Konrad in his primarch book is like this dark misguided philosopher type

Then there’s Konrad while torturing Vulkan who is such a slimy despicable little shit, literally a cartoon villain with a high pitched laugh who’s evil for the sake of it.

When you read Konrad from his own POV he’s very enjoyable and complex, occasionally childish with moments of “this guy is insane” but there’s a lot of tragedy and potential etc etc

but when you read Konrad from other’s POV who aren’t night lords he’s literally just the worst, just a pure smug slimy nuisance, literally just exists to cause problems, suffering and stop good things from happening. He’s just there to bother people and trip ppl up while delivering fake-deep smug nonsense that is stupid and meaningless like the Joker from Dark Knight. He’s not intelligent, deep or smart at all, just crazy, evil or both.

You read a lot of night lord books and his primarch book and you start thinking “oh hey, he’s not even that insane, actually I can see his inner workings and understand him, it all just came together wrong and he went thru a lot but all in all -“ then you read a scene with him from another primarch’s POV and you’re like “oh - he’s actually just a gross hateful evil piece of shit. Ah, and I was starting to empathize with him, dang”

I actually want to yell at the page for him to leave the other characters alone, stop and go home because what even are we doing here

Depending on what book I read I either think “wait I was too harsh on him, I kinda feel bad now, I’ve been too simplistic” or “dang I think I polished his image too much and lost the plot because fuck this guy”

I wonder if this is a play on how Konrad sees himself / thinks he is like in his head vs how he actually ends up being. He has a certain plot happening in his head and then there’s the reality that actually happens when he interacts with others.

Disclaimer: before you say it, I know I KNOW it’s probably because of writing inconsistencies but LET ME BE DEEP AND INTELLECTUAL OK LET ME ENJOY THINGS - I don’t like defaulting to “well it’s just inconsistency” at inconsistencies, I think that’s anti-intellectual and thought terminating, actually for me it’s enjoyable / preferred to find a canon explanation because otherwise it’s not fun and breaks immersion 😤😒 no need to always be so damn hyperrealistic, let me make the story make sense to me
