Just finished and delivered this 3rd year wedding anniversary gift tonight. Handmade wooden distressed frame, with stamped leather piece suspended with cotton rope. The leather piece has her first name on top, his on the bottom, the middle was split into three strips with each last name on the outside and the wedding date in the middle. The strips with the last names were formed to meet under the wedding date to signify the union of two families. This is the first Christmas without both of you, it has a strange emptiness about it. No Christmas cigars with Dad on the porch at the farm, no biscuits and gravy with Mom Christmas morning. It’s hard, but I was surrounded by family and friends this evening and we laughed, ate food, and opened gifts and, somehow, I still feel so blessed. So maybe it’s not empty, maybe it’s just different. My memories of both of you have become more vivid than they have ever been, and for that I’m grateful. So tonight, I toast to to Mom and remember her laugh and incredible spirit, and I smoke a cigar for Dad and remember his terrible jokes and joyous demeanor. They have guided me throughout my entire life and always been my biggest supporters, but their passing has shown me how truly amazing both of them were as people and as parents, and have given me direction towards the kind of man I want to be. I guess that’s as good a Christmas gift as one could ask for. Merry Christmas everyone!
