The same artist made these two 35 years apart:

1750s Henry Robert Morland (British artist, 1716-1797) A Girl Ironing Shirt Sleeves

1785 Henry Robert Morland (British artist, 1716-1797) Laundry Maid Ironing
WHICH IS SO COOL and also shows the change of fashion.

— che guevara video game
in 1987, japanese software company SNK released guevara, an arcade turned NES game based on the cuban revolution. in the original version, players assume the roles of che guevara and fidel castro as they wage guerrilla warfare against fulgencio batista’s army in the sierra maestra.
in order to market the game in america, SNK released a highly edited version re-titled guerrilla war in 1989. while the american version plays identically to the japanese version, all explicit references to the cuban revolution are redacted. guevara and castro become “player 1” and “player 2,” the word cuba is at times totally eliminated or replaced with “caribbean island,” and all direct mentions of batista are swapped out for the generic “leader” or “dictator.”
over 30 years later, the cuban revolution continues to occupy a contentious space in american video games. in 2010, call of duty: black ops featured a level set during the bay of pigs invasion in which the player, fighting beside CIA backed forces in what can only be described as a comically anachronistic version of events, is tasked with shooting a cartoonishly evil fidel castro in the head. later, the player discovers the castro they shot was actually a body double. at the time of the game’s release, castro was still alive and serving as first secretary of cuba’s communist party.
