So after establishing Shinichiro's mental health depends on Mikey since he's his last family member he knew of before his life collapsed
He would've become a – the – influential organized crimes member of Japan; stopping only because he had to take care of Mikey. By doing so, canon happens, and Mikey finds himself, in every single future timeline (final timeline aside) as the most influential criminal of Japan. Everyone dies around him or he makes them leave, the same way OG Timeline Shinichiro seems to do (albeit to a lesser extent, but then, OG timeline Shinichiro wasn't the most influential criminal in Japan - he was even arguably a criminal). Shinichiro's last 4 years in the OG timeline were a living hell. Mikey's life is a living hell. Shinichiro saving Mikey's life was a selfish decision; a world where Mikey's alive is paradise, no matter what may happen. Except the hands of time and Karma don't work that way – and a world where everybody dies but Mikey isn't a paradise world for Mikey. He has to lose everyone so as to stay alive; and he isn't even the one who made the decision. Yet, he's the one paying the price
Shinichiro and Mikey's arc are very similar. And I wonder if the curse isn't Shinichiro's grief or something else. One thing is sure though, and that is that it's Shinichiro's. Whatever that thing might be (aside a metaphorical depiction of Mikey's mental health but ehhhhhh) it's Shinichiro's. It's his curse, and it's his love, and it's his choices, and it's his selfishness, and it's his grief and it's his pain and—
And everyone, mostly Mikey, have to suffer the consequences that should've fell on him.

So how do people think time leaping actually works? Im curious about everyone's opinion. (Btw I'm talking about mainly about tokyo revengers) I just assumed, since time-leaping is consciousness jumping to the former body, then it's just memories that are transferred. Maybe not even consciousness but only memories (I just found this is the general definition) because if for example Mikey time leaped to the og timeline I dont think his consciousness would be regained, so I think memories are transferred to the younger body but then what's the reason the time leapers' older bodies (takemichi) become unconscious?
And then why I think it's only memories (or also consciousness) is bc idk... your brain won't go teleporting with you, so if you're jumping back to you brain still not having a developed frontal lobe and all of that, then your age doesn't rlly change from the age of the body? Like the physical brain has enormous influence on the decision making an all of that. But on the other side the advantage of much more life experience that u lived through still makes you more mature? Does it mean you're still older than ur body? I wonder about the time-leaping impact on all the time leapers and triggers in tokyo revengers.

Yeah Mikey 100% wasn't kidding while saying he will be lonely in this timeline:// Life is not a Disney Channel and perfect solutions don't exist so they're still very hurt in the final timeline.
Honestly, Chifuyu has no right to be the only non-timeleaper remembering everything, if he remembered then I'm sure others also had some visions, even if they only acknowledge it as nightmares or whatever. Tbh maybe Chifuyu probably remembered more because at some point takemitchy decided to tell him the truth like the first time? And it all just went kicking in. (Also I like to think Mikey told Shinichiro about the time-leaping too, I think it would be too difficult to hide.) But It's just me trying to make sense of something that doesn't have sense.
Idk if its because of the genre but it seems it's so easy to miss just how dark some characters and things are in tokyo revengers 😭💔 like even the fact most of the plot is happening when theyre 13-15 is insane. Theyre not okay, and theyre not perfect at all, some are able to get out and try to rebuild their own future, but some can't do that and stay behind. Yet all of them will carry the scars of what happened forever.

This is SUCH an interesting view on 'dark impulses' omg im keeping it in mind now. Dark Mikey just protecting Mikey😭🩷. About the Shinichiro being controlling, we know it's because he loved mikey and his love for mikey was the only thing that hasn't changed (actually his own well being always seemed dependant specifically on mikey's:(,,) but I'm more interested in how Mikey's state is literally the loss of the rest of agency he had. (I always loved talking about mikey's agency) I think I know what you mean. Like, he was kept alive artificially by machines so long that his body started eating on itself. He was dead right? His brain was dead, if I remember right. But his body was kept alive because people around him couldn't accept it (except baji), and I know it's cruel to judge the grieving family but at the same time, while he was dead his body was still used to bring comfort for his loved one, only being buried and 'in peace' when the body itself could withstand no longer. Oh god If I were sanzu or Baji I wouldn't be able to stand seeing the horrible situation the family was in and Shinichiro pretending Mikey is still Mikey.
Damn I loveee Sano family for being so complex. They're all victims but love each other but are all they have, but have a lot of emotional baggage too.
Am I the only one genuinely not accepting that Dark Impulses are some sort of supernatural thing? Like, I keep forgetting about the fact it's in manga cause I simply refuse to believe it makes sense😭. It should be a metaphor. And it stopped working that way when it was suddenly magically cured. (which u can’t do with mental illnesses and trauma.)

before i proceed, this is not a hate post!!! i am just saying things
i need people to understand that part of shinichiro's "charm" and appeal as a character, is that he isn't as good as people pointed him out to be. he's not the best person in the world. he isn't an "uwu" goody two shoes. he's pretty flawed and kinda selfish sometimes. he has good intentions ofc, but most of the time, they fall flat because of the outcome. and before people argue with me, lemme pull out some receipts
sano shinichiro has:
told haruchiyo to forgive mikey for uh *checks notes* mutilating his face
said "that's just how he is" in reference to haruchiyo swinging a katana at people and ending up in jail because of it
disregarded haruchiyo's mental health when it came to time leaping and made him shoulder the burden of his demented younger brother (😭)
gave an 8 year old time leaping powers because he had good vibes
murdered someone
let's stop pretending he didn't do anything wrong. love shinichiro for who he is!! a huge fucking idiot who has no foresight. with a really big heart, that is slightly compromised. because he's probably a traumatized kid. not like he had to raise his younger siblings with no support or anything. his mom died and his dad was a fucking hoe, then he died without ever being present in his life. the guy had it rough which in turn made him a little rough. i don't understand how you can like a character by fabricating facts about them and denying the actual...facts. i hate some of the things that shin has done, but i still love him. i am a true shin fan because i accept that he's fucking great and an inspiration to so many people but he's also kinda awful a bit <33.
(this post was inspired by a post @chaoticdelinqueerwithglitter made but idk how to link things!!! so check out their blog :))

