Three way civil war between shippers who think catalady, catlady or LadyCatasrophe is the correct ship name.

‘catlady’ is frying me 😂 i can only imagine how contentious those would-be shipping forums are lmao. ‘lady luck’ and ‘catastrophe’ are difficult to mash together! and don’t get me started on trying to fuse them with ‘gabriel’ and ‘nathalie’ 💀 though, if it’s any help, a friend of mine has been defaulting to ‘luckastrophe.’

i haven’t fully settled on a name yet myself, but i’ve also occasionally referred to them as ‘luckstrife.’ name of the au and whatnot 😮‍💨

haven’t had the time to draw much of late, sooo random thoughts re: luck & strife—

1. ‘catastrophe’ is a bit of a mouthful to shout or exclaim, so most parisians abbreviate it to ‘catastro.’ to lady luck, though, he’s just ‘cat.’

2. nathalie and catastrophe are ‘mademoiselle’ and ‘monsieur’ to each other, if they’re feeling lighthearted.

3. on kwami snacks: gabriel maintains that real cheese is too stinky to carry on his person at all times, so he compromises with parmesan crisps. nathalie, meanwhile, keeps a rotating assortment of cookies.

4. lady luck and catastrophe’s favorite rendezvous point is (either of) the bell tower(s) of notre-dame cathedral.

5. gabriel eventually hires on an additional assistant after nathalie expresses feeling stressed and overworked… which is how i’m rationalizing they juggle their very busy double lives 💀

You know what I can't stop thinking about?

How long did Hawkmoth intend on leaving his face in her palm? Like, she obviously pulled away first. GABE, HOW LONG WERE YOU PLANNING ON SOAKING IN THE LOVING WARMTH OF HER TOUCH !?

Sometimes I like to tell myself that he was surprised at how fast she pulled away.

When we look at it frame by frame:

You can clearly see that he

a) has his eyes closed the whole time. An indicator of being in the moment and sternly concentrating on it

b) even though Mayura is pulling away and forces him to loosen his hold on her, his head remains in the same position

(Don't get me started on how he continues to hold her even though she signalled that she could stand on her own. And her hand above his heart better be some serious foreshadowing)

Nathalie, darling, I love you. But do you even know what chance you might have missed there!? He MELTED into you! Unconsciously starved of physical attention and you pull away so soon 🙃

yes, he’s also human! for now, anyway. still debating a whole lot about the background, here 😅 details might change in the future, just as a fair warning.

and i’m currently undecided on the state of the peacock, but for now… let’s say it’s unbroken. and it is on the villain’s side, with the butterfly. duusu and nooroo just can’t catch a break 💔

i mean… i can see there being a tiny fanbase for lady luck and gabriel agreste lmao. it’d probably really only take one public tender interaction for a niche market to form; who doesn’t love the idea of the cold and reclusive king of fashion having his heart melted by the city’s heroine? adrien agreste is even a fan of hers.

all that to say… there could be fic. maybe. and if there is, and nathalie were to stumble upon it… maybe it’s a guilty pleasure read, for her 😂

Having the entire city ship Gabecat and Nathabug as heroes is hilarious, but how would they both feel about it?

I mean, having entire interviews, articles, fan theories, and Gabriel's own son actively shipping them, how would they react?

oh, this is a fun question haha

short answer: they probably wouldn’t find out for a while, but once they do, it’s something that flusters them and makes them roll their eyes—but also something they’d ultimately ignore. if it gets brought up at all, they’d (very briefly) chuckle about it together as lady luck and catastrophe, and are unlikely to discuss it further.

long answer: so, i imagine it takes a while for both 1) intrigue to build around their relationship, and 2) them to notice it lmao. between their combined aloofness and professionalism, there’s very little between them in the beginning for the mainstream public to notice and latch onto. they don’t go out of their way to interact with people in-person, and they don’t personally make any habits of looking themselves up on social media or indulging curious paparazzi.

that doesn’t change much even after their relationship with each other deepens, nor after they become more affable and approachable with the city they save. they’re friendlier, sure, but they almost never accept interviews or speak to reporters unless it’s to impart something pertinent for paris’ safety. gabriel and nathalie as individuals are exceptionally private people, and that need for privacy is only stronger as catastrophe and lady luck.

course, lack of confirmed information only makes speculation more fervent, so… y’know how that goes 😅 and fortunately or unfortunately, they’re both extremely unaware that the entire city wants them to bone lmao. i mean, okay, they’re aware to a degree that people enjoy the idea of them together, but so much so that there’s merch? and a fanbase? and tabloids, and theories, and betting pools? INSANITY. KIND OF UNCOMFORTABLE. A LITTLE FUNNY. maybe it makes their hearts skip a beat, a little. BUT MOSTLY UNCOMFORTABLE.

regardless, if it ever came to their attention, they wouldn’t let it impact their relationship cos they’re definitely not going to let public opinion dictate their dynamic. anyway, the only thing they’ve both got the capacity for, at the moment, is being a team; knowing they can rely on and trust each other. they’re content to let their feelings (whatever those may be…) sit and simmer. for now.

I think it's entirely possible that the love square as presented leads to the very funny situation of Adrien being the one to inform Natalie/Gabriel that everyone in Paris thinks they're dating.

Gabe doesn't seem like the type to be as explicit in his flirtations as Chat noir, so it'd make sense for Nath to not pick it up because Gabe is intentionally keeping it as cool and ambiguous as possible.

and gabriel’s definitely not as explicit in his flirtations as chat noir would be! part of that’s because he’s still only just beginning to move on from emilie, so he’s not being intentional about it—just being chivalrous for courtesy’s sake, maybe with the occasional tease once he’s grown more comfortable.

when it does become intentional, his flirtation’s more about… proximity, i guess. he’s more tactile. and he’ll find unobtrusive ways to slip the occasional compliment in. cool and ambiguous is a good way to describe it 🙂‍↕️
