When a card game is born, some cards are overpowered on purpose due the few options players has to build a strong deck. As the game grows, these cards turns from miracle draws, into complete unfair plays.
“Change of Heart” has always been that card nobody wanted to face against. It was a costless, free of choice monster control card which almost every game finished with it. Behind such a beautiful artwork, we find a spell which took away flip monsters, made any monster perfect for tribute with, or direct attack with the strongest and only monster the opponent possess.
We got various versions of this card to be replaced. “Snatch Steal” had a life recovery effect granted to our opponent, but was till very unfair, “Brain Control” was simply a face-up only “Change of Heart” which still gave the same problems, while “Mind Control” became an staple for Synchro and Xyz summons. In “Abyss Rising”, we’ll get a new spell, “Mental Corruption”, being more restrict about change controlling effects.
While spells tries to be more and more restrict for avoid another disaster like “Change of Heart”, we still have various monsters to use control schemes. The Alien archetype’s main focus is to manipulate the opponent’s creatures. “Mark of the Rose” is basically the “Snatch Steal” of any Plant-type duelist. “Jowls of Dark Demise”, “Brain Jacker”, and “Rafflesia Seduction” are pesky flip monsters nobody expects to battle. “Reshef the Dark Being”, “Number 11: Big Eye”, and “Magi Magi ☆ Magician Gal” are walking “Change of Heart”s ready to use the spell effect by low costs. Lastly, discard effect monsters like “Puppet Plant” and “Electric Virus” became important cards in any Side Deck for face the strongest competitive players.
All this list of cards still can’t match the power “Change of Heart” had once it was played. Besides negation trap cards, there was null countermeasures against this game breaking card besides “Remove Brainwashing”. A card which shall never come out of the forbidden category.

This is a picture of Luke Rowles when he was 15. He saw a group of men in a garden, kicking and beating this poor fox whose mouth had been sealed shut with duct tape. Lucas went straight to them without regard to his own safety, he shouted at the men and grabbed the fox. After healing his wounds, he freed the animal. Today, Luke continues rescuing animals for the RSDR - The world needs more brave people like Luke, with an unconditional will to help those in need. - found dis on fb