Jumping across the two same trees while on a minecraft server with my friend: yeah so to me mikey is basically both a girl and boy at the same time, like he's a boy but also the story treats him like the heroine, a princess who needs to be saved, the dead wife in the beginning of the movie. He's not feminine yet has the gentle charm of a beauty who should be taken care of and you feel an urge to protect. Like, you know how Jesus is equally human and Devine at the same time? Yeah mikeys kind of like that. Funny how they were both betrayed by their closest friends and were destined to bear the weight and punishment of the sins of others, both at the hands of their father figure. He loves the world yet the world has turned its back on him. He's super cute like a girl but in a boyish way.
My friend getting blown up by a creeper: what the fuck

I'm not normal because everytime I see a scene of Draken beating up Mikey of all people after Emma's death, or anything else happening to Mikey - I get through 4 stages of grieve and never come to acceptance🙏. I want him to be well and for everyone to stop saying everything is his fault🥹. I swear to god no other character impacted me so much nor do i feel so much for, ever since I've read tokrev 4 years ago.

some sano siblings headcanons
Mikey:
- (sad) I loved how real his mental illness (let's not talk about the curse) is depicted in Black Dragons Arc so I hc he regularly has these little moments of psychosis that freaks others out (delusions etc.) (not in a violent dark impulses way), but because of how reserved he is, are easier for them to ignore.
-he would listen to european 80/90s rock out of nostalgia because of shin but his heart belongs to city pop/1st gen kpop (mikey with candy - h.o.t🥹🩷)
-he would learn kpop dances with emma🩷
-he would enjoy japanese literature (looking at dazai osamu. let's be basic), he never learned how to study/read books so his attention span only lets him read such short books focusing on feelings/thoughts with little descriptions.
-he's got a spirit of a theatre kid. I mean, look how he's fighting in the final battle. It's as if he was dancing. He's very dramatic too.
- i think both him and emma avoided going to baji's house because baji's mom reminded them too much of their own mom who already passed away and they didn't want to get hurt again/ look into her sorry eyes that know everything. (she's the only adult that actually sees them all as kids)
Emma
- We know she loves fashion right. She wears elegant and cute outfits but she would appreciate any artistic freedom. She'd love seeing gyaru or vkei and malice mizer fashion (if she had the money she would be one of those fangirls that travel across the country)
-she pretty much believes in yōkai and yūrei.
-she collects pretty dolls but is too scared to fall asleep when they're staring at her so she keeps them in mikey's room.
-she's seen as a mean girl in school but in reality she's the one who makes bullies go away. Shes's especially very protective over girls. She'd rather threaten and deal with the bad guys herself (she can be crazy too) but when the situation gets to dire she calles mikey/baji/draken.
-I think she's very impulsive and likes adrenaline. She would love roller coasters.
-and I think she's afraid of turning into her mother. The first scene with takemitchy (ugh ill never understand why wakui drew a 14 year old so explicit.) could be done better but it brings up an important point: just like the rest of these kids she seems to wants to grow up faster. She similtanuosly wants to act like her mother to try to understand her but is just as scared of it.
- i think she tries to conform to society and the gender roles, she wants to feel safe and have a good life but at the same time when she sees someone being subjected to unfairness or being ostracized, she can’t just stay indifferent.
I'll do izana and shinichiro hcs later!!

About Mikey and the curse as a yōkai.
ughh mikey's mental illness being turned into just a 'curse' was offending and harmful enough but i'm confused why nobody mentions the context of the existence of yōkai and especially kitsune-tsuki.
If someone doesn't know what's up with that then: generally japanese people have a bigger connections with believing in supernatural stuff, because of shintoism. So like in lots of places, those things that couldn't be explained by the science at the time, were explained by the existence of 'ghosts' (yōkai). And there's one specific yōkai i'm thinking about - kitsune-tsuki, that has been throughout japanese history a way to explain mental illness in people. And especially mental illnesses that make you act 'hysterical' and 'violent' or see things that weren't there. This ghost was thought to posses the person, which in turn lead to forceful 'banishing' the ghost out of body, and the victim and their family being ostracized.
The problem is, it is still kind of ingrained in japanese culture, creating the stigma around such illnesses. And it's just so weird of wakui to possibly make that connection at the last minute, and feed into these stereotypes after writing such interesting depiction of mental illness. I mean, the person possesed is literally described as becoming unstable and agressive.
I didn't know that much about kitsune-tsuki before so i made a research to see if i'm reaching but:
1. it is said this yōkai posseses an individual or haunts the family if there's a curse involved. (🫠)
Tumblr media
2. the appearance of the possesed human changes to a more 'animalistic' one.

Yeah... I'm really not feeling so good about this. But if I'm wrong I'd be happy to have a discussion.
