Born in Bern in 1983, Rico Baumann grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles from an early age. From 2003 to 2007 he studied at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern with Billy Brooks, Jan Fabricky and Fabian Kuratli. In 2006 Rico Baumann received a grant from the Friedl Wald Trust. His musical activities could hardly be more varied. Apart from his own group Next Generation Orchestra he plays in various groups, both small and large, and is a sought after drummer for jazz and improvised music (Der Wawawa, Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Ballbreaker Ensemble der Jazzwerkstatt Bern, Weird Beard, Anton And The Headcleaners, Amygdala) just as much as he is for hip hop, pop and electronic music (Baze, Sarda, Danee Woo, KG & Morricone). With these groups he also tours in Germany, Austria, Holland, Denmark, France, Italy, Poland, Czech Republic, Belgium, Ukraine, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary and Japan. Further concerts and gigs with European Jazz Orchestra, Elina Duni, Hildegard lernt fliegen, Colin Vallon, Harald Härter, Kaspar Ewalds Exorbitantes Kabinett, Electric Blanket, Torun Eriksen, Bonaparte, Stefanie Heinzmann, Luzern Jazz Orchestra, Young Choreographers (Stadttheater Bern), Emma Murray and many more.
