I hope we get lots of in depth, meaningful conversations between Lyra and Grayson in GR. I want to see Grayson pour his heart out to Lyra, showing her what he’s been through to get to the point where he is now (comfortable with being open about making mistakes etc.) and for her to realise how much he’s suffered too. I want her to give him a hug 🥹 and I want Lyra to tell Grayson all about her life. She mentions a few small bits in tgg but i need more. I want to see her talking about where she grew up, what the old Lyra was like, what she’s studying now (all the stuff that we as readers also want to know). I want them to have that emotional bonding and to see them connect in a slower, more intimate way. Tgg was focused heavily on the game itself and the escape room, so I’m hoping that in GR, jlb returns to that focus on the characters themselves so that alongside the action, we get to see the characters and the relationships develop without rushing it. I just really want lots of wholesome, fluffy lyrason content 🥺

people need to stop misunderstanding grayson hawthorne, he's actually a 'wears his heart on his sleeves' guy. like he is a deep romantic, there's a reason it took him forever to get over emily, even though, like he said, he never truely loved her, only the idea of her, because he falls very deeply, cuz its a ya romance novel. the only reason he was rude to avery when he met her is cuz she inherited what he was told since birth would be his, and even then he's teaching her how to do everything with the foundation, and basically falling in love with her. He does bottle up his feelings obviously, but they come out very easily, like he famously is an incredible violin player because his emotions are obvious. he's a photographer, not some alpha buiness man who doesn't care bout anything but the grind. he grows very attached to eve very quickly, even more so to Gigi and Savannah, Gigi especially though, also Acacia. You could argue its because he saw people he already loved in them, emly in eve, xander in gigi, himself in savannah, nash (?) in acacia (this is less overt and i believe not textually stated like the others, but literally everyone in these books does this, avery sees herself in jameson and grayson, libby in nash (?), jameson sees himself in almost everyone icl, rohan, branford, his dad, then Tobias in the proprietor, there's also everyone having something in common with Tobias, thelove of riddles (even Sheffield Grayson with his mystery box), I believe the offical is nash got his saviour complex, grayson his perfection (???), Xander his brains and Jameson his hunger, which he also has in common with Toby, which is hilarious given the two aren't even related technically, there's Toby and Avery who are similar too, so really everyone is connected to one another, and also Grayson is deliberatly making these connections, therefore he is still seeing the people he loves in basically strangers.

All this to say, the progression of his relationship with lyra makes sense, there's this girl on the phone who seems simular to him(unwilling to open up), is a mystery (like truely almost everyone in this series he loves a mystery) and she opens up to him, kinda, but she tells him abt her trauma, he feels enderaed to her, he feels like its his job to make up for what his grandfather did, and she reminds him of himself. Then he meets her, she's beautiful and smart and everything he has been able to build up in his head over a yEAR, she's a bit rude but then he keeps needing to 'save' her, e.g. telling her not to fall off the cliffs, helping her through her flashbacks, they bond the same way Avery and Jameson do, through solving a puzzle, in fact they solve two. ofc people argue she's simular to avery, which i don't really see but ok, and that's just another reason for him to like her, also, they literally only kiss, savannah and rohan seem to be doing a lot more than that, Lyra and Gray had 'met' a year ago, she's obviously been on Gray's mind ever since, he was her celebrity crush (given how she called him due to the interview he gave with Avery), anyway it makes perfect sense, and that's coming from someone who loves a slowburn.

lyra x grayson headcanons

whenever grayson visits lyra’s family, her little brother practically clings to his leg the entire time. he loves grayson A LOT because grayson can never say no to him 💖💖

grayson is the type to never wear socks when he sleeps and lyra is the type to ALWAYS wear socks when she sleeps (and grayson is extremely distraught and confused as to how she can sleep with socks on as he hates it). but also she naturally runs cold so while grayson is just in a pair of sweatpants shes wearing thick long sleeved pajamas and huge winter socks

lyra can cook, but literally only recipes from her childhood. otherwise she always burns the food. and grayson can cook anything but thats just because he follows out recipes perfectly whereas lyra skips steps for “time efficiency”

grayson can sleep through an earthquake but lyra wakes up if the floorboards even creak

lyra’s periods are actually downright horrendous. she gets heavy cramps, and has to wear those diaper sized pads because of how heavy her flow is. but grayson always makes sure to stock up on dark chocolate and be by her side whenever she gets her period because he understands how much pain shes in, emotionally and physically 🫶

whenever lyra has the dream of her father, she usually just lays in bed and cries as quietly as she can so as not to disturb grayson. but grayson, even with his deep sleeping tendencies, can somehow always tell when shes crying

they’re libby and nashs kids’ favourites because they always let them pick how they want the day to go. their hangouts always end with one of the kids clutching grayson/lyra’s leg and begging their parents to let them stay longer.

whenever anything good happens in lyras life, like a big accomplishment, grayson always says “kane” in a proud tone that never fails to make lyra giggle. whenever she gets good news, she runs home every single time just so that she can hear him call her kane in that way of his. 🤭

⬆️ similar to this, grayson likes when she calls him “hawthorne”, even though a lot of the time its to mock him. he just likes how it sounds in her mouth, but he also knows that he likes how it sounds much better as her last name 💕💕

jameson, xander, nash, avery, max, thea, and even rebecca all agreed (in the hawthorne/hawthorne adjacent gc ofc) that lyra was cooler than grayson

lyra is unintentionally very secretive, so sometimes she just drops things about her life that grayson did not know and then is surprised that he doesn’t know because she “swears she told him”. (e.g. she’s joined a jujitsu program when she was younger because she was bored and randomly dropped it in a conversation at breakfast. she, in fact, did not tell grayson and he was extremely confused.)

lyra stares at him a LOT if she wakes up before him. she knows it creepy and that she should stop, but she stays as still as possible so as not to wake him up in the morning and just… stares. she knows he gorgeous and amazing in every way possible so sometimes shes just in awe of that fact and needs at least 5 minutes of “staring-at-her-boyfriend” time

grayson calls her sweetheart most the time, but also uses different pet names from time to time, like baby or love

lyra can be so petty at times that when grayson wants to ask if she needs help, he has to physically plan ahead. upcoming event in lyra’s life that is going to be stressful to endure and also should not at all be a one person job? grayson is lavishing her up and spoiling her up until he asks just so that he can get a yes and lyra doesn’t overwork herself 😭😭

before lyra and grayson were dating, grayson had met her little brother, and (in front of EVERYONE, graysons brothers, avery, the contestants) her little brother had whipped out a drawing he made of “lyra and her boyfriend” (he had seen them together a bunch and just assumed), and in the drawing lyra’s little brother was in the middle while lyra and grayson stood on different sides of him, and they were all holding hands.

safe to say that his brothers ALL gave them interesting looks and bursted out laughing while lyra and grayson immediately started reassuring that little 4 year old boy that they were not, in fact, dating.
