august gets pretty blue around valentine's day, but it's not something he'd ever let on about, or make too obvious, as he doesn't want anyone asking why. it just happens to really prick at how lonely he is, & the overzealous commercialisation of it is inescapable & so it's really all he can think about for at least the two weeks leading up to it, or whenever it really starts to hit full swing. he's similar with most family / friend-oriented holidays too, but he's usually able to find some friends to spend those ones with, so the loneliness is less pervasive. but a holiday centred around romance ? yeah, he can't find a way to deal with that meaningfully, so it just kinda eats at him & there's little he can do about it. he may be worse at responding to texts, calls, job enquiries in this time, too --- he'll be back to normal from about feb 20 onwards i promise
