𝐒𝐋𝐎𝐀𝐍𝐄 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆.
“too bad. i was plotting to see how i could get you to tattoo my name on your ass next.” the mischievous grin was a sloane staple but the shiver that travelled up her spine when she saw him definitely wasn’t. of all the things she was expecting sam to produce, it definitely wasn’t a small jewelry box, similar to the one that had landed on her doorstep on valentine’s day. a beam spread over plush lips, appreciation clearly written on her features. “i love it,” she exclaimed as she opened the box, carefully running a finger over the bracelet. “guess that means you’ll be front and centre from now on, huh?” the thought of that thrilled her more than she’d like to admit. “care to do the honours?” a wrist was held out so sam could clasp it and as she did, she leaned in close to his ear, so only he could hear. “i’ll show you just how much i like it later.”
‘ yeah, that’s never happening, but you can dream, ’ he chuckled. suddenly, he let out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding in when the gift deemed acceptable. albeit, he was aware sloane wasn’t necessarily a jewelry type of girl, but for some reason, here he was: buying her jewelry. but she was different. it was easy to tell it was the gesture behind the gifts that she liked —- which in return, he liked. it wasn’t like he had a problem with spending money or anything —- he had more than enough to spare, but he didn’t like people using him for money and for gifts. with sloane, that was different. ‘ oh, count on it, assuming there’s room for me, ’ he teased, moving to clasp the bracelet around her wrist effortlessly. a seemingly perfect fit. a smirk appeared across his lips at her whispered statement. ‘ yeah? well, i should get you gifts more often, ’ he continued to tease; something that was easy around her.

𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐘 𝐏𝐀𝐘𝐍𝐄.
Matty was aware of how not into sports Samuel ever was. It was funny, to see him struggle around so much but they were now adults that could try not to get hurt and look stupid while playing just the two of them. Matty was athletic but volleyball was never his thing, he was more into football or basketball, really. “I’m fine with that. You’re the one that is gonna lose anyway.” He joked lightly before he positioned himself to hit the ball and get it over the net.
samuel could be stubborn, but anyone who knew him probably would know matty would win. it wasn’t so much as a pride thing, actually; but, suddenly, he couldn’t even remember how they’d ended up here —- playing volleyball of all things. as the other male began to position himself correctly to start the next round, samuel simply rolled his eyes. ‘ okay, then, remind me again why we’re even doing this and not going straight for the drinks? ’ he was quick to inquire.

“Not currently - but if you put in a good word for me who knows.” Andy smiled at the possibility, everything was capable of coming true in her mind. Even a thought like that. “This is a good set to see live - plus, everyone in Treeville basically loves them, can’t be sad in a happy crowd.”
‘ i can do that, ’ he begun, a light chuckle escaping parted lips. ‘ yeah? well, i can say that i’ve only ever heard good things about them, so here’s hoping they live up to that hype, ’ he nodded, managing to even surprise himself by how much he wasn’t hating this whole festival ordeal, like he thought he would —- if only because all of this wasn’t necessarily his scene. ‘ you headed over there now? ’

“no,” naomi let out in a huff, turning to samuel and showing him a small pout. “i wish that was my huge problem. my huge problem is the puppies, but we won’t get started on that.” she assured him. “and hit the gym twice as hard? i’m not sure they’re worth it.” she extended an arm out to envelop him a side hug before pulling back after a moment. “hey, stranger. glad to see you made it out.”
‘ i highly doubt you’d die if you didn’t hit the gym, ’ he begun, a light chuckle escaping parted lips as he returned the hug. ‘ almost didn’t, but i figured i’d come by and see what everything was about. plus, i heard there’s a band worth hearing; there’s a lot of hype, apparently. ’ a shrug passed his shoulders, as he snuck a peek at the menu before naomi. ‘ how about we get both and we can share? ’

