Having grown up as the Emperor's ward after her mother's tragic death, it was no wonder Isaura would end up becoming Captain of the Guard. After so many years chasing down petty criminals and doing little more than paperwork, though, she's also become numb and indifferent, both to the Emperor's treatment and to the suffering she herself causes on his behalf.

The great scholars and scientists of the Mansur family have had the Emperor's favor and generous funding for many, many decades, so of course, Leone is not about to refuse his requests. However, after meeting Doderic and a young grígora who seem to really need his help, he becomes a little... distracted from his duties.

Concept sketches of Doderic and the stable's most beloved grígora, Gotita (Little Raindrop).

Professional, efficient and no-nonsense stablehand Doderic pretty much hates everyone but the animals he cares for, and the all-powerful goddess he worships. Inside, though, he's a softie, especially for a young grígora whose right wing just was never able to develop. The problem is, Gotita is all grown up now, and her natural urge to fly is making everything more dangerous for everyone, but mostly herself.

As the poor, half-breed son of a sylphid war prisoner and a human factory worker, Héctor has had a very rough upbringing, though he'd rather not think about any of that stuff and just enjoy the sport he loves. And visiting taverns. And doing some occasional petty crimes. Fideo, formerly his father's grígora, isn't exactly happy with his master's lifestyle.

Former racer and brisball star Nazim is very concerned with her reputation, but when she gets stuck with a roomate who's uncovering the secrets of their corrupted government, she figures perhaps being a hero might be even better than being a sportsball hotshot.

Ozara is a former mail officer for the Emperor's Guard who has just been assigned her first big job in the big city. She's having trouble adjusting her views and expectations, especially since corruption seems to be so common amongst members of the Guard...

Starting out a new account for my comic project! It's still at an early stage so some things may still change, but I wanna share my process with you guys and keep it all neat in its own blog.

Riders of Katai (title subject to change) is a steampunk fantasy comic project about a group of pegasus riders living in a heavily mechanized society. It explores the dualities between faith and proof, magic and technology, the biological and the artificial, and what progress really means. I plan for it to touch on mature themes like sex and addiction as well.
