“Good,” Atlas breathed, nodding his head in relief. He didn’t know Ren’s father, but he knew how much she cared for him. She’d be devastated if something happened to him. “I’m really glad to hear that.”
She didn’t mention the kiss, so Atlas figured it was one of those ‘we’re going to die’ impulse things. He could handle that, he guessed. He liked Ren, to the point that he wouldn’t have minded if she did want to make it something more, but he understood the impulsive nature of life threatening ordeals, too. “I’m glad you are, too. When we landed and I couldn’t find you, I thought… Well, I was worried.”
Tumblr media
Renata nodded in response. She couldn’t live without her father, figuratively and literally. He was her repairman, her programmer, her life-source. Without him, she’d eventually crumble into nothing.
Tumblr media
"I’m sure you would’ve survived, Atlas. You’re a tough man and you know it,” she said, smiling at him saying how he was worried. It made her chest feel warm as he spoke, her mind stuck on every single word he said to her. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if I lost you, either.”

The relief he felt at seeing her was almost tangible. Atlas wasn’t an optimist. He always assumed the worst, especially when the worst seemed likely. The crash had been violent and brutal, and part of him had been so sure that there was no way Renata could have possibly survived. And yet, here she was. She was standing right in front of him, and he could breathe a little easier. “Yeah,” he said quickly. Physically, he was more or less fine. His prosthetic had been damaged, but that was easily fixed. Mentally, he was shot, but it was easier now that he knew she was all right. “Yeah, I’m fine. What happened? Did you and your dad make it to a shuttle? Is he all right too?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“We did. It was last minute, we barely made it but we made it onto one. He’s okay, just a bit rattled up,” she answered. The blonde was relieved to see him, or at least that’s what her programming told her to be. Living wasn’t a real concept for the android, just what she believed was.
She wasn’t going to acknowledge the fact that they kissed before the ship crashed. It was a move made out of panic, and she was nervous about any talks of it. “I’m glad you’re okay.”

“Now that’s an understatement.” Tessa pulled her sleeping son closer, his weight on her chest an unbelievable comfort. She glanced in the direction of the shimmer. “I heard some of the crew talking about organizing a patrol. I hope it happens soon.”
Tumblr media
“That’s... scary. I don’t know how people would want to go explore that.”

“She’s not one of the deceased,” Matt snapped, swallowing when he realized the words had come out harsher than he’d intended. “Sorry. Sorry. It’s just — She’s not. She’s the only family I’ve got now, so she can’t be.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’m sorry if that’s the case, though.”

“Uh, my… My friend. Yael, her name’s Yael. We were together before we fell, but I don’t…” Matt trailed off. “I don’t know what happened to her after that.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I can keep an eye out for her. She could be one of the deceased, but she may be okay. We didn’t lose too many.”

Hearing her voice, Atlas turned instinctively. He was wary at first — he’d heard a few people claiming they heard people they’d seen die in the crash, heard voices in the distance that couldn’t possibly be there — but there she was. His shoulders sagged in relief as he took a step towards her. “Ren,” he said quietly. “Are you okay?”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Renata was caught off-guard when she heard Atlas’s voice. He was alive. She never made it to him before the ship began its full descent, her father and her getting onto another shuttle when it was nearly too late. She hadn’t seen him in the days that they had been on the ground — and she was relieved. “Atlas,” she said, a small smile pulling at the corners of her lips. “Are you?”

“I guess we’ll find out,” Matt replied. It was hard to tell if they were the lucky ones or not at this point. They’d survived, but there was a chance that that survival only guaranteed them a slow death.
Tumblr media
He snorted at her statement. “Not sure if I’m lucky at this point yet,” he replied, repeating her earlier statement.
Tumblr media
“Do you have any family or friends here? Maybe I can leave you with them and can look. It might just be a long walk of pain for you otherwise,” Renata suggested.

“Lucky you. Or not, I guess, considering.” Matt’s parents had given up on him years before they’d shoved him on a spaceship, so he doubted they’d feel much guilt that his journey seemed to have reached its ultimate end long before the ‘better life’ he’d been promised.
Tumblr media
Sighing, Matt closed his eyes for a moment. “When we fell,” he replied. “It happened when we fell. I don’t know if it was before we hit the ground or not.” Everything had been so crazy in those moments.
“Not sure if I’m lucky at this point yet.” Renata sighed, but she still let out a smile through it.
Tumblr media
“Well, you’re at least alive. There’s that.”

“Has anyone heard all that crying and screaming at night? It’s seriously making me uncomfortable.” Renata sighed, herself and her father unable to sleep with the yells coming from the weird shimmery area nearby at night.

“Wise enough when to know to give me the boot.”
Tumblr media
Matt was putting most of his weight on her, but she didn’t seem to mind. He wasn’t sure he’d be standing if he weren’t leaning so heavily on her. “I don’t need to be carried,” he replied, more for his pride than anything else. This situation was bad enough without him being carried around. “My legs are fine. Carrying me would probably just jostle my arm more.”
“I was waiting for my father to do the same, but he brought me here, so — that isn't happening any time soon.”
Tumblr media
She nodded, not bothered by him shutting her down. “How did your injury happen? The descent? Before then?”

“My mom liked it.”
Tumblr media
She pulled him to his feet like it was nothing, and there was some odd sense of relief in that. Matt glanced around as much as he could without jostling his injuries, but he failed to find anyone who didn’t look just as panicked as everyone else. “Let’s walk around,” he suggested. “We’re bound to find someone.”
“Was she a wise woman?”
Tumblr media
Renata nodded as she started to walk with him. It was no trouble for her to drag him along, bordering too much. “If you need help, I might be able to just carry you. If it’s hurting too much,” she said, looking for anyone that didn’t look panicked.

