how tactile is your chert? that is, how do they feel towards giving and receiving physical affection? how does that change in the eldritch au? also, what is their relationship with different hearthians like and how does that warp for different ones in the eldritch au? in different separate monster aus, how do they feel about each specific monster hearthian?

also also, did siren gabbro ever have a situation where they used their powers without meaning to?

I've been sitting on this for a while cause i was trying to think of a doodle to do but none came to mind. Sorry, no doodle. :(

I don't really imagine canon Chert as being all that cuddly, tbh. I don't think they dislike touch it I just don't think they'd go for a lot of hugs or cuddles with people. Too busy working, too busy convincing themself they're the only one working. They do love their friends, tho, and are happy to spend time with them so long as they aren't being purposefully distracted from something important. Eldritch Chert is a lot like this, especially since their change from being mundane to eldritch is slow. They never really lose the desire to be with friends, but it shifts from "i love being with my friends!" to "i am amused by the actions of these lesser beings. they are endearing." They're probably closest to Gabbro, Riebeck, and Hornfels, and those three are definitely their favorite Hearthians. I think Gabbro very quickly becomes their favorite favorite because they're the only one who can somewhat grasp higher dimensional concepts, and Chert finds it fascinating that a mortal mind could even get that far. With Feldspar's disappearance, tho, they actually spend a good amount of time thinking about them. Not out of favoritism, but because they feel like the Bramble has stolen something of theirs and they want it back.

As for the other question, I think you're asking what regular Chert thinks of each monster in their respective aus? Feel free to send another ask if not, ig. Anyway, Chert's very comfortable with both the vampires in vampire au because they know Gossan and Feldspar would never hurt them. They are not typically a blood donor since they're so small, but they have given to the emergency supply Gossan puts together after Feldspar disappears. I haven't figured out the other aus quite as much as vampire au (it's the oldest, other than eldritch chert au), but I imagine their feelings about the other monsters aren't much different. Hearthians are very adaptable and accepting, and I don't think any of them would seriously shun another person in the village for any reason, including being a monster.

And finally, Siren Gabbro has definitely accidentally lured their friends without meaning to. Thankfully it just puts them in a trance for a minute (where they just wanna follow Gabbro around everywhere) and nothing dangerous actually happens, but it's super embarrassing when they let it slip like that.

again, a whole lot to pick from wow. i like small interjections, especially spelled in a way to fit the situation at hand (yeag, waow, etc.). swear words are timeless. also outer wilds and 17776 made me really appreciate "buddy" as a term of endearment.

ohhh that is a really good question, theres literally an infinite amount of them to pick from, i dont even know. ive always been biased towards evens i guess, i used to be 6 for a while because of a certain web series. if i have to create a temporary nickname or something and the no numbers version is already taken i usually go with some combination of evens, 22, 24, 246, 2468, etc. but i dont think i can give the honor of Subjectively Best to any single one honestly. but thanks so much for asking!

what was the tloow equivalent of founding the owv? seems likely the hearthians already a long history with domesticated bugs, so was it just discovering how to fly on them? was it feldspar wanting to explore other floating islands? i wonder what planting a flag on the attlerock looked like in this au. also this possibly means feldspar is a bug-they (like a horse-girl but. yk). now im imagining young felds being generally nice to animals, aww

The Hearthians indeed have a long history with domesticated bugs, but it was forbidden to ride them. The Hearthians were only allowed to ride flightless bugs, meanwhile flying bugs were only allowed as "working bugs" to carry heavy material for example, or as companions if they were small and couldn't lift you. Riding a flying bug was considered very dangerous, as many Hearthians in history ended up falling to their death, or disappearing in the endless cloud sea.

Feldspar (and the other founders) was the first to properly domesticate a flying bird, and build the proper material to ride them safely. It is still forbidden of the rest of the village to ride flying bugs, but a permission was granted to the Travelers, as long as they have the proper training.

