actually go to faudo without it contradicting anything in canon

What would Kiyo do if he found the Deathnote instead of the red spell book?
i haven’t read or watched death note but
even in this hypothetical scenario where kiyo never meets zatch (the source of sunshine in his life), kiyo would NEVER want to hurt anyone, let alone have someone die. that goes completely against his character.
look at the flashback in chapter 2. kiyo sees someone bullied, and all he feels is awful because he wants to do something about it but he’s too terrified to take action. even at the lowest point of his life, he’s still someone that wants to protect others.
heck, even look at his actions in the first chapter. he yells at suzy, but it’s because of how being around him so much is going to make everyone else associate her with him. and everyone hates him, so he tries to get her to leave him alone so that she doesn’t get brought down with him as well. it’s his way of looking out for her.
and also the way he treats zatch in chapter 1. he lies to him, tells him there’s a bully on the roof to get him to leave him alone. then, when he overhears that maybe there is an actual bully on the roof, he panics, and changes his mind and heads for the roof himself. despite how he’s been trying to get zatch out of his sight all day, he genuinely cares and doesn’t want to see him get hurt.
he’d never want to take out how he feels on others. if anything, he directs it towards himself and would rather hurt himself through isolation than harm anyone else.

Zatch Bell needs a timeskip
honestly i’m fine the way it is with the epilogue only taking place a month later and the gaiden being probably a year or so after that. i’m happy with it just showing that everyone’s going to continue doing their best in the future without it showing us specifically where everyone ends up.
unless they do a full-on sequel or something, in which case they’d need a really good reason as to why everyone has to team up again so soon after the conclusion of the last battle
