(H) 341-448: The Importance Of Being Beautiful
Entry #41
11/14/19
The importance of social stratification has been considered one of the most important values as we try to find ourselves ranked accordingly to the extensive research of person perception. The many ways which we identify ourselves a attractive affects us. Even the way we gain a offering within job or a promotion is highly based on your appearance. In Chapter 29 The Importance Of Being Beautiful really signifies how Sidney Katz, a sociologist at the University Of Toronto is able to indentify the significant points of how the ranking scale can have a high consequence within our life.
A beautiful person’s attribute can highly be a phenomenon as sociology has deemed it as the halo effect. The halo effect defies human reason as Dion provide significant analysis by identifying 243 female university students with the ideantical detailed description as they identified several photos of children who are rated higher than their counterparts. Overall, the same standards are just as high as it can also be applied to adults who are beautiful and innocent.
In addition to these findings, David Humphrey, a Ontario criminal lawyer stated that if there was a beautiful woman on trial then you have to show the judge and jury a movie that justifies her crime. This is highly important as the halo and horns effect often plays an important role when it comes to sentencing an individual on court. This can be placed deeper as society today is very keen to identify whether who is able to be within the top of person perception while the overall majority is at their lowest.
This experience can be connected to the world as the social appearance of a individual really values if you are able to succeed in life. That’s why we tend to use plastic surgery in order to minimize the flaws that we have in our face and replace it with a more perfect canvas.

(H) 192-198: Tannen, But What Do You Mean?
Entry #40
11/12/19
Social interactions between men and women is the way we manage our ideas across to one another. However, the communications across gender lines can be difficult as women represents the distinct worlds of socialization to which it frequently applies from the ideals of sex and love. In Chapter 17 pages 192 through 198 “But What Do You Mean?” Women and Men in Conversation relies on the literal meaning of our words more than anything. Difficulties that come between these two groups is that they have different ideas about what is appropriate and how to speak it, resulting in a disadvantage as women often told that they apologize too much but once they show both parties actively sharing the blame it really shows that monitoring your sense of speech is based on the reactions you will get.
One of the 7 types of ways that conversation is really important is how you execute it within a daily basis. Apologies, Criticism, Thank-Yous, Fighting, Praise, Complaints, and Jokes are the most basic ways that not only men and women rely on but based upon the conversations of the early days, was fairly important. In order to further our understanding about this chapter we need to ask ourselves why this 7 types of ways within a conversation fairly important and the ways to indentify is through the ways society interacts everyday. Noticing the type of conversations that individuals talk about we can know that some of its way have not yet changed as women are constantly apologizing while men are still keen to fighting.
This can be connected towards myself is because us women don’t change the ways we converse to one another because I myself personally always apologize within a daily basis about the simplest problems that were ever to happen due to my soft agenda and personality. This can also be heavily applied to who I tend to converse with as I can use the 7 types of roles in my category.

(H) 173-179: Eder, On Becoming Female
Entry #39
11/11/19
Attractiveness has been a part of the construction of femininity for many years, among American woman, many more of its constructive aspects heavily relies upon the main areas in which women are hindered by stereotypical notions. In Chapter 15, On Becoming Female: Lessons Learned in School, Woodview middle school has been one of the most major concerns due to the promotion of attractiveness and how it relies upon high-status activity such as cheer leading. This message is a way to convey the essence of cheerleaders within a team with support.
Studies show that the appearance they will be gaining emphasizes their neatness due to the physical tryouts that they have to endure daily. However, we noticed that among the selective girls who are chosen, the girls who were considered as overweight were selected which the group which brings out the question of why dieting yourself is recommended to which they stated that preserving the thinness of a cheerleader is the important aspect of a cheerleaders appearance.
Not only was this effecting the females but the males as well have to go through tough times in order to maintain a body that can be sexually appealing to the public eye. These standard of beauty is a main focus due to the judgement of the peers around you. In order to deep further into this, we need to ask why society itself values more about the way we are shaped and it goes back from the past where the booming economy of different styles of faces, fashion, and hair is the main aspect of a male and female category as they take plenty of their time to make themselves presentable.
This is be connected to the world because us as a society are constantly demanding of the same body type that has been a given icon for many years without looking at the prospect of different body types that are highly different and unique. I myself have been through that type of situation as I was always deemed as fat or way to skinny by society but appreciating yourself more is more important.

