i hate to be that guy, but the idea that gender, sex, and sexuality are ontologically pure concepts that can be rigidly defined if we simply police our language enough (our english language, because of course) is—i cannot stress this enough—a total waste of time. you may as well spend your afternoons teaching a brick how to swim

I saw a fleeting glimpse of a post about fancasting the rat grinders but tumblr refreshed and the post disappeared but I made my fancast anyway
Kipperlily - Vic Michaelis. Would bring the same rancid vibes (complimentary) to the role as they have to the role of Vic Michaelis on VIP.
Ruben - Zach Reino. Does Zach even play D&D? Regardless, their ability to bring little bitch boy energy in PIBE make them perfect for this role. Plus imagine the terrible emo songs Zach would make up. (Alternatively: Brian David Gilbert, who would lean into the unhinged chasing after Wanda Childa energy more.)
Ivy - Izzy Roland. No one does socially intimidating better than Izzy.
Oisin - Jake Hurwitz. I may have a soft spot for Oisin. But I think Jake would bring a "just a good guy" energy that would add layers of complexity to the character. Bonus: it would be hilarious for Jake "how many times can I get away with playing a fighter" Hurwitz to play a wizard.
Mary Ann - Rekha Shankar. Socially intimidating but in a different way to Ivy/Izzy, Rekha's Mary Ann would be sooo frustrating and absolutely make Gorgug fly into a rage.
Buddy - Caldwell Tanner. In many ways Buddy is just Beverley Toegold V with more religious trauma and less touching of hands.
Lucy - Surena Marie. Sweet on the outside but with a solid, steely, unshakeable core, and impossible to dislike. Also I just want more Surena.

In general I think the backlash against hipster art snobbery was well deserved, but I really do need people who are devoted fans of extremely popular mass market art to accept that they have not been the underdog by any definition for at least ten years.
I don't care that seeing people saying that Taylor Swift's new album is mid transports you back to the feeling you had as a college freshman when the cool kids sneered at you for having basic taste. You're 34 and iheartradio is playing her albums on loop. You won. You don't get to complain.

I feel like we, as a society, are sleeping on how funny Sklonda Gukgak is as a character. yes, yes, she's amazing and heartbreaking and I would die for her. we all know it. let's talk about how she is objectively fucking hilarious.
she's a single mom. she instituted a minimum four hour nightly sleep for her son, completely ignoring the fact that her son got his sleep and coffee habits from her. she took a hard left from police work into public defense, but kept her gun and goes to active crime scenes with her son and his friend. they mentioned one (1) time that she was dating a devil who is easily ten times the size of her entire body. this fact is never brought up again. she loves her son's friends, but does not like or trust any of them. despite this, she 100% went on vacation with them and all their parents. she laments her son's relentless and self-destructive work ethic right before conking out on the kitchen table at 3am. she helped her kid eat a dragon.
this woman is as feral as they come. she's hilarious. I adore her. 11/10, Brennan. no notes.

I don’t know if any non-Jews noticed this in the last d20 ep but Brennan has changed how he refers to Gulsum, the Mordred Manor real estate guy, from golem to construct! When Gulsum was first referenced in sophomore year he was called a flesh golem, but in junior year he has been called a flesh construct. In episode 12 of FHJY Brennan even made sure to correct himself when he misspoke and said golem instead of construct, which proved to me this was an active effort on his part.
The term golem comes from Jewish mysticism and has religious connotations so some Jewish people find it offensive when the term gets co-opted into fantasy settings without regard for the original source. It’s cool to see Brennan moving away from that and trying to find less loaded terms to use instead, like construct.

Maybe unpopular opinion but I actually don't think it's necessarily bad that Jawbone and Sandralynne don't treat Kristen as their daughter the same way they do Adaine. Adaine killed one of her parents, exiled the other and fully embraced Jawbone as her new parent. Kristen is still trying to navigate a relationship with her birth parents.
Not everyone who's estranged from their family of origin wants to be immediately folded into a replacement family. Many people are in fact still working through a lot of stuff related to the concept of family and need space to figure it out. MANY people find the "we're your parents now!" routine to be a massively unwelcome overstep.
I personally have seen no evidence that Kristen wants Jawbone and Sandralynne to adopt her the way they have adopted Adaine. It is in fact very likely that "some competent and chill adults you can live with, no pressure" is exactly what she wants and needs from them.

Ok so not sure what kind of counselor you are, but I just finished my first year of my school counseling masters. And Jawbone is definitely not ASCA. I'm curious what your thoughts are on the kind of counselor he is? I could write an analysis of making a comprehensive school counseling program for Aguefort
Honestly I just do not think the world of Spyre has the kind of professional licensing structure that we have in the real world. I don't think most of the teachers have any kind of credential and Jawbone was hired with none. The best real-life analogue for Jawbone would be a peer support worker, since his main source of credibility is that he has been through a lot of shit himself. In real life, you'd probably see a guy like Jawbone doing peer support at a recovery program for addicts or adults with serious mental illness. Never in a million years would you see him at a school. But that's the magic of fantasy.

between tiktok and youtube slop, kids these days are subjected to possibly one of the worst media diets in the history of mankind. unlike me who was raised on the same 10 commercials for corn syrup products cycling between variety shows, as nature intended

unsung benefit i think a lot of ppl are sleeping on with using the public library is that i think its a great replacement for the dopamine hit some ppl get from online shopping. it kind of fills that niche of reserving something that you then get to anticipate the arrival of and enjoy when it arrives, but without like, the waste and the money.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

Hmmm a rage god taking advantage of emotionally unstable children who don't feel special and have a very skewed idea of what is and isn't "fair." The final villain of this season is basically the YouTube algorithm and I love it.
