Huffing a laugh, Prompto moved a hand to run through the other’s hair as he kept him close. “I guess I did.” He had hardly realized it himself. Besides, it really was him. Sora wasn’t at fault for how Prompto was handling things.
Tumblr media
There were plenty of times when he thought on it, thought of how ridiculous he behaved to small actions sometimes. It was simply difficult to keep what they were meant to be all the time. After all, Prompto was used to relationships and falling head over heels in the blink of an eye. It wasn’t in his nature to keep someone an arm’s length away.
{♔}  — Sora gave a shaky laugh. He was no closer to knowing what was                 happening between them but he could at least be comfortable in                 knowing it wasn’t his actions causing the problem. He’d stop if                 Prompto asked but that was the thing—he never asked. He either                 acted as if affectionate touches were normal or jumped as if                 electrocuted. Sora could never predict which reaction he’d receive;                 that seemed to be down to something going on in Prompto’s head.
                He pulled back slightly, far enough to look up at the blonde. ❝You’re                 an idiot, you know that?You just—you gotta stop overthinking things.                 Stop living in your head.❞
Tumblr media
                Sora couldn’t help the issue if he didn’t know what it was.He couldn’t                 avoid setting Prompto off if Prompto didn’t tell him.

@thalassacrown
Sora gets in trouble a fair amount for being distracted inmeetings and lessons. He says he’s got a lot on his mind, what with thearranged marriage and all, but he’s mostly daydreaming. His most recurrentfantasy is a simple one: he and Kairi share a small house by the shore, neitherare royals but both are happy and content with life.
He was enamoured immediately and assumed, from firstimpressions and her royal status, that she would be kind and mild-mannered. Hewas very pleased to be proved wrong. He adores her boldness and sense ofhumour. He would reread her letters over and over again and never bore of herwitty comments and snide remarks mingled with sweet sentiments that left himblushing but laughing.
He has a dozen or so letters stored safely in his desk,written and addressed but never sent. He wrote them after the announcement,after Kairi found out what he’d been keeping from her, but couldn’t find it inhimself to send most of them. He wrote pages and pages, enough to fill a smallnovel—poured his heart out on the parchment and apologised over and over again.He only sent one. It was the longest he’d ever sent; Kairi could fill a fewpages easily but Sora’s were usually one or two at most. He was better at talking thanwriting and his dyslexia often made things difficult. The letter was the fifthdraft and explained what had happened, his reasons for not telling her, andthat he still loved her but fully understood if she preferred not to see himagain.
He borrowed a scarf when visiting her Kingdom—no one hadwarned him it was going to be so cold!—and accidentally packed it. He stillhas it but has no idea how or when he should return it. (He doesn’t really wantto. It still has her lingering, floral scent.)

@theotherpuppet
Sora’s initial attachment to him stemmed from him beingterrified that he’d stumbled across a corpse. He’d been immensely relieved tofind he was alive and accepting of medical treatment.
The Prince is probably too trusting but honestly, this boyhasn’t attacked or threatened him. He’s shown that he can be dangerous but itwas in the context of saving Sora’s life—an act that gains Sora’s unwavering loyaltyand trust.
Sora loves making him smile and laugh. He looks lost andunhappy far too often for Sora’s liking; he’ll go out of his way to make a dumbjoke to draw laughter from Riku.
Sora’s incredibly curious by nature but actively tries notto pry into the other’s past. Sora’s aware that he has no idea where thisperson is from or even what his name is. It irritates him sometimes but that’sonly because he’s nosy and likes knowing people’s stories. (He’s great atremembering names and faces, and even random facts about people. He’ll pass aservant in the hallway and remember that her niece came to stay for the summerlast year.)

(Blind AU) As they spend a lot of time together, Sora takesit upon himself to guide Riku around when he’s without his cane. This is mostlyto help Riku but partly because Sora wants an excuse to hold his hand.
(Guard AU) Sora had expected his new Guard to be some old,war-withered ex-soldier and was pleasantly surprised when he met Riku. Theywere paired so it would be easier for Riku to blend in when out in public withSora. He was exceptionally professional and formal towards the Prince, whichSora found endlessly frustrating. He wanted someone he could talk to casuallyand who wouldn’t make him uncomfortable in his own home. He specifically wentout of his way to break through Riku’s barriers and put them in more casualsettings. At his first glimpse of Riku’s humour, he was hooked.
Sora totally doesn’t go to restaurants in town on his own soRiku has to go with him. He totally doesn’t think of them as dates.
Sora once voiced his worries about ascending to the throne;could he cope with the responsibility and power? He’d had so much training andsat through so many classes yet many, including himself, doubted hiscapability. He wasn’t sure what he’d expected from Riku, who often told him offfor his lack of punctuality and ditching his responsibilities. He received themost heart-warming, motivational talk he’d ever heard in his life. He thinksback on it whenever he’s feeling low; it always cheers him up.