“you won’t give it a try? that’s not very life of the party of you.” sarcasm was evident in her words, not at all actually wanting samuel to try whatever was in the glass given to her. god, she did not miss this. the unknown drinks or pills taken without question were a lifestyle she put behind her and exactly why she was opting to the contents of the glass onto the sand next to them. “guess we’ll never know. why don’t they just use bottles?”
‘ yeah? i could try it —- if i had a death wish or something, ’ he started, somewhat relieved as jenna poured away the contents of the mystery liquid onto the sand. then again, anyone with a hint of common sense would probably not drink it; the shit didn’t look like beer. or water, actually. but by the looks of it, there were plenty of people drinking away, seemingly not a care in the world. huh. would you look at that. ‘ who the hell knows? you should take it up with the people behind all of this, ’ he teased lightly. ‘ you having fun? ’

despite herself, there was still someone sloane was not so patiently waiting to see. during the set, she could have sworn that she had seen him out in the crowd but she couldn’t tell if it was merely wishful thinking. the thought of sam in the middle of a rave was downright amusing. the voice behind her was one she could place anywhere and as she turned, she didn’t bother to hide her grin. it was all attributed to the adrenaline, obviously. “hey, thanks. i’ll make sure to tell the guys that. though i don’t know if we can risk jake’s ego getting any bigger without it being a serious menace to society.” an eyebrow raised, head tilting in curiosity as she looked up at him expectantly. “i really hope that you got the band name tattooed on your bicep or something. since you’re our new number one fan and all.”
samuel enjoyed sloane’s company, that much was evident. but that was the extent of it, wasn’t it? obviously not. hell, he’d even shown up today for her, even though none of this was necessarily his scene. albeit, matty probably would’ve managed to talk him into swinging by eventually, but surprisingly enough, he didn’t have the worst time, and the night wasn’t over just yet. ‘ ah, well, you see, tattoos aren’t my thing, hate to disappoint you, ’ he shot back teasingly, an amused grin playing across dark features, seemingly effortlessly whenever he was in her company. ‘ so, way to make my actual gift look bad. ’ well, there was no going back now, he supposed. ‘ here, ’ he started again, revealing a small jewelry box from behind his back. inside, was a white gold charm bracelet with a single microphone charm. ‘ you get a new charm every time you guys perform a show, ’ he explained. a not-so-subtle way of saying he was definitely planning to go to more future shows.

“oh, god,” naomi breathed out as she looked up at the menu. it was no secret that naomi had a sweet tooth. in fact, she was certain that the whole town was well aware of this fact by now. which was exactly what led naomi to the dilemma that she was currently in. “how am i supposed to pick between funnel cakes and churros?” naomi huffed out, unaware as to just how close samuel was to overhear her. “what do they expect me to do?”
as he came up behind naomi, he simply let out an amused laugh at the woman’s predicament, letting himself be known. ‘ that’s your huge problem? ’ he smirked, helping himself to the empty seat at the table across from her. it was probably surprising he even showed up —- even if his nice shirt and jacket were kind of sticking out like a sore thumb. he didn’t care, though; and, he was technically here to at least try to have a decent time. ‘ why don’t you just get both? ’

closed starter for @reignedvices @ tvl fest !!
“You are going down, dude!” Matty exclaimed as he threw the volleyball back at Samuel excitedly. It almost felt as if they were back in high school, being dumb and playing around without a worry in the world. Granted, back then they had barely got along, and most of the fighting was for real. But now Sam had turned into one of his closest friends and it felt good. “You wanna bet or what? Whoever loses, has to buy drinks.”
samuel was never exactly the most athletic, not even in high school. he tended to stray away from sports, mostly because he concerned himself with more important tasks in his mind. nevertheless, contrary to popular belief, he was capable of having fun every once in a while, so long as he was in the right company. ‘ this isn’t fair, ’ he pointed out, but stopping shortly; he wasn’t about to be a sore loser before he’d even lost. ‘ fine, but it can’t be any of that cheap shit that come in plastic cups or whatever —- lord knows what’s in those. ’

‘ hey, ’ he started, as he made his way over to where sloane was only a few minutes after she and the rest of the band closed out the last song of their set. he was sure she’d seen him in the crowd at least once, but he still figured he’d swing by and say hi afterwards. yeah, if he was already here, he wasn’t about to not take any chance to see sloane, not that he’d ever admit that aloud, of course. ‘ you were really great out there. definitely lived up to the huge hype that you guys seemingly created, ’ he teased lightly, even though it was obvious he was being genuine. ‘ i uh, have something for you. you know, to commemorate my first time watching you play. ’ / @sloaneshq.

