so heartbreaking when denji says he wants to be makima’s dog. like yknow there’s the kneejerk reaction of oh he has lost everything but to denji, a dog is something you take care of, a dog is your best friend who will never leave you. so when he tells makima he wants to be her dog, it’s a plea for love, given the only way he understands it. but he and makima just have a fundamental disconnect in their world view, to her dogs are things that blindly obey you, they’re workers you can swap out and toy with as you please. when denji asks to be her dog to her it’s just a confirmation that she has won.
