Fallout: New Vegas: Matthew Perry

We at the Independent Fallout Wiki are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Matthew Perry, who voiced Benny in Fallout: New Vegas.

We thank him for all the good memories he has provided, and our hearts go out to his loved ones. Rest in peace, Matthew.

That Oasis weed hits different.

Small dog winning is beautiful. Imagine the next Fallout survivor calling out for Dogmeat and one of these run up to them. Just this tiny, shaking creature that has somehow survived all odds in the Wasteland and baffles everyone because that thing cannot be a real dog. Dogs don't look like that.

How is it possible that an unmutated small dog still exists? They're a synth created by Holdren to be a lap dog for other Institute personnel. They got lost in the chaos of the evacuation and the explosion at MIT and have been surviving by hiding and eating scraps from a local town. Unlike the past Dogmeat's, they're not their "own man." They're a rookie in the Wasteland and rely on you for protection and survival, even if they're as fierce as a Deathclaw. They're still less than 10 pounds.

Dogmeat is such a good boy, but we all know he has his moments. Like, rolling around in rotten Mirelurk eggs when Sole or Lone have their back turned for two seconds, and it becomes a five man operation to try to bathe him. He hates bath time and the stench coming off of him is so ungodly that several companions have to swap out or they'll vomit.

3's Dogmeat is so dramatic it sounds like he's getting murdered and Butch and Lone wrestle with him for an hour before Charon steps in and helps hold him. Mostly because he's tired of hearing them argue over whose fault it was when neither of them watched the damn dog.

Butch and Lone acting like teens, and, like, throwing a massive party at the house that spirals out of control because they have no real supervision save for Charon and it ends with him having to grab a bunch of drunk, rowdy young adults by their collars and toss them out the door all while neighbors come up to complain. The house is trashed, there's a molerat wearing a party hat in the kitchen, they're hungover, and he won't help them clean it up.

But, also, Butch and Lone blasting the radio and trying to get Charon to dance with them. He doesn't dance, or so he says.

Let's be honest, he was playing with fire here.

MacCready's "Tunnel Snakes Rule!" line feels like it's dripping in irony, but him being an unironic Butch Deloria stan would be the funniest shit ever. He was, like, twelve. Either MacCready verbally tore Butch to shreds at the front gate of Little Lamplight (and probably made him cry, let's be real) or began to hero worship him.

I think the most fascinating thing about Maxson clashing with the Sole Survivor over Shaun's existence is how he goes on and on about how Danse is an abomination because he didn't come from "the womb of a loving mother" all while his own biological mother sent him away for being "too timid." Then, she died half-way across the country while he was still a child, so he'll never get closure. Lyons even says he was raised by killers to be a killer, his childhood was bleak and robbed from him.

To see what Sole is willing to do to love and protect what he considers to be an abomination, to face a mother's wrath over a child he doesn't even consider to be real... I think it'd destroy him.

God, I wish we could've snapped and told Butch that James was dead after he greets us with "It takes some real balls coming back here after everything you and your dad screwed up. But, if you've gotta be back, might as well make yourself useful-"

The existence of Synth Shaun is so cruel. Father making this clone of himself as an experiment to see how Sole would react (and also scaring little Shaun), and ultimately, as a wish-fulfillment for a life he never had by reprogramming false memories and affection for essentially strangers onto this boy.

Poor kid is forever a reminder of a life lost for Sole, and for other Institute survivors, he's a reminder of the man who tore so many families apart. It's bad enough he doesn't have his own name, even his appearance isn't his own. He didn't ask to be made.

And while Maxson was willing to look the other way for Danse, if he knew the truth about Shaun, he'd wage war against a little boy whose only crime is existing. Of course, he'd assume Shaun is programmed to restart the Institute and continue Father's work as his successor. A life of being trained from birth to be a successor and a savior of a nearly destroyed organization is all he knows.

Like, I hate the Brotherhood, but imagining Danse seeing the Prydwen getting blown up and the Commonwealth essentially breaking out in 'No One Mourns the Wicked' over Maxson dying is rough.

"Goodness knows the wicked die alone."

"He died alone."

Any possible chance of Rhys and Haylen getting together would've been over the second Haylen ever joins the Minutemen. Not just because of idealogical differences, but because the chemistry between her and Preston and Sturges would be through the roof.
