everything I have ever learned in my lifetime leads back to this:
in blackwater woods - mary oliver // theo walcott and jack wilshere celebrate v swansea city // theo carried off after ACL injury during NLD // jack suffering ankle injury requiring surgery // theo celebrating fastest arsenal goal (20s) // jack dribbles v everton // theo and jack celebrate 2015 fa cup
#might cry ngl#reminiscing about this arsenal era again somebody please sedate me#they both deserved so much better than they got#jack... he was really meant to be the best it's not FAIR#theo walcott#jack wilshere#web weaving

carlos cuesta you are more than just a pretty face to me you're also an involuntary participant of a wholly pointless case study i have in serie a this season 🫶 (with cesc too because who am i if i don't make everything about arsenal somehow)
(rest is pasted from my twitter so sorry about readability this is just so i can keep record on 2 places)
...case study i have in serie a this season about how far funding and backing from owners > managerial decisions (comparison to como who have generous owners + a similarly 'prodigal' manager)
obv this isn't a fair comparison by any means (cesc has a 2 ssn headstart + first season tax with a weaker squad) but some of the differences (parma's players getting injured vs como's "luck" w injuries + cesc being a former player vs carlos' lack of playing background) make it more interesting
both carlos and cesc come from similar schools of thought in pep (cesc as a player in barca and who he credits as being tactically the strongest manager he's worked with, carlos as an observer when he did his little tour of europe but picked up many ideas from) and more importantly (to me) mourinho, carlos' role model (though mourinho never replied to his messages for his sabbatical lol poor guy) and cesc's favoured manager (on a personal level due to his man-management). however, both appear slightly more adaptable than their counterparts: cesc frequently changes his formation depending on his opponent and carlos has pragmatically adapted parma's playstyle to suit their players rather than use a set tactical system (it was possible maresca!)
i feel like the most 'wenger-like' quality that they both share is how they both place importance of the identity of a club in its success. cesc has already fleshed out a clear identity in such a short time at como, and carlos has repeatedly said in any interview he's given that he intends to do the same at parma. imo this is more important than any tactical influence but that might just be the arsenal in me talking.
the teams themselves have very different backgrounds in terms of history but they did both get direct promotion in 23/24 even though they finished very differently in 24/25 so the comparison of achievement has to be relative ofc but i'm so ready to watch this play out
como have already completed 11(!!) signings this summer, most notably morata on loan (the only loan transfer) with an almost even split between defensive players (3 cbs, 2 fullbacks, 1 dm) and attacking players (1 st, 2 rws, 1 lw, 1 am) to add to their 10(!!) jan signings (CRAZY)
parma on the other hand are much more reactive with their 5 signings so far, with 2 cbs 1 dm 1 cm and 1 st mostly being to balance out the st, lw, dm, 2 rws, cm, cb (leoni 💔) and rb they lost in this window (+ the aforementioned injuries) which still haven't been fully covered
i still need to wait to see a few matches to compare tactics fairly but from what i've seen of parma they can't afford to play more 'beautiful' football because of the lack of players at cc's disposal (which is so depressing) but believe it or not i doubt that's an issue cesc has
#self indulgent nonsense but i have to keep busy somehow#character limit was beating my ass so this doesn't cover everything but it's a start!#i was fighting off watching como last season#but when carlos moved cmon i can't not watch serie a now#2 former arsenal boys?? i was watching juve for woj once upon a time this is nothing for me 😭#but i digress#post lazio game (and most of the juve game) and clearly someone took more pointers from mourinho than the other#ironic again because mourinho's the one that carlos has no direct relation to in this fucked up family tree of managers and their sons#but wow simeone deserves a mention here because parma parked the bus almost expertly#key word almost but they tried hard#como on the other hand... beautiful football#paz's free kick wow omg#parma needs to focus on balancing attacking with defending more#but i do understand he's trying to not get them to lose embarrassingly on the first day#carlos cuesta#cesc fabregas#i'll think of a tag for this eventually#como#parma