JCB Chapter 11: Beauty/Ideology and Intersectionality
Entry #38
11/9/19
Beauty, one of the most influential categories that is constantly growing and improving as different types of skincare, and trends are always available every year. While all of these are true, how do we define beautiful and attractive within a person? The idea of an ideal body type has been very implemented within society as we look critically towards a person's gender, race, and body size. In JCB Chapter 11, the chapter aims to show how the ideals of physical appearance are sociologically complex, as women are more pressured to put themselves into this situation. Beauty is a socially constructed ideal that is contemporary focused on the labels of beautiful, handsome, hot, and sexy. Sociologist Liza drew her attention to the significance of high heels as it's been culturally accepted to be sexy and feminine.
Appreciating this power of social construction impacts our lives. Society as a whole can control the types of ideals we individuals have. For example, skin lightening products have been in popular demand as it is culturally impact to have a lighter skin tone. To deep down into this chapter, we need to ask ourselves why we risk our lives to be appreciated within society? One of the answers is that we want the attention to be solely focused on the individual to find some sort of appreciation that we don't have daily as confidence and power is very important to others.
This chapter can be experienced within myself as it’s fairly difficult for society to consider me as beautiful, hot, e.t.c. However, when there’s a impact to when a person compliments you gives you a sort of appreciation towards myself as It  gives me confidence about myself. Beauty alone is one of the most crucial things for me to think within a daily basis as it really gets into the back of your head everyday.

JCB Chapter 7: Toys/Gender, Sex and Sexuality
Entry #37
11/8/19
To explore socialization within gender, the concept of sex, gender, roles, gender identity, doing gender, and sexism reveals the ideals of gender and parenting. In JCB Chapter 7, sociologist Christine Williams decided to go undercover due to the extent of gender conformity when selecting toys to which she reflects about the different kinds of items that are associated with boys and girls. Surprisingly, we tend to categorize infants according to two sex to which we ask ourselves, why would we categorize two genders with the opposing kind of color scheme within the public eye? One of the most basic answers is that gender identity is involved with the false idea that all people fit neatly into one of two sex categories without having to think more about the types of sexuality there are with different individuals.
The key parts to socialization are the norms and behaviors that are considered appropriate for women and men in a particular and historical context. Compared to different roles within the world, more feminine genders are more inclined to do the nurturing role while masculine genders have more power over the women. However, these ideals are still associated today as socialization is still performed and practiced. To examine this further, we can compare this to the rich and poor, to which we noticed that middle-class parents deliberately mold their children through controlled interventions to enhance their social skills while working parents put their children in charge of themselves for them to develop naturally.
This chapter can be solely related to world events because the type of gender that we get from either a pregnancy surprise really determines the child’s socialization within society as a whole. Experiencing the different types of roles that you have been assigned as a child really shows that by the time when you grow, the types of toys you use is fairly influential for young children to understand the roles that they have been placed.

Mandatory Blog Post: Socialized Into My Gender
Entry #36 11/6/19
One of the incidents that regarded my socialization with gender norms was within my childhood years as a baby. Within my hometown, we value socialization among many things as plenty of individuals get socialized from within the public, to the household that we live in. As a baby, I never had the chance to grow a set of hair to which others declare me as male. However, once my mother started to give me a more feminine style in my wardrobe like dresses, blouses, and colorful bright pink headbands, it took a different approach to what others thought of me is because I'm wearing more clothing that is highly associated with females.
Diving deep further into this blog we as a society value socialization more than anything is due to the highly anticipated question whether or not it's a boy or a girl and it gives me a sense of thought, why do we socialize ourselves from what we wear to the type of persona you have? why do we consider plenty of the daily items that we use in a daily basis socialized so easy? One of the benefiting answers from is that socialization prepares individuals to participate in a group by illustrating the kind of expectations that they offer, regardless if its from the public eye.

Required Entry: JCB p. 330 Counting Beauty
Entry #35
11/5/19
While conducting this analysis on the systematic account of beauty, race, gender, ethnicity, and skin tone can be closely related to how men are depicted compared to women. Looking up images within a health magazine, I noticed that men are mainly dominating the front cover, compared to women who are non-socially influenced. Health magazines these days are most important with male counterparts in society. However, what I quickly noticed is the diversity of races as ethnicities like Asian, Latino, Black, and White are present from any given time.
Counting on how much individuals gain visible body fat, I saw that not only they were very skinny and buff, but the visible body fat that they have is not that visible. Due to it being a health magazine, they increasingly depict the dream of having the perfect body, which is common in society as they will risk their lives to have an ideal body that they yet don't have.
In conclusion, this mini-content analysis really shows what kind of values society wants in order to very acceptable towards a certain type of group. Diversity can be fairly positive as it showcases different colors of different individuals. This entry can be connected to the world is because males are more dominating in influencing others compared to their female counterparts.

