             “Riiiiiiiiight.” Leave it to Torres to take the weekend off when perhaps the coolest mass she’s seen in six months walks through the door. Coolest and heavily intimidating, anyway, which makes it right up her alley. As for Dr. Harris? Tablet is lifted up to his eye level, displaying one of several scan slides. “How’s this for treading carefully?”

            A picture’s worth a thousand words, and she’s got four more slides of ribcage mass to get through.

             “You PAGED, Dr. Yang? And I haven’t had my coffee yet so tread carefully….”

               A slow day in the OR rotation was practically a death sentence to any surgeon, least of all an ortho—it had gotten to the point where Callie was checking scut. Who did that? Dr. Calliope Torres, MD, master of the bone saw and all-around ortho badass didn’t (unless she was desperate—which she totally wasn’t). A sigh falls from her lips as her name is called out and she looks up from the paperwork in front of her, only to let her gaze fall again to examine the scans in front of her—and in less than three seconds, her eyes have widened with shock, amazement—and joy. 

               “Oh, there is no way you’re setting foot in that OR without me.” And now she’s clutching the scans, holding each one up to the light, getting that first assessment for the twelve—no, fifteen hour surgery that’ll be taking up the rest of her day. Good thing she has a clear schedule. “Charlie Harris, I could kiss you.”

                “Oh, Dr. Torres?” he calls. There’s a hint of a self-satisfied smirk on his lips as he sticks his patient’s scans under her nose. “Don’t say I never did anything for you…” He waits a moment for the magnitude of what he’s showing her to sink in. He’s been a doctor a long time – but surgeries this cool? Not so common…