“is this regular water? or-?” the rest of her question was continued with a raise of her brows as if to clue them in on what she meant.
‘ honestly? doesn’t seem like it. ’ a shrug passed his shoulders at the glass jenna had been given. it had a tint of color to it; though it was subtle, it was definitely not the water jenna had asked for. ‘ don’t even think i’d give it a try —- seems suspicious. ’

OPEN STARTER. || accepting
“Fairly local is about to come on-” Andy began. She’d been trying to get as many people over to the stage as possible - really, she might as well be handing out brochures. Her smile didn’t falter no matter the response. How could it with the excitement she was feeling? “-you really aren’t going to want to miss it. Trust me!”
‘ what are you, their publicist? ’ he teased lightly, obviously somewhat amused by the blonde’s excitement. ‘ well, i was already thinking about swinging by to check them out, so no need to say more. it’ll be my first time catching them live, though. ’

“he may have done that because i ate the last of the poptarts in the backroom.” she hummed with a small shrug of her shoulders. “i’d trip me too.” gracelyn teased. “you really think i’d be able to forget everyone who got me there? maybe.. if i keep tripping over boxes.” the brunette chuckled, shaking her head at her own joke.
‘ oh, now this ghost is obsessed with poptarts? ’ he inquired, amusement to his tone. ‘ have i ever told you you have quite the imagination? ’ he offered, no longer focused on the music, but on their conversation. in some ways, it was almost nice catching up with someone he didn’t necessarily speak too often —- if only because of their respective schedules; perhaps it was also the fact that they weren't exactly close friends, but he digressed. ‘ you know, it has been a while. what’ve you been up to, gracie? anything interesting? ’

hands lifts as if in surrender, palms up and eyes wide as she feigns innocence. “i wanna be good, life’s just not letting me.”
‘ uh huh, ’ came his response, a hint of amusement to his tone as he faced sloane. ‘ yeah, i’m not buying that for a second, ’ he chuckled. ‘ c’mon, out with it. tell me; what’d you do? ’

𝐒𝐋𝐎𝐀𝐍𝐄 𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆.
“well, it’s a good day for a drink. although, for someone who hates today so much, it didn’t stop you from sending gifts. are you getting soft?” valentine’s celebrated had been few and far between for her. she had never been one to participate, always preferring to refer to it as ‘anti- independence day’. well, if you didn’t count this year. she had given to her friends, of course — and him. but he was a friend, right? writing a song for him was like writing one for anyone else. she rested against his cheek for a second, the smallest of smiles beaming on her lips. “was that a compliment? did that hurt you physically?” it had always been easier for her to banter with him this way, any shred of emotion safely hidden behind a quip. that had remained the same as they had gotten to know each other but there was something just a little different about it now. what was different, though, she couldn’t ( and wouldn’t ) say. for a moment, they swayed together. just a little while ago, it would have been hard to convince sloane that she would ever see samuel on a dance floor. it was a pleasant surprise, to say the least. “well, i do love to dance,” her hand rests on his shoulder, lips grazing his ear briefly. “but i could be persuaded.”
there was no plausible rebuttal for him to even try, because he knew what she was saying was the truth. valentine’s day was pointless; he still very much thought as much, so what made him want to take part in it this year? nothing had changed from previous years, or at least, that was what he kept telling himself, anyways. ‘ please, i was —- just in a good mood. ’ bullshit. it wasn’t like he ever just randomly bought gifts for anybody because he felt like it. hell, he hardly ever brought gifts for anybody, period. ‘ really? now, that’s a surprise, ’ he commented with an amused tilt of his head. ‘ never would’ve taken you for one who enjoyed dancing, ’ he chuckled lightly. was he teasing her at this point? perhaps, perhaps not. truth of the matter was, he really didn’t know sloane all that well —- she didn’t have years upon years to sneak under his skin, she’d managed it within weeks, a seemingly impossible task. something about her intrigued him, pulled at him in a sense. something about her singled her out from being just another woman he’d be interested in for one night. ‘ and here, i thought you’d be willing to get out of here. ’ a short pause, a teasing smirk playing across dark features. his arm tightened around her waist, if only by a little, if only to pull her closer towards him, if that was even possible at that point.