Matt laughed, a little bitter. “No use arguing with ghosts,” he replied. It was something his mother always said, and it felt almost strange to hear the words in English rather than Polish.
Tumblr media
“They repaired it and it fell onto a strange planet. I’m not exactly looking forward to their next attempt at fixing it.” Clenching his jaw, he screwed his eyes shut tightly and nodded slightly. “Yeah,” he agreed. “Yeah, let’s try it.” Allowing her to take his uninjured arm and pull him to his feet, he groaned. Maybe his arm wasn’t so numb after all. He managed to get to his feet, though, and he sighed. “Which way should we go?”
“Such an odd saying.”
Tumblr media
Renata pulled him up with ease, his weight meaning nothing to her android body. As she got the man up to his feet, she sighed in slight frustration. She didn’t know where the nearest person that knew first aid was. For all she knew, they all died in the impact. “I don’t know. We can figure it out, though.”

There was no way to sway her. Atlas saw it in her eyes, saw that steely determination. He might have understood better if he’d ever had any family of his own, anyone he was willing to die to keep safe. Hesitantly, he nodded.
Tumblr media
“Okay,” he agreed. “I can’t — I have to get there. I need to be there. I’m the pilot.” Those shuttles were going to need people able to pilot them, and as much as Atlas hated the idea of stepping foot in one after his accident, he knew that person needed to be him. “Meet me there, okay?”
“I know, I know you have to be,” Renata said, frowning. She couldn’t stand seeing his stress (although she couldn’t really stand anyone’s stress) and she wanted to just take that all away. The strong shudder of the ship brought her right back to her senses and objective — to get to her father.
With a slight delay, she leaned in to kiss him. This might be the last time they saw each other or the last time they saw each other for a long time. The blonde wasn’t going to risk letting him go without letting him know just how she felt.
Tumblr media
“Please stay alive, Atlas. I’ll meet up with you at the shuttles.”

“The shuttles,” he repeated. “Yeah. Yeah, we should get to the shuttles.” The thought sent a jolt of unexpected panic through him, the memory of his shuttle going down fresh in his mind with the sudden jolts and movement all around the ship. “No, no we have to get to the shuttles. We can’t look for anyone right now. He’ll be on his way there, too, Ren, he’ll be fine.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The programming on her was too strong, wanting her to go take care of her creator and owner. She just felt the urge to go make sure he was going to be okay, and there wasn’t any kind of convincing that Atlas could do to make her change her mind.
“I’m not going to risk him not being on his way. He’s older, he might get lost,” she said, shaking her head. “I know where the shuttles are, I’ll meet up with you.”

“My father forced me into this shit, too,” Matt replied, going for a shrug but quickly changing his mind with a hiss. His shoulder was seriously fucked, and it probably said a lot about him that he was already scheming on how to get pain medication from the medbay as a result. “I just wanted to stay on Earth and live my life, but here I am, stuck on this shithole. I guess we’ll all die here, huh?” There was a nonchalance to his tone that didn’t seem to fit with the words.
Tumblr media
Glancing over to his arm, he snorted. “Yeah, guess so. Don’t know how much good it’ll do me in the long run, though. I mean, are they even going to bother fixing injuries? We’re all fucked.”
"Too bad that’s too far in the past to fix now,” Renata sighed. “Almost a hundred years too far in the past.”
Tumblr media
“The ship might get repaired, you never know. They managed to repair the ship last time. Maybe not the best, but they managed to repair it. Let's get you up, okay? We can find anyone willing to help,” the blonde said, reaching out to grab his uninjured arm to assist him up.

He let her steady him, feeling comforted by her hands on him even if it was only momentary. The relief left him when the ship continued to shake, reinforcing the idea that something was definitely wrong. Atlas closed his eyes, drawing in a shaky breath. “This doesn’t feel simple. I think something really bad is happening, Ren.” Another time he might try to comfort her, but he was far too panicked to try it now.
Tumblr media
“Should we get to the shuttles? Or — what should we do, Atlas?” Renata asked in a fearful tone, holding herself close to him as she spoke. She needed any comfort that she could get from any other person. “Just in case? We should — we should probably do that, right? I can try to find my dad — then... I don’t know.”

mattkowalczyk‌:
Everyone was stressed to hell, but that was hardly surprising. They’d crashed onto an alien planet with no idea where they were or how to contact the crews waiting for them on Abellio. If they didn’t get in contact, it would be two years before anyone even knew they were missing, and by then, they’d probably all be long dead. Anyone who wasn’t stressed in this situation was seriously deranged.
Letting out a pained wheeze of a laugh at the woman’s statement, Matt nodded his head, wincing when the motion jostled his injured arm. “You think? Somehow, I doubt they’ll give me my money back. Not that it’d matter, anyways. Hard to spend it when you’re dead.” Technically his father had bought his ticket, but he’d probably been dead for a decade or so considering all the time Matt had been in cryo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“How do you think that I feel? I was dragged here by my father because he’s great at repairing androids and they wanted him. I never wanted to go in space, I know we could’ve saved Earth somehow. And here I am. Stuck in some planet probably starving to death,” Renata rambled.
She looked at the injured arm of the man, frowning. “You should probably find someone in the medical field.”