 Cheeks flushing in embarrassment as the tears steadily began to pour down her face and drip down onto the fine satin sewn into her gown, the princess bit down on her lip to quiet the sobs as they bubbled up within her. His comment of bravery was left unacknowledged as her shoulders silently shook.
  Kairi didn’t feel brave. She felt ragged and sore, overly warm yet her fingertips cold as ice. The tightness in her chest left her unable to breathe. If she could cry for a hundred years, a thousand years it would not be long enough to rid herself of this heartbreak.
  “I- I love you too…” It was shaky and rather incoherent, but the princess managed to choke it out loud enough for him to hear. The two had been so swept up in their own little romance. Now she felt regretful she hadn’t been able to tell him how much he’d really changed her life. How much she loved him. “I really do, Sora…”
  Instead of feeling relieved she’d be able to have a moment to pull herself back together, her heart sank even further as he threatened to leave. When would she be able to see him again? To speak to him again so privately without his mother hovering over his shoulder or his new wife to cling to him?  Possibly never again. Kairi didn’t want this to be their last encounter, didn’t want it to end this way between them.
  The elegant glass falling from her hand and shattering as it hit the ground, the redhead rushed forward to throw her arms around his waist. “Please! Don’t leave me yet!” Her words were marred as she fought to get them out through choked sobs. There was no holding back anymore, no more keeping up the appearance that she’d be fine. She wasn’t fine. Every part of her ached and had longed to embrace him this one final time. Even if he couldn’t hold her back. Even if he pushed her away. “I don’t want to lose you this way….”
{♔}  — Sora could feel his heart breaking at the sight before him. Should he                 comfort her? His instincts screamed for him to go to her, to hug her and                 whisper soothing words, but going by his luck lately he’d only make things                 worse. He hated the feeling of tiptoeing around her; this wasn’t how it was                 supposed to be. He’d been so comfortable around her not too long ago                 and now he found himself questioning his every move.
                He should leave; he was evidently only causing further hurt. He’d need to                 find someone to send for her. Who had she come with? Gosh, Sora didn’t                 even know. Her handmaiden must be around here somewhere; she’d know                 what to do. He could head back inside, find her—
                A crash startled him from his thoughts, shattering glass breaking the                 tense silence between them. He looked up to her then stumbled                 backwards.
                He righted himself with a gasp.
                ❝K-Kairi?❞ He held her immediately, arms wrapped around her in a tight                 embrace. He could feel his own heart hammering in his chest and hands                 trembling as he clutched at her. All foolish thought of leaving her flew                 from his mind. How could he leave her? How could he pass her off to                 someone else, regardless of noble intentions?
                ❝I’m not leaving you, I’m never leaving you,❞ he murmured, face buried                 in her hair. He took a shuddering breath to calm himself; it was strange                 reassuring her when he was so close to breaking himself.
                He pulled back to press kisses to her head, small, sweet actions. ❝Who                 said you’re losing me? I—that’s not happening.❞ He knew it to be a lie;                 someone would come to fetch him soon enough, only to find him wrapped                 around a woman who was decided not his fiancée. He couldn’t let that                 happen. Kairi had faced enough judgement because of him.
                ❝I love you,❞ he whispered. He repeated the sentiment over and over,                 each followed by a kiss. ❝I’m so sorry.❞

@drexm-eater continuation.
{♔}  — It wasn’t their War, wasn’t a War they’d started. The Kingdom had merely                 risen to the call for help from their allies and offered the service of their                 bravest and their best. Sora hadn’t been surprised to learn that Riku                 was included in that.
                He missed his Guard; it was hard not to. He missed the constant,                 reassuring presence that wasn’t quite replicated in the man’s substitute.                 He liked the replacement just fine but they weren’t Riku. Not that it                 mattered much anymore, of course; Riku’s division was due to return                 home today. There’d been an agreement that the soldiers could return                 in privacy and meet with their families before the Palace threw a                 celebratory meal in honour of their service.
                He could wait until then. He’d been distracting himself all day, keeping                 himself busy, trying not focus on the reunion. He couldn’t work himself up;                 it wasn’t proper for a Prince to be so hung up over the return of a Guard.
                A loud, insistent knock at his door startled Sora. He’d been curled up on                 his couch, pretending to read but really just staring blankly at the same                 page and letting the words wash over him. He scrambled to his feet,                 taking a moment to smooth out his clothing, before moving to the door.
                Mouth open to greet his visitor, Sora only ended up gaping. He stared                 at Riku—Riku, who was actually here—and then grinned.
                ❝Y-you’re back!❞ he exclaimed. He floundered for a moment before                 taking Riku’s hands in his, pulling him into the room.

