Family Dollar will be sold to private equity groups Brigade Capital Management and Macellum Capital Management, pending regulatory approval that is expected to clear next quarter. Dollar Tree bought Family dollar in 2015 for $9 billion.

“The Dollar Tree leadership team and Board of Directors determined that a sale of Family Dollar to Brigade and Macellum best unlocks value for Dollar Tree shareholders and positions Family Dollar for future success,” the company said in a statement.

Family Dollar has around 8,000 US stores, catering to low-income customers predominantly in cities with prices typically ranging from $1 to $10. The chain has struggled in recent years. Last year, Family Dollar announced plans to close more than 900 stores and was put up for sale.

Messy stores, high prices and over-expansion have plagued Family Dollar, analysts say. The chain has also faced steep competition from larger retailers, such as Walmart.

The sale of Family Dollar “closes the book on a sad and troubled chapter for Dollar Tree,” Neil Saunders, an analyst at GlobalData Retail, said in a note to clients Wednesday. “Dollar Tree bit off far more than it could chew.”

The Avengers are assembling once again. Marvel is announcing the cast of “Avengers: Doomsday” in a livestream on YouTube and its social media channels, using a hashtag for the film’s title.

Among the returning cast members are Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier, Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man and more. Meanwhile, new superheroes are also being introduced to the Avengers ensemble: Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing have been announced so far. Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who portrayed antagonist Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” was also revealed to be part of “Doomsday,” though it’s unclear what role his character will play.

Severance began as a show about office drones desperate to escape a psychic prison, but in its second season, the severed floor of Lumon Industries has started to feel more like a gilded cage. In response to the attempted jailbreak staged by the workers of Macrodata Refinement at the end of the first season, Lumon, a sprawling global conglomerate with nebulous but undoubtedly sinister aims, introduced a series of workplace reforms aimed at placating their restive employees. But they were mostly either cosmetic—upgraded vending-machine snacks!—or unenforceably vague, and the promises of a more open and human workplace quickly faded away once it became clear that Mark S. (Adam Scott) and his fellow rebels weren’t likely to be bought off with a few insubstantial gestures. Two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman dies at age 76

Big" George Foreman, one of the most influential and recognizable boxers of all time, died Friday, his family announced on his social media account. more..

He was 76.

Foreman, who captured an Olympic gold medal in 1968, was a two-time heavyweight champion and Hall of Fame boxer.

He's perhaps best known for the historic Rumble in the Jungle bout with Muhammad Ali in 1974 in Zaire, a fight Foreman lost in an upset via eighth-round KO. It's arguably the most famous fight of all time, and the "When We Were Kings" film that chronicled the fight won an Oscar for best documentary feature.

Foreman made history yet again later in his career. He fought five more times after he lost the heavyweight championship to Ali at age 25, including a fifth-round TKO victory over Joe Frazier (whom he stopped in two rounds to first win the title) and a fifth-round KO of Ron Lyle in a classic slugfest. more..

A Receita Federal liberou na manhã desta quinta-feira, 13, o programa para preenchimento do Imposto de Renda 2025. Importante destacar, porém, que o prazo para envio da declaração começa na segunda-feira, 17, e se estenderá até 30 de maio.  more...

Pelo computador, o contribuinte poderá baixar programas para os sistemas operacionais Windows, MacOS, Linux e Multi acessando a página da Receita Federal em Programas de Declaração. Basta clicar na opção Programa IRPF 2025, Ano-calendário 2024.

Já a declaração pré-preenchida só será disponibilizada a partir de 1º de abril. A partir dessa data a declaração do Imposto de Renda também poderá ser preenchida de forma online, pelo e-CAC, sem precisar baixar ou instalar nenhum programa, ou, ainda, pelo app Receita para celulares e tablets.

O governo espera receber neste ano 46,2 milhões de declarações, sendo 57% delas na opção pré-preenchida. Em 2024, foram recebidas 43,2 milhões de declarações.

Uma das principais mudanças foi a alteração no valor de rendimentos tributáveis anuais que obrigam a entrega da declaração, de R$ 30.639,90 para R$ 33.888,00. A Receita também alterou o limite da receita bruta de obrigatoriedade para atividade rural, de R$ 153.999,50 para R$ 169.440,00.

The first full-length trailer for Disney's upcoming live-action remake of “Lilo & Stitch” is here.

The nearly two and a half-minute trailer, released March 12, promises a faithful adaptation of the beloved animated classic.

The preview shows Lilo, a lonely young girl in Hawaii played by Maia Kealoha, wishing for a best friend after spotting what she thinks is a shooting star in the sky.

Lilo soon comes across a fugitive dog-like alien she names Stitch.

Just like in the 2002 animated movie, Stitch was an "experiment" scientifically engineered to create chaos and destruction. And that "star" Lilo saw in the sky? It was actually a police cruiser Stitch stole to escape the spaceship where his captors now frantically search for him.
