I’m not quite sure if Hiyori did it all voluntarily. I mean – did you notice his reports to Natsuya? You don’t have to be told exactly that you have to do this and that particularly. He was given a task, a job “Keep Ikuya safe”. For Hiyori that meant “protect, save, help, coddle”. His friends from middle school were a threat – each time he thought about them, he had trouble with the lack ox the oxygen. If Hiyori were to decide between pushing them away and keeping Ikuya safe, his choice was obvious. No one is saying that it was the right choice, but please – Hiyori is just what, 18? Are you excepting for such young adult to behave with wisdom and experience of elders? Moreover, Hiyori never had a chance to grow up healthy. He was forced to behave as an “adult” since he was a child, so it’s not unusual for him to act differently from his peers.
Tumblr media
Moreover, one important thing – Hiyori saved Ikuya’s life. Therefore, he feels responsible for him. If you want to know more about Hiyori’s behavior (and how wonderfully KyoAni animated it), read @liadiness post about Hiyori’s body language.
What’s more – don’t let us forget that for Ikuya Hiyori is a replacement for Haru. This is enough for Hiyori to – at least – don’t like Nanase,
As for the Ikuya – please notice that he might feel alone. First he had trouble with Natsuya (in High Speed), then Haru and the team left him. He might be cautious and careful with making friends. That’s my opinion on his “no one is there to save me, I’m all alone” stuff. While I understand why is he like that, I cannot agree with his attitude towards Hiyori. Let’s make it clear – Hiyori was useful to Ikuya. Beside being his “carer”, Hiyori was his shield. But why do you think he did it on his own?
Remember that scene in episode 4? Hiyori isn’t scared that Ikuya saw Haruka and his team. Hiyori’s behaviour towards them isn’t a secret he’s hiding from Ikuya. If Ikuya didn’t want this, if they didn’t talk about it earlier, this scene wouldn’t look like this at all. Hiyori isn’t hiding that he met them before too. They are talking about it normally, so I can easily assume they come up together with this.

I respect your opinion, but for me Ikuya is still a bad guy. When Hiyori tried to rebel against him, tried to talk some sense into Ikuya, he left him just like that. And says to someone from the past, who he hasn’t seen for at least 4-5 years, that “You know what, I don’t think of him as my friend”.
That’s why I am thinking that Ikuya is really a bad guy. A douchebag, who was using Hiyori’s feelings and when he wasn’t useful anymore, dumped him.

My job here is done.
This is so sad. One race - that was enough for Ikuya to be friend with Haru again, without realizing that his long time friend was always beside him.

Come on, Ikuya, saying “I am sorry” isn’t so hard.
Nevertheless, I am glad to see both of them finally happy. It might be untold, but I think Ikuya realized how much he means to Hiyori and how much Hiyori means to him.
I am also happy to see them both swimming in the medley together. And that Ikuya helped him get out of the water. They are now equals.
Moreover, thank you Natsuya for realizing this:

I’ve just want to high-lite how important this scene is. Haru is usually a calm, withdrawn and quiet man. During TYM and DttF we saw him changing - he started talking about his emotions, feelings and things that hurt him (like Hiyori being mean to him)  Now we have Haru, who is literally screaming his inner voice and making a (loud) promise to him, to his friends and to the world. One of the best character development in anime I’ve seen.

While I was rewatching Free dttf, I’ve noticed that both Ikuya and Hiyori are thinking about themselves as a Little Mermaid. We all know what Hiyori gave up - his own happiness. He acted as a villain to protect Ikuya, took care of him and stood beside him. But I wonder - does Ikuya really know what he is giving up? He is focused on his past and Haru and - as Little Mermaid lost her voice for legs - Ikuya is giving up his friendship with Hiyori over the grief from the past. What is even sadder - he doesn’t notice it. When he is thinking about loosing his friends, he doesn’t even remember about Hiyori. Well - he might be sure that Hiyori will always be with him. And this makes him cruel - using Hiyori, saying mean things, ignoring his feelings. I’m not even surprised anymore that Hiyori doesn’t like Haru. It doesn’t have anything with the swimming, but more about being replaced. Imagine yourself in this situation. You’re doing everything for your best friend, you even save his life, take care about his health, try to cheer him up, and yet he still prefers someone from the past? He is focused on him so much, that he calls his name instead of yours? And yet Hiyori doesn’t want Ikuya to know. He is fine with being the shadow of someone. He is so, so lonely, because while he is with Ikuya, Ikuya isn’t with him at all. Another thing. Why people still talk about Hiyori stopping Ikuya from meeting Haru and the others? In 4th episode Ikuya says that he saw them. If he really wanted to talk with them, he could do it. But he didn’t. Instead he let Hiyori deal with them (again!). Hiyori doesn’t deserve this. He is giving up much, much more than Ikuya.

