I would like to get a physical bible for myself and want to attempt reading the entire bible in July 2025 when I get a month-long break. My church uses ESV. I see you use NASB, and I'm wondering from your perspective, if I desire to read the entire scripture (but does not have lots of jewish or historical biblical knowledge), which version should I use for my challenge?

Honestly, just for reading, I'd go with the ESV. It's a more pleasant reading experience in English. The NASB is a bit more of a word for word, 1 for 1, kind of a translation, and that makes it better for like, intensive in depth study. That's why I use it for preaching and things like that.

But the ESV is better for reading since it's takes a look more at the idea. So it's not going to stick as closely to the Greek word order and things like that. So it's going to phrase things in a way that makes more sense for English and will have a better flow. So when I'm just reading the Bible to read it, without having the original text in mind, I prefer the ESV. Both are great translations, but for a bible reading plan, the ESV would probably be the way to go.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people start a statement with a qualifier based on their identity. "As a Christian," "As a physician," "As a gay person." etc. Just say what you have to say. If your statement doesn't speak for itself, don't bother saying it.

I was very anti-subtitles until I had kids. You try watching tv without subtitles while a toddler runs, screams, laughs, cries, etc. as loud as he can in the room with you and see how much you can make out.

my snowflake opinion is that subtitles should always be on by default, and their incorporation should be considered an essential part of the design process tbh

Hands down the most interesting landlord special I've seen so far. Oddly tilting stairs w/carpet, teeny shower at the top, toilet pole b/c there's not much room to maneuver up there, then the sink on the floor so you can wash up from the stairs. Luxury towel heater, though.
