New Zealand is based upon multiple volcanos throughout the two islands with over 50 scattered across the Auckland City. The idea is to incorporate the concept of hardened lava throughout the bath house design to give the feeling of being in an enclosed natural space for healing and relaxational purposes. The design brings together two natural elements of fire and water and blends them together to create an experience that can only be found within the lava spring dome. Natural spring waters that can be seen through illumination at night and natural sunlight by day flows throughout the ground floor space, downwards into the walls of the underground lava platform and then into the pool area. The pool shape which was created from the formations of hardened lava is filled with exposed lava rock at the bottom that is illuminated underneath the natural spring water pool. The pool of water is then heated by the idea of magma that is still underneath the ground. This interrelationship of lava and water forms a union of harmony, relaxation, peace and tranquillity to ease the mind, soul and body.

I have started working on ground floor layer which is an idea that water will be flowing throughout the floor and down into the underground level into the pool. I created this by using a thin sheet of plastic and playing a layer clay on the plastic. I created grooves within the clay using a rounded end point tool and added the square holes for the pillars. I let it harden and then added the spray ink. I then used a hot glue gun and filled in the grooves to give a representation of water flow.

After my first experiment with using ink spray on the oreo lava I have moved forward to applying patches of this onto the base of the underground and will add more to emphasize on the heated lava aspect

I have made the wall that will be used underground for the changing rooms and shower and rest room area. Obhave also created the pillars that will be used on the ground floor and 1 large pillar that will be used in the underground floor. I coated them with black spray paint and sprinkled them with spray ink which would in real life be a source of light

I have finally finished applying all of the lava to my model. This took quite a lot of time but it looks good and I am feeling satisfied. There is still quite a lot that need to be done. I added another wall layer above the base of the pool which will be where the water is held

I have added the lava layer around the stair case on the ground floor to show that the lava flowed downwards to create the staircase

I have finished createding the base layer for my pool. I have found some concrete rock in my backyard and glued them in. But I first added the fairy lights which I had by wrapping it throughout the pool base structure which will be used to illuminate the "natural lava rocks" underneath the swimming pool. I also spray painted the base black. I then used a thin film of soft plastic that I cut out to place over the base structure. I was originally going to use a thin sheet of hard plastic but was unable to get this in lockdown.

I am testing an experiment by applying some colored ink spray onto the lava. I'm curious to see how it will turn out because I want to bring a form of color into the project.

An update on the base layout of my design. I have added in the staircase by using watercoloured paper, thick cardboard , oreo lava layer and used a pencil to carve out the stairs of the layered lava

Now for the base of the platform. I must say I am actually glad I have used the ores to represent the hardened lava. It is turning out much better than I had expected and is sticking quite well on the cardboard. The color and texture is exactly what I had in mind when I started this project 馃榿

Due to the fact that we have gone into lock down , I am now limited with the material that I can use in my project . I will use things around the house and what ever else I can find to make this project work. For this reason, I have decided to continue using oreos and glue as my lava.
I have now created the platforms that will go into the pool. The platforms are used to rest upon and dangle your feet in the water. The smaller one is an idea that lava dripped down and created a raised platform. Which can be used to stand on in the pool for effect.