Remember That Time... (Part 1)
Remember the time Goku got so pissed at Raditz for so much as talking about touching his son that he threatened outright to kill him if he took another step? Screamed it, in fact?
Tumblr media
Remember how, upon failing to protect his son, Goku actually began to scream his name, shake and tremble with rage and fear, and was nearly on the verge of tears? And how he was actually ready to rush right off and nearly get himself killed to get him back?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And remember how that little boy’s safety was actually paramount to the point Goku even refused to give Piccolo the fight he wanted until he knew Gohan was safe?

Sure seems to care a lot for a kid whose birth he supposedly couldn’t be bothered to even be aware of.

“Slave”? “Servant”?... no, its more
Nami has special way with words, and the way she acts is not always consistent and that is mainly because of overflowing and clashing emotions. However, sometimes words slip out of her mouth, and those words are the hidden meaning...
Tumblr media
In WCI, we can see how Nami and Zeus formed a special bond. She asked him to be her “servant”. Although “servant” might sound rough but she was doing it in a very friendly manner.
Tumblr media
However, later on when he turned against them again, she used her “slave-driver” attitude on him, and that was to assert dominance. But until now we can only see that the bond is not that mutual. And up until this point it doesnt seem like Nami would care about him
Right?🤷🏻‍♂️ “she is just using him”, “she doesnt care about him”, “there is nothing more to it”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We will never be FRIENDS again?” while she is crying?? Told you she is inconsistent....
Since when did they become “friends” I thought he was her “servant”, her “slave”? What happened?
Now these are the official translations, but EVEN if they weren’t accurate it doesn’t matter, she was crying.
Now... what else do we know?👀
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is she objecting? I don’t think so....
Well... everything slots in perfectly:
She acts heartless and cold towards him and it seems like she is using him
When he got taken away from her, she went and got him back
When he “seems” to have chosen a side, and it is not hers, she parts ways with teary eyes
Who do you think I am talking about here? Is it Zeus? Or is it Sanji? Can you say one with absolute confidence?🤭
Moooving onnnn~~ 😏there are some parallels to be noted but when it comes to Zeus we still have to wait. Because Oda has been teasing us with Nami using Zeus’ powers:
Tumblr media
Like Sanji, Zeus had a choice between Nami and Big Mom. And Sanji had a choice between Sacrificing himself to the Big Mom Pirates and Pudding or Risk many dear lives and return to the Strawhat pirates and Nami.
First, Sanji sacrificed his life and drove away Luffy and Nami. And we can see Zeus chose Big Mom’s side
However, what we already saw was Sanji choosing Nami over Pudding, but we have yet to see the end of it with Zeus.
I say he will somehow end up with Nami because it has been hinted at for quite some time, there has to be something more but we will see.
Tumblr media
From what we have seen from Nami, she is the most relaxed and happy when she is with someone who listens to her, when they do everything she asks for, when she does not have to stress and waste energy over nothing.
But now what is the difference between Sanji and Zeus? Well... Zeus is just a cloud made by Big Mom, he has a personality but at the end of the day he is just a talking weapon. Sanji is a man, one year older than her, clearly, madly and proudly in love with her and she knows that.
Do you know what she also knows? That he is extremely powerful, super smart and clever, the best cook around, a stylish gentleman, a very kind person, remarkably loyal, romantic-lovey-dovey-pervert that gets serious when he has too.
Not to mention his chivalrous nature that she already acknowledged.
One last touch: What is the most powerful attack the Nami has ever done? Nami’s biggest highlight as a fighter until now?
Tumblr media
Nami at full-power was supported by her two “servants”. One keeping her safe and sound, while the other is the one dealing the damage. I wonder if we will see this combo again...
Now my question to you.... Is there anything that I mentioned here that I brought up from myself or outside the manga? All I did was collect moments and compare them🤷🏻‍♂️
Think about that...
I am pretty sure the people who used the “Nami uses Sanji, so they can not be together” would still look into something else to nitpick even after they see how Nami actually feels... I dont really care that much but as an advice, just join us already believe me you are going to have soo much fun, if you still refuse well... I am doing my best here.

