Beautifully put. All of these -- especially #6 and #10 -- really speak to me. HOW DO YOU ACTUALLY SET UP AND SPOOL OUT A ENEMIES-TO-LOVERS, I howl at my laptop. You people are brilliant geniuses.
What I've Learned Writing My First Long Good Omens Fic
(and 2nd fic ever)
Writing is fattening. I've gained 5 pounds just from the increased sitting.
Beta readers are amazing! They give their free time to read early drafts and make them infinitely better.
And yet, as brilliant and helpful as a beta's comments are, it feels like a punch in the gut to see a page full of red marks.
It's far too easy to believe a beta has to take a break from reading because they can't stomach one more word of your awful writing instead of because they have, y'know, a life (school, work, kids, friends, hobbies, pets, community etc.)
Who are those brave writers who don't rely on betas at all? They're the equivalent of free climbers on el Capitan.
I love reading fics even more now that I know how difficult it is to write one.
Writers who post as they go without completing their fic first are fearless! And crazy! And fearless!
What's even crazier is that some of those write-as-they-go writers pull out the most amazing turns of phrase or emotional depths.
And what about writers working in their second (or third) language? They're so impressive.
Writing is lonely. I've become even more committed to leaving comments on WIPs understanding better how it might feel to spend months (or years) writing something while getting little feedback.
It's a fine line between feeling inspired by another writer and intimidated by their craft.
The hours I've enjoyed reading fics is the result of many more times the hours someone spent writing them. And finally, I've learned so much and gained fascinating insights reading fan fics. I hope my writing offers something special as well. Yep, I love a lovely spot of fluff. But even the fluffiest writing offers clever perceptions of people and the world. I'm grateful for the amazing writers, readers, and artists who make up the Good Omens fandom.

New fic recs - social media & being in the closet
Updating my fic recs, which are organized by trope:
Social Media
some faith (the slow show (fandom remix) by attheborder (@areyougonnabe), curtaincall (@fremulon) (Rated Teen and up, 7K, Finished)
Let's get meta. This takes you into the fandom for Warlock, the fictional show starring the actors Anthony Crowley and Avery Fell in @mia_ugly’s Slow Show (one of my Being in the closet recs). It’s got Tumblr, Twitter, Buzzfeed, press releases, memes… It’s off the wall. Personally, I do not partake in real people fic, not my cuppa, but it was a trip to get sucked into a energy of RPF fandom for the real-in-this-fictional-universe characters. It's really funny and clever.
Being in the closet
Love in the Garden by TawnyOwl95 (@tawnyontumblr) (Rated Explicit, 44K, Finished)
AIDS Crisis human AU. It’s an 80's period piece, transporting us to the early days of HIV/AIDS when so much was uncertain about the virus, how it was transmitted, and its implications for queer life. Knowing what’s going to happen, as a reader in 2025, generates a lot of almost excruciating dramatic irony. I really appreciated all the research, book recs, and end notes that made this feel real. Most of the cast is joyfully out, but Aziraphale is partially in the closet. We see the tragedy of that as well as how beautifully liberating it is when he can emerge. You are reassured from the start that it’s got a happy ending but it’s nonetheless a very sobering story that felt reverent to read.
Wrecked by @snae_b (Rated Explicit, 14K, Chapters 5/16 up with a regular posting schedule every Monday).
Redneck Crowley human AU. I got sucked into this WIP early because I love how real the setting feels: this IS the rural American South in the early 90’s. This generates a lot of angst for Crowley, who’s notoriously queer and weathering a lot of homophobia in rhis small town. It’s Aziraphale who’s “so deep in the closet he might as well be in Narnia” but can’t stay away from Crowley as they compete in the local demolition derby. This one makes me feel things. Aziraphale sees the social death Crowley experiences, and what a complicated, painful choice it is to be himself OR repress it so he can maintain his social standing in his conservative Christian community. It's great I'm wrecked.

Slow Show comic! Oh my God. What a lovely comic for a lovely story. <3 <3
Edited to add: there are three more beautiful Slow Show comics by @smolghostings - tag you're it.

This is my tribute to the Slow Show fandom (yes it's a fandom now, you guys are fantastic) for the fic Slow Show by the incredibly talented @mia-ugly. This fic made me tear up multiple times, and i remember that i had to physically stop myself for squealing om the train when reading this scene, which is always a good way to know i need to draw a short comic for it. SO GO READ SLOW SHOW NOW TO CATCH ALL THE BEST FEELINGS
Will be posting this later to my insta, so go there for more of my gay nonsense :)

I’d never noticed Aziraphale’s hand coming to Crowley back in the Final 15. That kind of kills me. GIF sets always make me appreciate details I missed. 💔❤️🩹

Something about the sketches makes this even more heartbreaking — the ephemeral rendering echoing the quality of the moment
The fabulous @actual-changeling wrote the fic moonlight on your lips (i'll be gone by dawn) and answered the question: wtf happened 1941 between the ineffable idiots, that likely prompted Az famous "you go too fast for me?". The fic is great, everyone should read it!!!
As it happens I have a comic WIP with a very similar plot, which is lurking in my drafts for a while now. I don't know if I will ever finish the comic, so I decided to post the raw WIP instead (long post).

To read the Bible as God’s word one must read it with His heart in His mouth, on tip-toe, with eager expectancy, in conversation with God. To read the Bible thoughtlessly or carelessly or academically or professionally is not to read the Bible as God’s Word. As one reads it as a love letter is read, then one reads it as the Word of God. — Soren Kierkegaard

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it while damn well knowing something very, very weird is happening. Hebrews 13:2 (probably)

Every time I see a Good Omens fic with an "OC", I briefly think I'm going to get an OC crossover and an appearance from my sweet sweet Ryan Atwood.
no one can break the bond between a girl and a show from the 2000s that have 40 minute episodes and 20 episode seasons

I’m totally not psychotic about @snae-b’s angry wounded slutty 90’s redneck demolition derby Crowley.
Nope. Totally normal. Totally chill. Just gonna listen to John Michael Montgomery version of “I swear” on repeat and not be a freak about the “figuring out how to love and be loved” tag.
