I love how they use angles to contrast the dynamics between the parents and children in each household in their very first one on one interactions.

There's a huge power distance between Karen and Mike. He's ignoring her calls and she's ignoring his pleas for more time.

Joyce is treating Jonathan as her parenting partner, when he's a child himself. He's in the kitchen making breakfast, keeping track of her keys, working jobs, expected to get Will ready for school, supporting her when Will goes missing.

There's less of a gap between Karen and Nancy and they're meeting in the middle, but the power dynamics aren't even either. Karen wants to connect, but is struggling.

And both Joyce and Jonathan bring themselves down to meet Will where he is, which is pretty darn cute.

Cannot recommend highly enough watching the van scene in French.

Noah plays the "yeah" at the end like Will's channeling all of his energy into holding his shit together, but Tom (the French voice actor) doesn't quite let Will succeed. Slices my heart clean in two every time. 👍
