“Oh, no, nothing like that,” Izuku reassured him. He smiled somewhat sheepishly, shrinking back slightly. He was glad Ren had answered as many of his questions as he did, though he got the sense that he’d maybe gone a bit overboard. The truth was, he had a real admiration for all of his fellow classmates and not only wished to learn from them, but just thought they were really cool. As someone who grew up without a quirk, he had a real appreciation for those who did. At some point in his life he had wanted nothing more than to be one of them.
It was then that Izuku noticed Ren’s hat and remembered hearing that he had transferred from Shiketsu the year prior. He was about to ask how UA compared, but was worried that Ren would be annoyed with his question when Izuku was really only trying to be friendly. But his mouth was already open and he felt as if Ren was waiting for him to speak so he blurted “I like your hat.” Smoooooth, Midoriya, real smooth. He grimaced at his own comment and tried to save face. “You’re from Shiketsu originally, right?”

He snorted out a laugh as he listened to Deku. Ren put a hand up and shrugged a little, at this point he was trying to lighten the mood a little. Hell, there was no fun in fear, right? Raising a brow at the mention of his hat he took it off and looked at the detail of it. The band and metal school emblem had been changed to something more appropriate to U.A.’s uniform standards. But it didn’t change that fact it was a Shiketsu hat, especially considering it still had Inasa’s name scribbled into it.
“Mmn. There were some things I couldn’t let go from that school.” Ren pushed his fingers through his hair and pulled his hat back on in one smooth motion. “First place that wanted to make me a hero, y’know?”

Denki follows with the eyes the direction that the drumsticks of the other boy take until Ren points to his face with one of them. Kaminari tries to look at the drumstick in question, only managing to get cross-eyed in the process.
He blinks fast several times, and his golden eyes shine when he hears Ren’s answer. He has done it! Ren seems more animated than before, his tone at least. A little ‘one’ is written down in his mentally scoreboard.
“Then it’s decided! Oh?”, what he isn’t expecting is the other to offer his phone. It takes him a while to react, but as soon as he does he smiles broadly and nods energetically. “Of course!”, he quickly writes his phone number and saves himself under the name 'Kaminari ;) ⚡’. Once done it, he returns the phone. “Here. You’ll see, it’s going to be awesome”, he’s grinning like an idiot.

The contact name that Denki had assigned himself made Ren laugh a little as he read it over. “Yeah, it’ll be cool.” He slipped his phone back into his pocket before giving the other boy’s shoulder a pat. “See ya then.” Ren gave him a salute and a small smile before heading into his respective classroom.
Ren smoothed a palm over a desk in the back of the room as he pulled his phone out again to send Denki and quick text as he sat down with his feet propped up on his desk.
‘Forgot to give you my number in return. S’Ren by the way...’

Well that was sad to hear. He never like to hear that the students were having a hard time. That led to a lack in progression. At least that’s what teaching for dummies said. “Oh? Why so Young Moriyama? Is there something I can do to help with your frustr-”
The old man immediately stiffened. Sharp mouth hung open. What on earth. WHAT ON EARTH. This- this was so absolutely disrespectful! His hands were up in their usually way whenever he was trying to explain something, but they were shaking with unpleasantness. Out of almost instinct, All Might poofed and turned into his muscle form.
“Young man. I don’t know what you think you are doing, but remove your hand at once.” Was this how Yanai felt? A bit of guilt started to settle in his stomach.
By the reaction he garnered from the teacher, Ren’s hand recoiled in quiet defense. He really was pushing his boundaries today, wasn’t he? “Just only mimickin’ what you do to the others.” Ren said slowly as he wiped his hand on his pants. hat man’s hair sure was an interesting texture.
His gaze had adverted to something behind All Might as he awaited whatever lecture on respect he was going to get next. Sometimes Ren couldn’t hold back his impulses to press buttons he shouldn’t. At least he was the type of guy to take on full responsibility for his own actions.

Kaminari swells his lips in a funny grimace as the other starts walking again. He follows the other’s steps, of course; after all, that is the way he needs to go to find his class, at least if he remembers correctly.
“You play drums?”, he asks in an attempt to continue with a conversation between them. And the fact that Ren has drumsticks just tickles his curiosity. His voice is in a high tune because he wants to make sure that the taller boy listens to him despite the music. “I play the guitar! Maybe we can play together sometime?”.
“Yeah.” Ren said as he played through a mini drum solo that ended him in pointing a drumstick at Denki. The mention of playing together kind of brightened his mood a little. It had been a while since he played in any sort of band, even if it were only a band of two other people. “Y’know, I’d actually really like that.” His tone was pretty sincere despite the ever present look of murder on his face.
As they neared his classroom, Ren pulled out his phone and offered it to him kind of awkwardly. “Give me your number so we can set up a time to play together...”