Required Entry: JCB p. 207 Toy Store Observation
Entry #34
11/4/19
While visiting a local toy store, I noticed fairly quickly that the two sections are very organized with the color blue and pink. Knowing fully well that these two colors symbolize the gender roles of males and females, I decided to look further to see that males, in general, have toys that resemble strong male heroes such as Batman, Superman, and Captain America, as well as plenty of toys such as Nerf guns and toy trucks. On the female's side, they have toys such as Barbie Dolls, Makeup, and Baby Kits to expose them to a woman’s lifestyle when they turn into a mature adult.
I can easily notice how toys are targeted is due to the types of gender roles that are portrayed within both male and female genders. In general, males are often associated on items that will boost their confidence and learn more about male jobs like technicians, construction workers, e.t.c. while females are more exposed to matures themes such as motherhood and female jobs such as nurses, models, e.t.c.
Any toys that were deemed as gender neutral were merely toys like clay and chalk since it didn’t specifically point towards any sort of gender type roles in both males and females. Overall, toy stores in general are always separated when it comes to being a boy or girl as society deems it that way. This is also very much applied to any world experiences because the gender that you are born with will specifically give you the types of items you need in order to expose you at a young age.

(JCB) Chapter 12: Music/Racism and Cultural Appropriation
Entry #33
10/30/19
Music has been one of the most popular categories amongst Millennials and boomers alike as they listen to it daily. Chapter 12 of Music/Racism and Cultural Appropriation, Music is involved with sociological importance and cultural survival for racism and commodity. We like to think of music as an art, as it can express feelings and emotions towards the audience. Symbolism and Expressions show us the different ways to express our tastes about what is good or bad as it draws symbolic boundaries among social groups across the nation.
There are various types of listeners ranging from electronic, hip-hop, and country to which they use social media to interact about the type of music they enjoy. Although the different taste in music is still common, it can be a significant commodity in culture. The music industry has been the largest technological change in digital downloading and streaming. According to the graph taken by The Atlantic, music sales rose from 0.3% in 2012. This form of revenue shows us what digital downloading can do.
Lastly, the reason why music is an important sociological change is due to the form of political expression it gives. Many protests marry music with a message that includes slavery, women's rights, environmentalism, poverty, war, and police violence. In order to further understand more about music, we need to ask ourselves why music is very influential in today’s culture? One of the much regarded answers is that music itself has been very expanded when it comes to different forms of categories.
Without the form of music, we can’t express what kind of feelings we express in the public. Due to the high news alerts that affects a community or city, music helps other’s connect and get other at a time of need. This can also be related to world experiences because music can closely relate to expression. One of the examples is the Manchester Bombing. This event was tragic as other’s decided to get together in one concert to pay respect for those who had fallen.

(JCB) Chapter 6: Sports/Race (Omit Section 4. 164-169)
Entry #32
10/29/19
Social Norms and Laws have longed been a meaning of codified and unwritten rules approved by the governing authority. Breaking any of these norms can be punished informally, giving a bad image about who you are as an individual. Within sports, they have their own sets of rules, both informal and formal, for conducting concepts of deviance. Expectations of formal laws happen when people break them. Applying this to sports, they can overlap the norms that apply within social life.
The overlap of athletic competition between the rules that govern collective society must follow the structure of participation within sports. Precise rules are true about strict actions. However, rules can often be broken with sports like soccer and hockey. Not every rule is intentional as social control regulates people's behavior and group expectations.
Going deeper into the initial chapter, we need to ask ourselves “why can’t equality be similar to all racial differences? Especially in certain types of sports?”. The difable answer to that solution is that we can’t. Bounded by societies rules and privileges, it isn’t an easy task when fitting in a society where White-Americans are more approved to be successful compared to their race-colored types. Due to previous historical events, many colored individuals have been treated poorly due to the color of their skin.
This can be connected to the world due to the booming economy of the sports system, many colored individuals are becoming very diverse when it comes to all types of sports such as football, soccer, basketball, e.t.c. You really can’t disregard that if there’s racial faces in sports entertainment, many backlash and drama comes within it.

