The Ultimate Walking Dead Fan is ME!!!
I’m pretty obsessed with the show, The Walking Dead. It’s on my mind probably more than it should be. I love everything about it (though I still don’t like Andrea or Jessie a.k.a. Messie).
I was going along quite happily without TWD in my life. I actually had no desire to watch TWD. I had been hearing about the show, but hadn’t been very motivated to check it out. One night, scrolling through Netflix, TWD popped up. So I thought, “Why not?” I’m not sure how the show got advanced to this point, but what came up was episode 1, season 4: Terminus. I’m looking at this line of men kneeling before a long tub wondering what the heck was going on and what was going to happen and then…something did happen!
Thunk, slice, splash!!!
I.
Was.
Mortified!!
Various and sundry swear words flew out of my mouth! I had a visceral reaction of “HELL NAW!!!” and immediately turned it off, vowing never to watch that show again.
I didn’t watch it again…for at least a year.
Fast forward 1 year later. I’m a therapist by profession and I got a new client. A young, shy teenage girl who only watched TWD and one other show. She would go on and on about the show and how much she loved Rick and Daryl and Carol and Michonne. Every session, I found myself in a conversation about TWD. It was clear I was not going to escape watching this show and if I wanted to understand more about this girl, I had better hunker down and watch.
So I turn on the first episode, and it was as bad as I thought it was going to be. Just gross. I swear I watched the first 2 seasons with “permagrimace” on my face while yelling “Ugh, this is disgusting! How can she watch this?!” at various points. But I was going to power through. The reality is, well before the 2nd season, I was already hooked. My face was still grimacing, but I had come to understand that there was a wonderful story line in this show and it was well worth getting accustomed to the gore to get to it.
From the time I sat down to watch the first episode until I finished at season 5 (that’s all that was on Netflix at the time) just 2 weeks had passed. I was completely watching the show like a person addicted to drugs chased a fix. I would stay up through the night, continuing to hit play on the next episode. I didn’t care that I was going to pay for the next day. Why? Because I was just going to do it all over again the next night. My husband was looking at me crazy! I didn’t care. I was immersed in the world of TWD and I LOVED it!
When I finished season 5, season 6 had not yet premiered. I went into full withdrawal!  I did the only thing I could do. I started back at episode 1, season 1 and I watched the whole thing again.
So I’m in this contest that AMC is putting on and the competition is fierce. I was in the lead for the longest time and things are heating up. Someone has scooped my lead but I am certainly not giving up. Competition is good for the spirit. It just shows how many people are touched by this show. So if you are reading this, I hope that you will vote for me, Rhonda B, to be the next Ultimate Walking Dead Fan. To do so go to : http://www.amc.com/shows/talking-dead/exclusives/ultimate-fan-search and click the green arrow for me. Unfortunately, you also have to down vote the other folks. Wish that wasn’t a part of it, but I didn’t make the rules. You can vote as much as you like, just refresh the site. If you’re bored and looking for something to do, vote Rhonda B. like, 100 times. If you’re waiting for your food to cook, vote Rhonda B. 75 times. If your baby is taking a nap, get in 200 votes for Rhonda B.
VOTE! VOTE!VOTE!!!
