Reading the news is not a moral obligation. Following people whose posts make you spiral is not a moral obligation.

I am more able to help people when I don't regularly read the news. I volunteer more. I go out early to go weed invasive species at a nature reserve. I have more capacity to support my friends and the people I care about.

I have more energy to work on this blog, for that matter. (Obviously I regularly read a lot of good news. Which I recommend. The rest of this post is about normal news, which highly rewards negative content.)

My girlfriend took me to a cafe the other morning and it was just the right weather to wear my giant coat. We found plenty of giant (!!!!!!) mushrooms on the walk down and several houses in a row with no Halloween decorations in their front yard sparing a single plastic skeleton on each (?). There were lots of crows. And black squirrels. I told her about Norse mythology and she told me about Persian mythology and we had maple drinks!!! My god!!!!! I am a RICH MAN!!

I was looking at a book of interesting teapots at the library and this guy fell on my head. There was nothing above me it could have fallen from. Unless it was taped to a very out of reach ceiling.
