One of the best !!!!!!!!‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
What's your favorite thing about writing fics about Scott McCall?
I spent way too long trying to figure out how to answer this question because I kept reading it and just going like, “well. everything?” Which is barely a sentence, let alone an answer, but honestly, like. Yeah. He’s everything! But I guess what I really mean by that is that he’s more.
I've been thinking a lot lately about how, like, the point of attraction can accidentally flatten a character you love. Because we all have certain traits or personalities or arcs we’re going to be invested in, and because it's what made us go 👀, it's also canon! So it's not that it's wrong, or anything. Scott is genuinely kind, and that’s very much the primary trait that I octopused around.
But he’s also more.
Not less, like that trait suddenly disappears, or better than, like it’s a thing to get rid of. But that the more I write him, the more areas of complexity I realize I've shaved off, or at least explored less, than he deserves.
So like. Scott is kind, but Scott is also angry. Scott is shaking with rage and hurt when he sees Theo in 5x19, in 6x07. His lip is curled into a barely contained sneer when he faces Peter in 4x12. His voice breaks with helpless frustration over what Derek is doing in 2x03. Scott is tight and controlled, getting quieter and terser the angrier he is (3x08 with Gerard, 4x12 again with Peter). There’s a tsunami under the surface that is so rich to dive into as a writer, made all the more fun because it’s buried so deep you can’t shortcut finding it.
But also! Scott is angry but Scott is kind! Theo hurt Scott more personally, more specifically than arguably anyone else—he murdered him because he could! Because he was petty! His hand wrapped around his organs before he left him to die alone!—but Scott still allows Theo the forgiveness he does not deserve, hearing him out when no one else will (6x07), trusting him with the safety of Liam (6x09) or Mason (6x18). He’s scared to be around Peter and avoids talking to him at all costs, justifiably upset by the presence of the man that violated him and destroyed the life he would’ve had. But also, he remembers all of that in one blistering moment of overwhelming memories—and then takes his pain (6x06)! That’s insane!!!
But. 2.0. It’s also insane because it hurts. It’s not easy. It’s not even fair, because forgiveness is in a lot of ways specifically choosing not to be fair! And Scott swallows the sun so that others won’t burn—we see this constantly in 5B—but that also means it’s his insides that are charcoaled, sometimes more than is even necessary. That’s where you get the pain and anger and the depression, which is also sooooo important to Scott’s character imo. The intense feeling that he is only worth what he can give, something that is not always helped by the narrative once again wtf 5B
And I think another really important aspect of writing Scott is that is that he’s all this, but he’s also afraid of his own anger/pain. He'd absolutely rather cope by shutting down and never talking about it again, and violently letting it out—like he's encouraged with Liam in 5x15—only really makes him feel worse! Which means it’s all that much more satisfying when you can find the right situation, right person, whatever, to crack him open and all that pain or anger or both comes tumbling out, without also sacrificing all of his other parts. It’s just good stuff!!!
And he's more than pain and anger and hurt and kindness, too! Like, he wants to be a vet so badly!! He's a good student (1x03), but he’s failing two classes (2x07)! He’s studying constantly (3x05) and highlighting his entire biology course book before senior year even starts (5x02), but he’s fighting for his life every night (5x05) and missing 38 classes (6x01)! He's trying to apply for colleges (5x02) but also dying and missing scholarships (5x19) but also he fought his way into UC Davis (6x10)!! And Deaton clearly sees a lot of talent in Scott, and I just think we deserve waaaaay more biology nerd Scott<3
Anyway he's smart and he's funny and he's angry and he's kind and he's hurting and he's loving and!!!! Writing Scott is just so fun. It’s everything.

It says a lot about Harry and Hermione’s relationship that Dumbledore counted solely on Hermione to slow him down.
Who else would he listen and trust so deeply if not Hermione. She’s probably the only one who could temper his instinctive, sometimes reckless, drive to act. Dumbledore understood that Harry’s strength was also his weakness, his fierce loyalty, his instinct to protect, and his refusal to back down could easily lead him into danger without a second thought. Hermione, with her careful reasoning, deep knowledge, and unflinching loyalty of her own, was the perfect counterbalance.
Hermione is not just Harry's friend, she is his anchor. While Harry leads with his heart, Hermione brings foresight and caution. She doesn’t seek to control him, but to steady him. Time and again, she challenges him to think, to plan, to consider consequences. And Harry, for his part, recognizes and deeply values this about her.
Just as Hermione grounded Harry, Harry taught Hermione to be brave, to trust her heart, even when the facts were uncertain.
In their early years at Hogwarts, Hermione clung to rules, books, structure and knowledge was her safety. But Harry, by nature, was always willing to leap into danger when someone needed help. Over time, Hermione learned that bravery sometimes meant stepping into the unknown, even without all the answers. As she once said, "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things — friendship and bravery."
That lesson came from Harry.

Review: Tony Stark: Iron Man #1-4
Tumblr media Tumblr media
something about young Tony Stark that really gets me... he's just a lil guy :-(
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The way he overwhelms Andy is too funny, this was a really fun introduction to the character.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the rhodeytonybeth agenda is real!! I love it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really appreciate the exploration of rhodey's post-death trauma, but I wish there was more than just him using the Manticore to feel less claustrophobic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jocasta's dilemma is really interesting too... her position is 'Chief Robot Ethicist' & her role is to help establish an equal relationship between human and non-human life, while she simultaneously wants to feel accepted by her human peers. It's sad to be honest, esp considering her whole backstory, she doesn't feel like she fits in at all :(
Tumblr media
the art fro #3's cover is gorgeous!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aaron Stack's arguments are interesting for sure, but they're over-shadowed by the quip's a little. They also frame Jocasta's desire to enter the e-Scape interestingly...
(All the little robot-jokes are so good though, I feel like it makes the whole issue really light-hearted)
Tumblr media
I love that given the chance to choose any character, Tony chooses to dress up as Stephen hahaha
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So does this presumably mean that he created the e-Scape to feel equal to all other users?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jocasta and Tony seek out the e-Scape (and/or image inducer) for similar reasons: dissonance in their own sense of self.. it's pretty interesting to see the parallels.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay wait,, slight whiplash here.. I was really seeing the TonyJocasta vision there for a second, but then here comes Jan!
I would really like an exploration of Tony and Jo's similar problems, wether that be romantic or not.. I just want them to talk it out!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
that being said... I adore them as a couple, so no complaints at ALL. Look at them, my little sweetie pies with their romcom parallels <3
Tumblr media
Honestly, the robot-ethics aspect is interesting. I think it was purposefully made to feel really obstructive and a little irritating to emphasize it's need?
Tumblr media
The ending was pretty cutesy. The whole story was interesting. Each issue holds up quite nicely as one-shots even, and the resolution is satisfying and creative.
It definitely makes you want to keep reading the series though, if not to explore the deeper plot of Sunset's scheming, but for more TonyJan in the amazing art-style of Valerio Schiti <3
I really enjoyed the exploration of the personal turmoils of the supporting characters and I hope they continue to explore it (i.e. Rhodey's PTSD and Jo's insecurities). Looking forward to the rest of this series!