half-of-a-hero:
Shouto wasn’t surprised that this guy knew him already. Between the sports festival and his father, he’d more shocked if he wasn’t known by most of the student body by now.
This guy seemed pretty okay. With a get-up like that, Shouto was worried that he’d bumped into a delinquent. Well, not worried, seeing as he could most definitely take this guy worst case scenario. But still. He’d heard of this guy before. Shouto had a general idea of the abilities of most of the third years by now, and this guy had piqued his interest. Two quirks wasn’t a common occurrence in the slightest.
“Moriyama…. you’re the student with two quirks. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Concise and to the point (as always), Shouto finishes his greeting with a slight nod of his head.
Of course he would been know as the other guy with two quirks, so it didn’t really tick him off that this guy actually did some homework on him. Ren tapped a drumstick against his own temple as he thought of something to say only to shrug and continue to play aimlessly as they walked down the hall toward their respective classes. Ren never really cared for pointless small talk, he actually rather talk with his fists than with words.
Hell, he had already gotten into it with a couple of other people, teachers included, already. For now he just needed to keep his head down for the rest of the day.
“Oi, if you ever need a good sparrin’ partner, I’m your guy.” He might as well put that out in the air now rather than ending up as an icicle later.

akio watched as the shadow returned to its natural form, testing it shortly with a movement of his hand. it was quite an interesting quirk that of the boy’s, but also he couldn’t think of a use for that in a real life battle against villains. maybe there was something else to that ability that the other hadn’t showed him? maybe the other had something else up his sleeves. despite those thoughts, he didn’t feel like the other would want to fight him there anymore, at least for the moment.
the boy’s facial expression would be of surprise were he able to show any, did he really not understand why someone would interfere in such a demonstration of poor character coming from a fellow class mate who also probably wanted to become a hero in a near future? he wasn’t only trying helping the one the other had attacked, but also the other himself.
“because your actions didn’t meet those of someone who wants to become a hero. heroes are the symbol of good in humanity, they should always think of the other before thinking of themselves. people who don’t follow the rules of society and are disrespecting towards the next will always be considered the enemy to me.” akio replied, although he himself wouldn’t always think of others before himself. but for him, this was different, he wasn’t trying to become an actual hero, he wanted to be her hero.

This kind of lecture was something he had heard before from a few different mouths. Ren wasn’t trying to become a top of the food chain hero like All Might. He gave the skeleton a slight shrug as he thought of the irony of it. “I give respect when given it.” Ren pointed to the scar of his cheek and continued, “You think the hero who gave me this was lookin’ out for others? Some real hero, right?”
There was no use in excusing or arguing about his own actions just moments before though. He couldn’t just blame his shit mood on someone giving him a side-ways glance. The urge to hit something, someone, had left him at the much needed distraction of this other student’s shadow. He thanked him for that.
“Y’know, I follow as many rules as I can to get by. Y’really should see where I came from before I ended up here.” He waved a hand at him and sighed softly. Society's never been that nice to him so why couldn’t he have a little fun breaking a few of these rules from time to time?

trueherodeku:
Izuku followed after Ren, much like a small dog, gazing up at the taller boy as a waterfall of questions continued to pass his lips. “Oh that’s interesting! So if the frequency and tempo you play at varies, how does that affect who you use it on? Does a slower tempo have a more calming affect than a faster tempo? Does it only work when you play the drums or are you able to create the same affect using a different instrument? Or do you need an instrument at all? Do you have any ultimate moves? If you were to play louder would that have the opposite affect or is it always a calming one?”
Izuku blushed slightly, realizing he wasn’t really giving Ren a chance to answer him. He just had so many questions and wanted to understand just how this specific quirk worked. If it always had a calming affect on others, he wondered how Ren used it to his advantage in battle. He must have come up with different strategies in order to best utilize it. Izuku hoped Ren wouldn’t get annoyed with him, shrinking back slightly to try to avoid that outcome. “Sorry for asking so many questions,” he apologized. “I just find you really interesting.”

Questions. This kid sure was full of them and boy did they come a mile a minute. He wasn’t going to answer all of them, at this rate Ren might as well could just write everything about his quirks down for him. As they walked he listened to Deku ramble on with the occasional stutter. He lulled his head to the side as music still blared through the one earbud still keeping him a little sane.
“My quirk can only calm people down, certain tempos can send even a large crowd to sleep. It works with other instruments but I just really like how playing the drums feels. And that is all I am going to answer for now, in the meantime you can just study me from afar if you really need more answers.”
He extended a drumstick toward the other and gently poked Deku’s flushed cheek with it. His embarrassment was quite laughable.
“You find me interestin’? Tryin’ to figure out if I got any weaknesses too?” He teased.

So a transfer student, huh? Transferred from where? He wants to ask, but he also doesn’t want to load the other with questions. He bites his tongue; That question will be saved for later, yes.
“What a coincidence!”, he claims. “I’m from class 3-A, we’re grade mates!”, he shakes his hand with energy. For a moment, the idea of giving Ren a weak electric shock pass through his mind, but he doesn’t do it; too soon. “Whaaa- really!? Would you do that for me!? That’s super nice of you, Moriyama! I would love to hear your playlist!”, he doesn’t realize that the other is being forcedly friendly because he is so clueless sometimes.

