Costume Details;

The whole thing turns invisible along with Tooru

The controls on her wrist (the bracelet) let her determine which, if any, parts of her costume are visible at any given time.

Plates of armor on her torso, forearms, and shins for protection; covered with fabric to dampen the noise of any impacts

Gloves and boots have grips which allow her to climb flat surfaces.

Her ribbon/sash is actually a capture weapon!

Mask is electronic and displays expressions while allowing Tooru to still see the outside world.

Mask also has built in night vision and heat vision. Covers front and back of her head for protection.

Satchel carries emergency supplies for rescues and also weapons.

Skirt is made off stiff material to avoid noise, is reflective to assist in creating large flashes of light.

Hair color:

There’s some hidden symbolism in Tooru’s hair color. The black with blue sheen is modeled after Raven Feathers. I went with this because Ravens symbolize loss but also insight and guidance; believed to be psychopomps that guide lost souls to the after life.

Tooru herself has suffered a great loss, her family and memories. And her own personal journey is about trying to find them and achieving eventual acceptance and peace.

I actually do have a headcanon/concept for what happened to Tooru’s family but I kinda wanna leave it ambiguous because accepting that she’s just never gonna Know and that it doesn’t matter where she came from is a huge part of her character arc and I don’t want to undermine that by being like “yeah so here’s what happened”

fklsdjfalk okay what if the way tooru finds out she can make things invisible is cause like randomly one day someone is like "if you're invisible why can't we see the food you're eating" and she's just suddenly hit with the realization she can make things invisible too I just find that so funny sorry

It actually does happen something like that!

Tooru’s quirk is originally ‘invisibility’ because she doesn’t know why she’s invisible, she just is. 

However, during the villain attack at the Training Camp (shortly before losing consciousness) Tooru is able to emit a flash of light due to her panic, which leads her to discover her quirk is actually ‘light refraction’. After that, she starts purposely bending light through her cells to create more sustained flashes of light, which eventually becomes her first super move.

The discovery that she can (likely) refract light on objects other than herself does in fact come from a discussion with her classmates. Although it is, in fact, different from how she eats. Because, for example, if she was to put something (for example a lolipop) in her mouth and then take it back out, it would then be visible again despite being covered in her saliva. This is why simply wearing clothes isn’t enough to turn them invisible.

it takes a lot of time before Tooru can successfully use her quirk on objects and other people. As a pro she can do so easily, but it’s more practical for her to have specially made support items than to expend the energy to turn a weapon invisible.

Hey, Toru, I just had a crazy idea. If you could somehow utilize your quirk to make other things invisible, that'd exponentially increase your potential. All I'm saying is, invisible girl with an invisible gun.

Do they like to cook?

Tooru, being one of the older kids at the Hagakure house, was often tasked to help out with various household tasks including cleaning, yard work, helping the other kids get dressed and bathed, and cooking. Out of all her chores, Tooru enjoys cooking the most and even finds it relaxing.

She especially likes doing little things like apple bunnies or octopus wieners or onigiri shaped like cats that really impress the other occupants of Hagakure house. More often than not, she ends up making her own lunch, but with supervision of the staff to make sure she doesn’t just pack a bunch of junk with no nutritional value.

Tooru also enjoys baking, but isn’t very good at it due to her tendency to lose focus.
