the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

I finished reading Never Let Me Go and it left me feeling so empty inside.

(spoiler warning)

The way Kathy has so much love in her heart but nothing left of her own but her memories. The way you watch her and her friends grow, watch how they fight and joke and bicker and look out for each other. The way their humanity is so prevalent, yet they’re the only ones who see each other as human. How they have so much to fight for, yet never think to fight for it at all because this is all they know. How even in their wildest dreams, even in the one time they try for something that could save them, it is still only a temporary deferral. How even that was never in the cards for them. How even in the end, when Kathy returns to Norfolk, everyone who accompanied her before dead, nothing will change for her. She will end up like the rest of her classmates and friends, as she drives off to wherever it is she’s supposed to be. How they all loved each other so much, and it mattered, and Kathy will always hold onto it, but it wasn’t enough to keep them together. FUCK

the things that we've been forced to manage through crowdfunding websites are insane. victims of a genocide are having to market themselves as someone who is worthy of being saved.

living for more than a year under an active genocide while seeing your oppressors cruelty and disregard for your life increase is so horrendous.

every single person in gaza has lost too much. i don't think everyone must have to share their personal loss in order to be deemed as a person worthy of safety. i think we should try to help those we can see asking for it.