Daily life...
Valentine Special... (not really special, just wanted a chance to have a “special” post😂)
What I find really fascinating is how a lot of people don’t realize (or should I say intentionally ignore) Sanji’s impact and his influence on Nami’s life. Oda has already given us more than enough moments for us to notice just how crucial of a role Sanji plays for Nami’s happiness.
Allow me to show you what I mean....
*I am going to use One Piece Omake (Extras) again for this one. Simply because that was a direct way Oda mentions this topic.... he literally made an extra talking about the strawhat’s lives “before Sanji joined”
But of course, like always, I will be using moments straight from the manga.
First, Nami sailing with Luffy, Zoro and Ussop:
Tumblr media
Now, as pirates it is only expected to face hardship and struggles in regards to extreme weather conditions, waves, attacks from Marines, Pirates or maybe Sea Kings so I will only focus on daily life-simple-kinda stuff (but unnecessary trouble caused by others during the struggle counts)
As we can see, she was having a really hard time managing everything she could. She had to navigate, draw maps, cook and was in charge of managing storage conditions. Basically, she was stressed.
But, with the introduction of Sanji, all of the sudden life is much easier and more relaxing for her specifically. Now people might say: “the more people join the easier life would become for everybody, that doesnt mean anything”. Well... life did become easier when Robin joined since she thought two steps ahead, right? Chopper did make life easier by having a doctor available constantly. Franky did make life easier with the functions in the Sunny. So yea life is much easier... but what does that have to do with Navigating and her dream? Sanji’s role directly affected Nami’s life in three major ways:
Made it easier for her to focus on navigating and doing her job.
Gave her way more free time for her to draw her maps the way she wanted to.
He is also considerate of storage, malnutrition and the crew’s money & budget
Tumblr media
Yes, I agree... Robin, Chopper and Franky did make life easier for sure. I can’t possibly deny that in the slightest, if I did then I am just simple-minded and I am forcing myself to read my own version of One Piece and I will never do that. But...
Tumblr media
You also can not deny what Sanji has offered Nami specifically since the day he joined. He took soo much off of her shoulders (on top of appointing himself as her servant willingly), unlike for example Franky who made life much easier for Ussop.
Now after the time-skip, there are three instances where the crew was not full, and Nami set sail: Twice with Sanji on board, and Once without him on board:
1) Nami with Sanji on board:
Tumblr media
Seems to be smooth sailing... no troubles whatsoever. Like I said before, I will focus only on simple stuff, no attacks, unnecessary stuff simultaneously occurring on top of extreme weather conditions can be included because simply more trouble to keep in mind.
She can focus solely on Navigating, no one causing her issues... ALL CLEAR✅
Nami without Sanji on board:
Tumblr media
I bet she forgot the good ol’ days of sailing with Luffy, Zoro and Ussop😅. It has been a really long time since we have seen her this stressed setting sail...
Tumblr media
This here is Oda hammering home the impact of Sanji’s presence on the ship. Nami is having the worst time sailing ever. Read every dialogue carefully... it is all referencing most of Sanji’s influence on the ship.
Plus: I will mention this moment again
Tumblr media
I talked about storage before didn’t I? This is another example of normal members of the crew stocking up on food supplies, but management is also another factor that plays a big role.
Plus, one quick thing... Sanji always begged Nami for a “Refrigerator with a lock” to avoid anyone (mainly Luffy) from stealing food. Of course the Sunny has one, but that is proof that Sanji was serious despite how he used to act😂
Tumblr media
“You are all useless” (in other translations she says “for crying out loud, your skillset is so one dimensional”) let me talk about the other two first... I’ll come back to this later.
“Just watch the waves for me”. So when she is unavailable to navigate due to circumstances, she needs someone to do it for her. We have seen before how Zoro failed miserably while Nami was sick, but then Sanji was the only one doing it AND doing it right.
Going back to the summer heat biome... in Punk Hazard, we saw exactly what Sanji would’ve done in that situation. I don’t even need to speculate, Oda already showed us that.
Nami with Sanji back on board:
Tumblr media
As we saw when they entered Totto Land range, they started to encounter hardships right? Well, when they left there seems to be no issues whatsoever. Back to smooth sailing, Nami was relaxed, happy and no problems at all✅. (this is a good chance to address the fact that the people who believe that Nami hates Sanji because how he “always” acts during hard times.... well I am sorry to tell you that you are completely and utterly wrong)
Now... going back to “You are all useless” or “one dimensional skillset” why did I leave it at first? I want to share an observation I came to:
Leaving Dressrosa to Zou: Nami Sanji Chopper Brook (+Momonosuke Ceasar Clown) ✅ -> All clear!
Leaving Zou to WCI: Nami Luffy Chopper Brook (+Pedro Carrot Pekoms) ❌ -> Stress
Leaving WCI to Wano: Nami Sanji Luffy Chopper Brook (+Carrot) ✅ All clear?...🧐🧐
Do you see what I am getting at? What Nami said basically confirms the notion that Sanji alone is too god damn useful in her eyes it wasn’t even close... him alone is enough to change the entire voyage
Personally, I just can’t see a future where Sanji has to live away from Nami, since she has been an essential part, a piece, of his character since the very beginning.
And for Nami, as you can see... why in hell would she do that to herself??
Tumblr media
Sanji alone made Nami’s adventure move way smoother than it would have been without him or if his personality was different (aka if he was not in love with her). She knows that and she doesnt need to show it for us to realize that.
I hope all you couples out there have a happy and joyful Valentine! Too bad Sanji and Nami (mainly Sanji😂) can’t celebrate that cuz they are too busy with a war right now😅.