She heard the other calls, but she found herself a bit nervous about replying again ( and who could blame her, really, for getting so nervous after she realized she had absolutely no idea who she’d just alerted to her presence ). Kairi quickly sat back down on the bench, picking up the flower crown she’d been working on and continuing to weave more flowers into it.
The Princess all but jumped when another person entered the clearing, holding the chain of flowers to her chest quickly in surprise. She took in the appearance of the boy who’d arrived, her eyes quickly glancing over azure eyes and chocolate hair. He seemed to be full of energy- but he was pretty informal.
Tumblr media
❛ Um, yes, that’s me. ❜
Kairi stared at him for a while in silence, twirling the flower crown around in her hands a few times before she finally spoke up again.
❛ Who are-? ❜ She paused, collecting her words quickly, determined to be polite while she was there. ❛ Who might you be? ❜
{♔}  — Dressed in casual clothes and wandering the Gardens yellinghardly                 gave away the fact he was a Prince. He personally saw no need for                 formalattire in his own home but he knew the impression he could give.                 Few would takehim seriously in times like this. Sora tended not to care                 but, well—the Princesswas his guest. He wanted to make a good                 impression.
                Perhaps it wasn’t too late for that.
                Sora took in her appearance and startled expression, eyesdrifting to                 focus on the clutched ring of flowers.He halted the question that almost                 fell from his lips; he had his own answer to give first.
                ❝PrinceSora, Your Highness,❞he replied, stooping into a low, practiced                 bow. He felt somewhat odd greetingsomeone with a title he was often                 given himself. At the very least he hoped tohave rectified his earlier                 lapses in manners with the display, although he hadto admit that                 shouting for the Princess worked far more effectively than he’d                 anticipated.
Tumblr media
                He stood again, a bright smile at his lips. ❝It’s a pleasure to finally meet                 you.❞

@drexm-eater·
It was Riku’s own personal opinion that he just— didn’t have any interest, had no time, for that kind of thing anyway; though some other Shadowhunters, he knew, could be somewhat irritated at the life they lived; True, some left, became normal Mundanes, but – most stayed, kept their objectives head-first and worked hard to protect the Mundanes as much as they could hope to.
It’s—- difficult, to explain that kind of thing– especially to a Mundane themselves.
“We relax,”
He rather liked to read books in his spare time – though his own hobbies did tend to consist of training, fighting, reading up on Shadowhunter and Mundane things; Other things didn’t hold as much interest for him,
“But we have our tasks and goals at hand; we’re dedicated to our work.”
‘Dating and stuff’ was something he could save until he was older; perhaps if he joined the Clave, or at least slowed down a bit in terms of field work; until then, however, he was stuck in this cycle of his.
He wouldn’t deny that Sora seemed far more worried over such a trifle than he was – it was a kiss, and that was that; if someone cared about that kind of romantic thing, perhaps the Prince would be better off talking to Kairi about it; she was the romantic out of the two Parabatai – and it’s only with a shrug of his shoulders that he responded;
“It’s not that important.”
{♔}  — As Riku spoke, it reminded the Prince that he only saw hisGuard while                 he was working. Sora often relaxed and enjoyed his downtime around                 Riku but Riku was never doing the same. His free time was spent away                 from Sora,away from his work. The sudden realisation seemed bizarre                 to the Prince—the realisationof the unbalance in their relationship.                 Even though Sora had managed to loosentheir relationship and dispel                 the awkward formality that had lingered betweenthem, he never saw                 Riku outside of work.
                It saddened him for some reason.
                ❝Right,but—no, it is important!❞ Sora insisted. ❝Does that mean                 ‘yes’?❞
                He’d just—he’d just done it without thinking. The thoughthad popped                 into his head and he’d acted on impulsion. How was he to know thatit                 was his Guard’s first kiss? Oh, he felt awful now. He’d given the other                 opportunity to reject him but he hadn’t explicitly asked. What if Riku                 feltobliged to go along with Sora’s antics due to the power he held?
                ❝Ohmy—why didn’t you stop me?❞

The laughter that shook Sora caused a smile to play across Prompto’s face, feeling the mirth from the other himself from their proximity. Even though he was relaxed most of the time, Prompto felt even more so right then. Everything seemed to just melt away for a bit.
His hand moved to pet Sora’s hair, knowing full well it’d only increase the chances of him falling asleep on him. With a soft hum, he replied, “I think I’ll live even with your drool.”
{♔}  — He could feel any last remnants of tension coiled in his muscles fading                 away. His eyelids were simply too heavy to keep open; he’d no doubt                 fulfill his earlier prediction. He knew he was dozing off already.
                ❝It’ll probably be gross—drool everywhere,❞ he mumbled, nuzzling into                 the hand in his hair. ❝Can’t say I didn’t warn you.❞