Also yes, Feldspar is totally an equivalent of a horse girl! Not only they're driven by the need to explore, they also love those massive bugs! Their size, their speed, their colors... love them! It's a chance that the first time they tried to ride one, they fell into water instead of solid ground. Or worse...

if eldritch cherts first encounter with the "void between the stars" was as a young hatchling (based on that comic you did about their origins), was there an "adjustment period" of sorts where they learned to live as what they now were, or was it more instantaneous? are they getting on perfect with it or is there anything they hide rather than deal with?

also, if something (not necessarily as powerful as them but something they would still struggle to keep up with) threatened the village, how would they react? (i see potential for both some delicious angst and some badassery from chert here tbh.)

Eldritch AU is its own thing, so Chert acts a little differently than they do in the "all my monsters are in one place!" scenario. They're a lot more like canon Chert, since they feel no need to assert their dominance as the most powerful monster among them.

They've very slowly lost their "humanity" (for lack of better word), so things like emotions and attachments have shifted from something a Hearthian would experience to something far more other. Their affection for their friends became possessiveness, for example. They now consider the Hearthians theirs, like one would think of a toy or pet. There isn't a separate entity inside them, they're becoming the Void Between the Stars, the Entity that wishes to Know and Discover.

There are two additional eldritch beings in Eldritch Chert's AU, one of which they are aware of and one they aren't. The Bramble is actually considerably bigger, stronger, and older than Chert. Chert sees it as their biggest threat, and is currently trying to subtly grow their power so they don't draw its attention. Right now they're too insignificant for it to take note, so when it does they want to be able to hit like a truck.

The Bramble itself is old and vast, spanning across many galaxies. It seeks to grow, and is so massive that it has no actual threats. If given the opportunity, though, it would certainly devour a smaller entity like Chert.

eldritch chert seems to be a tad more arrogant than canon chert - would you say this is due to their predicament or despite of it? (im rooting for them honestly. yesss you funky alien do some verbal self care)

Eldritch Chert is the strongest, oldest, and biggest of all of the "Hearthian monsters." I mean, if you were hanging out with a bunch of little beetles, and found out some of the beetles could eat the others or live without a head or grow plants out of their body, you'd probably think, "Oh that's cool for those beetles." But they'd still be beetles.

okay so @reject-roach a bit late cuz I really have no idea how to design ships in this AU First: Slate's workshop Underwater environment probably won't support many of the tech we know of so we'll have to be creative about it, and make up stuff that doesn't exist but at least looks cool enough to logically ignore it  Their technology development would probably be completely different, smelting process is a big problem, I don't know how exactly submarine volcano works but I think they could use that, in someway, eventually and if smelting in water doesn't work, there's always creative ways to build a air environment, they'll have to work on the landsuit tech first in that order

Second: Ships and Travelers camps Definitely both! it's going to be really a big headache for Slate tho, considering in this situation not only the ship needs to be able to change pressure to be able to change altitude underwater, but to be able to 'flow' in air environment, which I presume they don't have the concept of 'flying' that is?      Travellers' camp would be more important in many ways, cus different part of ocean means different ways of how currents flow and different kind of dangerous animals like toxic jellyfish or electric eels etc. Maybe in some extreme environment you'll need new kind of protective clothing. Better go asking for information and equipment when a new explorer arrives.  

Third: Dark Bramble YES. Swamp could be a fun land idea to explore, but I personally want to see those angler terrors being big as fuck in the deep sea and could scare the shit of others, along with many more deep sea giant creatures >:D was going to do some ship design doodles but it's hard as fuck, and to do good visual design for this AU I might need to look for a lot of marine biology documentaries and studies which I'm not particularly interest..... and that's why they need Technical Advisor in these kind of things orz

when i first showed my friend outer wilds it was basically by letting them tell me what to do and which dialog optionsyo pick. but discord just broke on my laptop that day, and it took a lot of uninstalling and reinstalling stuff to get it to work later. so for the first session and the first session alone this is what i was filming/streaming on. the friend in question basically just said "i can see why you play that game i think"
