Day 5. Entry 1.
We have reached the final day. Presentations and submissions!
Our submission - Blue Skies Grounded Now.
Classroom presentation realised, prepared and presented by Samuel Chua.
Team members - Ivy Nathania Hyaning, Nur Irfani Rahmat, Chua Wen Xun Samuel and Rizal Sanip.
Animation Art by Ivy Nathania Hyaning assisted by Nur Irfani Rahmat. Music composed and recorded by Rizal Sanip.
For project theme. Blue. Monsieur Massot Gilles Jean Yves, our lecturer mentioned this Malay idiom.
"Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung".
Literal translation - Where your feet touch the ground, that's where the sky is pedestalled. It means that wherever we live/visit, we must observe the local customs. And laws.
As a jazz music student. The term "blue note" means the world us. For there is no jazz without the blues. Blues is a form of music invented by the oppressed African slaves, brought to America mainly to work in the cotton fields and building of railroads.
A “blue note” is a note for expressive purposes. Sung or played at a slightly different pitch than standard. Typically the alteration is between a quartertone and a semitone, but this varies depending on the musical context"(. I feel every culture has their own form of blue note. Ours here in Asia included.
Why I chose this tune amongst my other compositions for our one min Stop Motion Animation.
The four of us. Sam, Irfani, Ivy and myself. Chinese, Malay, Indonesian and Indian/Malay respectively. I used both western and our very own eastern cultural instruments to express the "blue note".
On the first day of this project, First keynote speaker, Prof. Jenny Balfour-Paul mentioned. Without the sky, there is no life. Hence the title track, Alive.
Hope you enjoy it.

"A blue note is a note for expressive purposes. Sung or played at a slightly different pitch than standard. My interpretation of the aforementioned idiom - These are the steps we take to reach for the skies.
Unfortunately we can't upload audio in Tumblr.... for u to have a listen.

Day 3. Entry 1.
Taken from day 1 lecture of Prof. Jenny Balfour-Paul.
Blue + violet = indigo
Indigo - Stable and symmetrical molecular structure. Like these two. Ivy and Irfani. I admire their youth. So young and so bright. Hard at work to finish our project. Sam is preparing for presentation. I am on leave of absence after handing them image material and music composition contribution. It's gonna be a Stop Motion Animation!

Day 2. Entry 1.
A Malay idiom to ponder. It was mentioned several times during group discussion. Nikki's sky blue eyes reminded me of it.
"di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung".
Literal translation - Where your feet touch the ground, the sky is.
It means that wherever we live, we must observe the local custom.

Day 1. Entry 2.
First group meeting. Ms Irfani, Ms Ivy, myself and Lecturer, Monsieur Massot Gilles Jean Yves. We focused on "inspiration, clarification, evaluation and distillation". Ideas flowed. Felt good! Even chose an original track to go with storyboard!

Day 1. Entry 1.
First keynote speaker, Prof. Jenny Balfour-Paul shared her research of textiles and history about the colour blue. Blue! Something you wouldn't think about. What the colour meant from culture to culture and it's availability, only in the 19th century for example. A good start, full of ideas for first group meeting.
Quote of the day taken from speaker. "You think of yourself as artistes. But you're actually scientists".