Was Pudding’s character supposed to be a variant of Nami?
Disclaimer: At first I read the manga from a normal One Piece persepective. This is just a thought I came to after re-reading the manga multiple times. This does not have to change your way of viewing Pudding.
It has come to a point in the manga where Oda is having difficulty drawing beautiful women in a different style. A lot of people are saying that many women in One Piece are just clones of Nami and Robin. That may be true, I personally do not blame Oda for that but they have the right to say that.
However, what I want to talk about is how it felt to me (after re-reading) that Pudding is somewhat of a variant, a different version, of Nami in a “Narrative” way. And a little bit art wise...
First, let me start from the very beginning:
Tumblr media
Ok now hear me out.... to the SaNami ship 373 is the holy number, but I would assume numbers 3 (Nami) and 5 (Sanji) also play an important role as well. Big Mom has 39 daughters, but Oda decided for Pudding to be the 35th.
If you dont think of these numbers as a thing, then this point is invalid for you. Totally fine with that👍🏻.
Next we have:
Tumblr media
Even as a SaNami fan, I was really surprised how Sanji totally skipped on complimenting Pudding in her wedding dress. I did not think that was possible. I dont know if the translations are correct for the Nami one, but I believe in other versions, plus the anime, Sanji said “Only Nami would look good in a pure white dress”. As for Pudding, she had to seduce him in order for.... that...to happen (His face is scary af to be honest😂). They are the only two women to wear a wedding dress in front of him, which supports the idea of Pudding being a variant of Nami in a way.
As for the art and design:
Tumblr media
I am not going to talk about how similar they look, instead, I want to talk about extensions. If you look at those two panels, it seems as though Pudding is just Nami with add-ons. To elaborate: instead of one pearl earing, Pudding has 4, instead of a bun, Pudding had twin-tails as well. Lipstick, no lipstick.... get what I am saying?
I am not good at editing, but if someone would remove the extended hair, remove the bottom 3 pearls and tone down the lipstick, you might be able to understand what I am saying a bit more.
Also, I already have a feeling not many will agree but that’s ok... we move.
Tumblr media
She was also the only women aside from Nami that he reacted like that because of cuteness. Notice how in these two instances Sanji knew that what he was facing was an enemy?
But of course, many will say Sanji sees almost all women as cute. And that is true😅, but:
Tumblr media
Both Sanji and Nami agree that “Nami being cute” is a reason.
One Major aspect of Pudding’s character is that she is 100% and straightforward tsundere. But again, I am not going to talk about how Nami can be a tsundere as well, but I want to highlight a certain character choice:
Tumblr media
In this translation, they wrote “My dear” but in the Japanese version she clearly says “-san❤️”. Do you see where I am going with this? Oda decided to have Pudding be hostile and offensive in all her dialouge except for “- san” for the most part.
Maybe he is emphasizing the point that these honorifics are more important than people think. Pudding lets out all her love in “-san”, and “-san” “-kun” honorifics are a big part of Sanji-Nami dynamic.
Tumblr media
People say that Nami uses “-kun” as just a way to return respect for Sanji calling her “-san” (give and return), and I will not argue with that. That is most likely true. But now, no one can say with complete certainty that it can not mean anything else...
After all...
Tumblr media
Oda showed us that he is fully aware on that topic. And one more thing.... Sanji did not stop calling Nami with “-san”, so her removing it herself has nothing to do with give and return.
So people might question... why I am against Sanji being with Pudding if she is another version of Nami? Isn’t that good enough or the same?
No. Simply because she is not Nami...
Tumblr media
Pudding has yet to see the world. She did not know herself yet:
Tumblr media
A lot of people seemed to have overlooked this moment but to Sanji, Pudding is nothing but a lost soul. If he accepted her it would just be him taking advantage of her innocent side.
To him, he was just glad that he was able to help her realize that herself.