“Yeah...” Ren said slowly as he turned to continue to walk down the hall again, not caring if he was going to be followed by this bright-eyed boy. They were going in kind of the same direction anyway. He yawned softly as he did a few small tricks with a drumstick as he pulled his phone out to pick another song to ‘play’ along to.
He watched for Denki in the corner of his eye, maybe he did want to have a friend in the guy. There really was no harm in it after all. He laughed to himself as he remembered hearing about how his quirk could literally fry you. This made Ren wonder if an electric current could successfully electrocute a shadow. Man, that’d be a pretty cool thing to test out one day.

“Um… It’s the morning? Surely you realize that a hero has no rest hours?” Toshinori’s lion main turned to follow the boy as he walked past. “You seem rather upset Young Moriyama. Are you always so… frustrated?” He was trying to dance around the question, definitely not wanting to upset a student. My he was a large boy wasn’t he? Ren was going to make a great hero!
All Might couldn’t help but smile up at the young man. “you have the physique of a real hero young man!” He patted the other on the shoulder, “I can’t wait to see what you do.”
“Won’t you please try to have a nice day today?”

“Then surely I could be a hero of the night.” He challenged with a slight shrug. Honestly, his mood had to with his breakfast being ruined by not having all of the ingredients he needed to make it this morning. Running on an empty stomach was quite a dangerous thing for a growing boy like himself. Ren smirked at the thought as he looked over to All might when his shoulder was pat. This small form of a man was almost comical to look at.
“I’m all kinds of frustrated.” He said with a sharp grin as he leaned in a little closer. “A real hero, eh?”
Ren gave the teacher’s head a rough pat, it was almost affectionate but also a little painful. “We’ll see how nice my day is by lunch, yeah?”

half-of-a-hero:
Oh, this guy seemed oddly familiar right from the get go. Too young to be a pro….
“Yeah…. sorry.”
Drumming? Maybe something to do with his quirk? It stood out, at the very least. At least this stranger seemed pretty chill. If it’d been Bakugou he’d bumped into….. yikes. Shouto bowed slightly as a form of introduction. Might as well be acquainted with as many people as possible; he might be depending on them to watch his back as heroes one day. Not that he really needed any support.
“Todoroki Shouto. Third year.”
He rose a brow at Todorkoi’s response, short and to the point. This made him smirk as he resumed playing the air drums with is sticks. “S’whatever, man.” Ren rubbed a cheek against his shoulder as he turned around to continue to walk down the hall but only to stop dead in his tracks after hearing the boy introduce himself.
“I know who y’are.” He said through a small laugh, “Hell, the whole student body knows your name!”
It was kind of endearing that this kid would formally introduce himself to someone though. It knocked out any negative opinions he had heard of him. “Name’s, Moriyama Ren. Same year but a transfer from Shiketsu.”
He flicked the brim of his former school’s hat. It definitely something that wasn’t part of the U.A. dress code, to hell with it right?

His eyes watched the student and narrowed at his rudeness for underestimating him just because he was the General Studies teacher. His smile remind on his face as he shouted towards the teacher. “Don’t worry, I’ll be more then likely to see you in my class very soon if you keep this attitude up. I will look forward to teaching you when you lose your spot.” Yanai knew that the student’s shadow was moving to his because he was watching him. Since he was quirkless he kept a hawk eye on everyone so they wouldn’t get the upper hand on him just because he was powerless to stop them. Still, that didn’t mean he had no authority.
When Ren was out of sight the teacher hissed between his teeth when he tried to move and noticed that he couldn’t. Letting out a sigh he made a mental note to make sure to watch his shadow when around him. Anger was bubbling inside of him as he chewed on his lower lip, eyes were burning with rage. His vision was getting slightly blurry and his head was feeling even more light headed as he continued to try to move. He was feeling slightly sleeping and felt his eyelids getting heavier until he could move. Almost losing his balance the male grunted with shock as he rolled his eyes.
The feeling passed over him and he felt fine as he could move once more. A smirk escaped his lips as he turned heel heading towards the principal’s office. It was the student’s fault for estimating him and he was making sure he will not do it again.
He actually had nothing against the teacher but he wasn’t really in the mood to respect any form of authority. Ren would accept whatever consequences that would be given to him once the rest of faculty told Yanai his real name. For now all he wanted to do was sneak a smoke behind one of the school’s buildings, to blow off steam before he caused any real harm this early in the school year. His track record was never exactly perfect but he tested well in all what he needed to.
“Tch, threatenin’ my spot....” Ren hissed out when he reached his destination in a nice secluded spot on campus. He slammed his knuckles against the wall of the building he had decided to hide behind. This wasn’t how he wanted to start the year off but here he was thinking of how much this was going to disappoint his mentor and hero, Present Mic. Ren rested his forehead against the coolness of the concrete wall and let out a heavy breath as he traced a couple of small circles into the wall before retrieving a crumpled cigarette pack from his back pocket. His drumsticks clacked against each other as he fished around for his lighter.
Cigarette finally lit, Ren turned around and stared up at the cloudless sky as he slid down the wall to the grass beneath him. The fingers of his left hand idly picked at the grass. He didn’t want to be out here, alone, but what’s the point heading into first period with a hot head?
