your eyebrows furrowed in concentration as you furiously typed away at your keyboard. it was already 1 in the morning yet you were only halfway through your lecture slides. you weren’t exactly sure when was the last time your body had left the room, let alone the chair you were sitting on but you sure as hell knew that you weren’t going to get any form of sleep or rest for the next few hours. suddenly, you heard a knock at your door.
“y/n-ah, you’re still awake?” chan mumbled through his grogginess as he had one hand on the door knob and the other rubbing his half-lidded eyes.
your mind preoccupied with the task at hand coupled with the low volume of his voice made his statement go completely unnoticed by you. well, that was until you felt a hand on your shoulder. at first, you naturally tensed at the sudden contact but after realising that it was your boyfriend, your shoulders began to relax.
“y/n? are you okay?”
though the room was dimly lit, you could still make out the look of concern etched on his face and the way his brows knit together as he studied your face, trying to figure out was was wrong.
“oh channie-ah, i’m sorry i didn’t notice you just now. i’m okay, just have a bit of work to catch up on” you sigh through your words. though your words insisted that you were fine, the weary look in your eyes told a different story.
“are you sure, y/n?” he asked once more, his tone growing more and more worried.
“yeah, im just…” you didn’t even have the energy or the brain capacity to think of a feeling and in that moment, your walls came crumbling down. you rarely ever let anyone into the depths of your heart — let alone your boyfriend. But in that moment, the weight of stress and fatigue became so all-encompassing, so suffocating, that you simply shattered.
you dropped your head down in defeat, finally accepting that you weren’t as formidable as you believed — that your emotions were strong enough to overpower even the toughest parts of you.
“hey—hey y/n, look at me. talk to me, tell me what’s going on, please?” chan pleaded, his heart aching for he thought he had failed to protect the sunshine of his life from the cruel storms of emotion.
silence filled the room except for the gentle yet broken sobs that racked your body with each falling tear. your silence was all the invitation he needed to simply hold you tightly, offering all warmth and comfort to your shaking body. he silently wished that all the warmth from his body would be enough to relight the fire in your heart again. he wanted you back.
minutes passed by yet chan remained in the same position without moving a muscle, no matter how uncomfortable, rubbing soothing circles onto your back. he simply could not bear the thought of you leaving his arms tonight.
as your sobs quieten down, you slowly lifted your head up. your eyes were glassy and rimmed with red, swollen from the flood of tears you couldn’t hold back. without saying a word, he cupped your face gently, using his thumb to swipe away any tears that threatened to fall from your eyes.
staring at his face, the tears that clung to your lashes started to fall again. the thought of having someone who cared so deeply and earnestly for you made your heart throb with a bittersweet mix of gratitude and vulnerability.
“hey, you’re okay. i’m right here okay? i’m not going anywhere,” chan reassured, brushing a few strands of hair away from your face with tender fingers. you nodded weakly, then slipped out of your chair and into his lap on the floor. without hesitation, he cradled you in his arms, one hand stroking your hair with utmost care, your fingers lightly clutching his shirt — as if you were afraid to lose him. his presence. his warmth.
this was all you needed in that moment: to be as close to him as possible, to feel the steady beat of his heart against your ear.
note: wow!! thank you if you read till the end >< i’m open to criticism + stuff that i can improve on so please lmk what you think of this! also thinking of accepting writing prompts/ideas because i think it’s be fun to recreate ^^ but forgive me if i’m a little slow 🥲