(H) 369 - 375: Ezekiel, The Racist Mind
Entry #31
10/28/19
The decrease in racism overall has extensively shaped the United States' point of regarding the faces of the past. As the era moves on, racial-ethnic integration of today's society is far from complete. Racial differences among the color of a person's skin are still factors within hate-centered groups that have long been diminished. Raphael Ezekiel who is a professor of psychology help attained these types of minority groups by observing and interviewing the group of a white racist. White racists in the world among predominant white Americans and nonwhite Americans are treated in interactions. The race is a powerful conduct to understand human genetics.
The militant movement keeps these ideals true by ensuring that individuals should stand vulnerable to parties who use racism to capture the public. As Ezekiel interviewed different followers and leaders, he dealt with open and honest answers about his Jewish religion. However, he soon noticed the intense backlash of how his religion came to act with the hate-centered groups of Neo-Nazis as they try to provoke him.
These organized white racists are one of the most biological significance in society as they reflect emotion and experiences. Seeing the point of view coming from Ezekiel shows us that real individuals get hurt tremendously by society due to racism. As we deep further into this chapter, we need to ask ourselves why we regard the shade of a person color. The only acceptable answer that pops into the minds of other’s is due to past relations. Individuals can’t stop racism within the past is due to trauma and and negative attacks of the different colors of skin.
This can be related to the world because during the past, many individuals are mostly used to keeping their social circle with the same color of friends, but if any different cultures come to diverse they will tend to shed their opinions in the world which can aggravate other’s. As of today, we still consider that as a basic factor of many attacks.

(H) 360 - 368: Page, Showing My Color
Entry #31
10/27/19
The decline of racism in the United States has undoubtedly shaped so much compared to past events where predominant white Americans are more privileged towards all superior powers, which contrasts our background factors and orientations to life. Indulging in one's point of view can be a learning experience for the world around us. A journalist by the name of Clarence Page gives us a better insight into what he learned when he lived in a socially constructed white society.
Segregation sets us apart from most individuals due to the teachings that our parents have taught us. For Page, he had to differentiate the separated places where colored faces were mostly acceptable to be themselves out of the naked eyes of society. His insight gives us intricate imagery of one's color as he states that showing color can be displayed as a stereotype of how the black people behaved.
Mentioning the racial pride and color consciousness of American life, we cannot steer clear of the fact that color determines our life chances and opportunities. Today, many of our minorities in the United States are composed of children who come from the low socioeconomic background of society, to which many of our colored races are effectively interacting with people of culture. In order to dive deeper within our understanding we must acknowledge the fact why racism was socially diverse among older individuals.
We can’t just stop society and deem ourselves to be socially predominant among white Americans because it’ll be unacceptable, especially in an era where two racial colors have been divided in order to differentiate the contrast of who is socially acceptable and who isn’t. This can very much be connected to the world because of all the backlash people of color are getting in the social interactions that we call the internet.

Required Entry (Blog Entry On Race)
Entry #30
10/26/19
To understand race, we must learn it’s definition. Race is a group of individuals who share biological characteristics to which is deemed socially significant. Race is more socially constructed as it mainly focuses on characteristics such as skin, eye color, hair color, and facial structure.
However, most different races have minor differences in morphology, which is a branch of biology dealing with the form and structure of animals and plants and in genetics. While we understand more about race in the following questions that we offered we noticed that the individuals that managed to answer the questions were quite conflicted about their race as they never really had an early message that they receive about their race in general.
What it means to be socially constructed is the idea that individuals can measure reality on what they perceive it to be in their traditions. In order words, it's more of an understanding within the world that we live from that forms the basis for shared assumptions in reality. Race itself is socially constructed because we form the basis of what we think is reality in order to process it forwards towards the next generation.

Mandotory Blog Post
Entry #29
10/25/19
After the exercise that I participated in, I had plenty of reactions when it comes to the different types of categories that we had to move across. One specific one that stood out the most was immigration and sexuality. Immigration has been one of the most personal factors when it comes to different types of individuals. Having a parent who is a legalized immigrant gives plenty of factors to consider, especially the challenges that they had to face when becoming a part of a different country.
Secondly, one of the most personal categories that stood out was a sexual orientation question. Growing up, I faced plenty of challenges when it comes to finding who I am. Having the support of my friends and family gave me confidence when it comes to acknowledging my sexuality to others. When I walked across the corner, I felt very nervous because I was going to be judged and looked at by my peers. But talking to a former classmate of mine, it made me open to talking about my story.
What I noticed was the sheer amount of fewer individuals who have blood-related traits of native Indians, as well as different religions when it comes to being jew. Eventually, one of the categories that stood out the most move across if you were a child to which everyone moved. This really made me very surprised as Professor Mersmann told us that within the different classes that he lectures, some individuals didn’t move because they didn’t feel like a child due to the rough past that they had.

