Felt inspired. I don't know what about this drawing drew me in so much, but it did.

I don’t know what’s in the book “conflict is not abuse” but just hearing that title is a breath of fresh air looking back on that time Lily Orchard said Lapis was Peridots abuser because she grabbed her shoulder, spoke in a low tone, and then fled earth to escape fascism.
Especially because Peridot literally threw Lapis in jail for no goddamn reason, and kept her prisoner for months, under the orders of said fascists. So if you really insist on throwing the label of abuse around, arguably Peridot was Lapis’s abuser.
Like I can’t even make sense of how this even happened. Was it because Peridot acts nicer? That’s such a shallow understanding of it. Was it because framing Peridot as Lapis’s abuser would make the show look comparatively better because Peridot has to grovel to Lapis but Lapis doesn’t?
I don’t get it. I think it literally was just that this critic got overly upset about a handful of scenes and got so invested in her analysis of them that she ignored things that contradict it.
I must say, Steven Universe is a lot more enjoyable when you don't need to read through a heaping helping of Tumblr discourse about who's secretly abusing whom this week.

It’s like when people call it queerbaiting when their favorite gay ship never happened.
Okay, question: I’ve seen a few Arcane people talking about how Viktoe is asexual (yay!) as if it’s a homophobic thing. Like, somehow the way the creators went about it was as homophobic.
Can someone please explain why? Because making Viktor’s character asexual a) does not mean there can’t be a very intense romantic or QPR bond between him and Jayce, and b) asexuality existing is not automatically homophobic! Vi/Cait is one of the primary ships of the series and they’re shown to be sexual and loving and are given a happy ending (tho I still don’t feel like Caitlyn atoned enough for being a fascist dictator), so why on earth would someone think the creators of Arcane are homophobic?
I’m trying to stay open-minded about this and not jump to conclusions, but on the surface it seems like a very acephobic reaction from the fandom.

Vegans of tumblr, listen up. Harvesting agave in the quantities required so you dont have to eat honey is killing mexican long-nosed bats. They feed off the nectar and pollinate the plants. They need the agave. You want to help the environment? Go back to honey. Your liver and thyroid will thank you, as well. Agave is 90% fructose, which can cause a host of issues. Bye.

I respect that Evangelion genuinely made them beyond human comprehension by making the ending so batshit that you have no idea what they wanted by the end or how to regard them morally.
Also one of the eldritch beings was a geometric shape that doesn’t look alive but is moving and has a name, which is a not often seen take on the concept, that its incomprehensible because it doesn’t read as alive.
“eldritch horror beyond your comprehension” and it’s just a generic monster with tentacles and eyes

This is why they hate quiet quitting. Because it’s not a problem. Doing your job as you are expected is normal behavior. But if you only do what they make you do that reminds them that they are in fact making you do it.
There's this interesting phenomenon where when you're a child, or some other vulnerable minority dependent on a job for shelter, you are actually under duress almost constantly. You can't say "I don't want to work today," you cannot say "I don't want to do the dishes, actually," you cannot choose not to participate. In a lot of cases, the punishment is explicit. Your parents might yell at you. Your boss might fire you. But in other cases, it's implicit. The mood will sour. You lose leeway. People get mad at you. And that creates a really shitty environment where you're constantly being coerced to do things!
And here's the kicker; you're not allowed to acknowledge that. You cannot acknowledge that you are being coerced, you cannot acknowledge that your free will is not being respected, because that's punished too. Your boss insists that you act excited. Your parents punish you for acting surly. You are forced to fake enthusiastic consent, constantly. It's a fucking nightmare. Your hand is being forced, you do not have the option to say "no," and if you ever, for a second, try to acknowledge that, everyone acts like you're the aggressor.

Yeah, I’m thinking of you. You scrolling Tumblr to escape your country’s facism and cuddle in fictional characters who helped piece together your identity. You writing a novel that’s secretly a queer metaphor. You in Palestine, Ukraine, Russia, China, Singapore, and my beautiful Vietnam. You in red states and small towns that are swallowing you whole. You stuck in Church basements drowning in positive affirmations meant to change you. You on Grindr and Pornhub trying to be a man. You in a library picking up Flamer, Drama, and Nimona for the first time. You on Queering the Map venting a heartbreak. You kneeling and praying to something you don’t believe. You in the ground because the world was not kind, but you were. You in the chrysalis who deserves to emerge. You who are old and thought things would be better. You who are artists and you who are leaders and you who love and fuck and exude color and life.
I’m thinking of you.

So… the judgement of modest mouse is just wrong in my opinion, same for ghost.
Whole lotta red does have a weirdly dark sound to it, so I get the castlevania drug comparison. Like Beno’s beat has extreme “dark level in a video game” energy but remixed as a rap beat.
Gorillaz, that bit is extremely accurate.
System of a down’s thing, I also made that observation before. Like this describes most of their songs, with the silly goofy part followed by a very serious part. Like it’s literally just a song about pizza until the chorus chants “Need therapy, therapy, Advertising causes need”
Modest mouse, what the hell is that guy talking about? I tried to hear the garden hose running sound and I really couldn’t.
Beastie boys, obvious. Of course they sound like that. It’s the one thing everyone notices about them.
I’m done putting in effort into this post so whatevs.
i feel these needed to be compiled. feel free to add more genre related posts in the notes if you want

Do migraines count? Apparently doctors don’t believe migraines are migraines, calling them tension headaches instead, and i’ve never had a doctor confirm my migraines are migraines. Is that self-diagnosis?
have you ever self-diagnosed?

Fun fact dark eye color comes from melanin. If you have blue eyes you’re probably white. It is literally impossible for Iridology to not be racist.
There’s a building near the hostel I’m at rn that says “iridology is the new astrology,” and appears to be a spiritual/medical practice (??) that diagnoses you (???) based on eye color (????!). Anyway to be fair. Your eye color and your star sign DO have an equal effect on your personality (It’s just that the effect is zilch). So at least the slogan is apt.
But yeah when someone introduces themselves with their star sign or admits to believing in astrology I lose a bit of respect for them that can’t be gained back.
oh okay. this is. that's. okay.
I hate you alternative medicine I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you I hate you
