Steve has many ways of showing he cares. carting the kids around, listening to their nerdy rants; even when he doesn't have a clue what any of it means. talking shit with Robin, giving her genuine girl advice, watching her stupid foreign films that he doesn't understand. but if he knew what love languages were, and had to pick one, his would be quality time. just spending time with each other.
[ his parents have always been busy people, with work and business meetings and charity functions and dinners. when he was very small, still little and cute enough to draw positive attention from his parents' associates and gain some extra good favor, his mother always brought him along and kept him close. he didn't care that the grown-ups were basically talking gibberish, he was happy to just be holding his mother's hand.
but eventually he grew too old to be an accessory like that, so he was left home with a nanny. and then, when they deemed him too old for that too, he was left home alone. even though he used to beg to come with, told his parents he would be quiet and good and they wouldn't even know he was there. ] (sometimes he thinks they might have taken that to heart, that they decided to live their lives like he wasn't even there.)
so that's what he really craves from the people in his life. he just wants to be with them, wants them to want him there with them.

for a while after, Steve can't get into his pool. it feels wrong to even think about enjoying it the way he always used to when it's the last place anyone ever saw Barb. sometimes, late at night when the water is all lit up and reflecting against the house and into his bedroom window, he can't even bare to look at it and spends the night into the guest room.
it isn't until after Starcourt, when Robin comes into his life and sticks around like nobody else had, that he even thinks about dipping his toes in. the August heat is stifling and they're still waiting for the new batch of popcicles to solidify in the freezer. they're splayed out on the living room floor, AC on full blast, only their pinkies are touching, when he confesses up to the ceiling that he's been thinking about getting in the pool.
a week later, she's sitting crisscross next to him on the edge, watching the water glint in the sunshine. they reapply sunscreen twice before Steve finally takes a deep breath and unfolds his legs. their fingers are laced together as his feet sink under the cool blue, as tears sting his eyes like chlorine.
Robin is there every time he wants to step in further. and finally, instead of laying on the living room floor, they're spread out on pool floaties. with their pinkies linked to keep each other from floating too far away.

men with oral fixations are overpowered because they'll always want their mouth on you cuz what else is better than having the taste of you on their tongue, the texture of your skin between their teeth
and what's better than being relentlessly consumed by the one you love

@hawkinshellraiser : [ CLIMB ] for the shorter muse to find somewhere to perch so they can be eye level with taller muse. for steve <3
It feels practically domestic, moving around the Munson's kitchen like this, cooking the two of them lunch while Eddie sits on the counter and watches. Like a daydream he used to have when he was younger, before his life turned totally insane -- he never really had big dreams like being famous or anything, he just wanted someone to share a life with. If only his past self could see himself now.
Pushing that line of thought down, Steve turns and holds out a spoon with a bit of homemade sauce, one hand cupped underneath to catch any stray drips. "Here, try this."

Love love love characters that present themselves as emotionally open social butterflies but the more you see of them the more obvious it is that they’re the most closed off fuckers in the story. Sure, they want to help you with your personal problems and messy emotions, but if you turn that shit back on them, they’ll shut down or deflect every time. Why are you sticking your nose in their business anyway? It’s not like it matters. They’re not a person, they’re just a role being played. They’re the guy who fixes things and saves people. Please ignore the man behind the mask, he’s fine. Everything’s fine.

Steve is good at math. it's reading and writing essays that give him trouble bc his dyslexia and his subsequent lack of effort in english class. but math is kind of easy to him, something that had once made his father almost proud back when the plan for his future was to take over the business one day.