(H) 376-382: Gans, The Uses of Poverty
Entry #28
10/20/19
Poverty has been one of the most common occurrences in the United States as it makes up most of the majority in population compared to 20% of upper-class individuals. This type of state that we are in can have a deeper meaning when it comes to observing the troubled lives that can affect the way society functions daily. In down To Earth Sociology, Introductory Readings pages 395 through 406, a sociologist by the name of Herbert J. Gans concluded that due to the poor vital services that lower-class individuals earn. They can also have a down experience when it comes to dropping out of school, getting in trouble with the law, and getting victimized with violent crimes. However, while most of these are facts, he presented his analysis of how lower-classes are among the lowest values of society as they perform very vital functions to benefit parts of society.
While most are facts, we need to think about the different types of ways poverty is a social phenomenon, one of which is the functions of poverty. The existent ways that define poverty can be dirty work as they have no other choice but to work with low wages. Poverty-stricken individuals are required to work at low wages due to the variety of economic activities that benefit the affluent. Due to these types of ways, the poor pay a higher quantity with their income in property and sales taxes, along with medical practice. Also with these types of functions, low-class individuals purchase goods that others do not want, which prolongs economic usefulness.
These key types are important because it gives us key insights of the benefits that poverty has to offer, along with the negatives. As we deep down further into the chapter I thought to myself why these types of functions exist in only the lower-class individuals compared to the social upper-classes in the United States and one answer that determines that factor is how society is today. Since the upper-class benefit themselves from helping the poor, they need to be able to benefit not only the two other social classes but the economy itself. We can’t really break the cycle of these types of activities because once we stop a system that is run for a very long time, it’ll be quite difficult for us to find different types of ways to fulfill the economic system.
This experience can be comparable with the outside world due to the ways poverty-stricken individuals are doing the dirty work in order to function the two different types of classes in the economic system but to make sure that the society is functioning because without poverty, the economy won’t run smoothly without it.

(H) 395-406: Higley, The U.S. Upper Class
Entry #27
10/19/19
Social Register, a directory of prominent figures in a society of a given area. Restricting social intercourse from within members acts as a reference from who is capable and incapable of being accepted into society. Social Register, however, is more socially related to the upper class's complete system of socialization. Down To Earth Sociology, Introductory Readings pages 395 through 406, they explain Social Inequality receive more of their society's goods and services compared to others. Stephen Higley, a professor of geography expands more on how Social Register is more than capable of understanding how upper-classes derive from the common fate.
Examining furthermore within the chapter, we notice that ethnic and religious characteristics are more confined as social and generalization is generally becoming more accepted within the upper class. WASP culture is a derivation of English nobility which influences the American upper-class today due to the values and roles the upper-class is transmitting to the rest of American society. As a large number of arrangements occur more within the upper-class, they only have less of a significant contact that they have with other social classes.
If we dig deeper into the chapter we need to understand why Social Register is more important among the upper-class compared to the middle-class and the lower-class of society. We can’t just assume that we individuals are capable of having this kind of privilege due to the way our social class places us firsthand. The only remaining factor that can be considered is what social class where we were born in. If you are considered among the top 20% if the population of upper-class individuals then you are able to have free access towards Social Register, compared to the low 20% of individuals that are currently living in the United States.
This can be connected to the world of how the way the U.S. is today. Seeing that the upper-class today value more of their roles and generalization, we see that they are born with more privilege compared to half of the population. Having been born without upper-class reforms, it's more difficult to have this capable access with privilege and roles because we need to work harder in order to gain that type of effort.

(JCB) Chapter 4: Coffee/Class
Entry #26
10/17/19
Social class is a division of a society based on social and economic status. Largely based on socioeconomic status that considers a person's income, education, and occupation. We think ourselves as either lower-class, middle-class, and upper-class, Introducing Sociology Using The Stuff Of Everyday Life: Chapter 4, they introduce us to how consumers connect to our social class as they distinguish some groups from the others.
Comparing our social class with coffee consumption can examine the social aspects of our taste. Individuals who have a remarkable taste preference can speak volumes of what they consume regularly. How Consumption Conveys Class and Status, they emphasize more about the observations between social classes by seeing how they consume different kinds of things in different ways. Knowing that a middle-class status is not related to the parent's income, education, and lifestyle habits make it more of an advantage later life.
Another advantage of social classes comes from the popularity of celebrities. Given that social media has been very popular among millennial's today, the rapid access to consumption habits has been increasing drastically. High-status items are certainly easy an economic capital. This really connects personally to myself because seeing different social classes consuming different types of items that benefit themselves really shows how society is based more on the status that you are in.
