ALRIIIIGHT, after the series of unfortunate events that was the backpacking trip I told you guys about, I’m back! TLDR; Backpack locks don’t always work, I lost my pc with allllll the info I had to share with you guys. Go figure, right?

So we’re starting from scratch and, per my lovely Dove’s suggestion- let’s talk about kpop relative to non-debuted or already successful groups. You may not know ‘em, and you may or may not love ‘em, but entertainment companies have an overhead to meet, so let’s look at the groups we have surfacing. No, I didn’t forget about the biggest event of the year, I’ll have my take on the MGAs so far later, give a guy time to breathe (and recover from looking at the gorgeous ladies of Luxe, damn; those are to come later).

As much as Sphere isn’t one of my favorite companies, you have to applaud them for the approach they’re taking with this debut, and how outside of the bun- box, they’re going. Maybe I have an unpopular opinion here, buuuut, I like big groups, and it’s a clever marketing strategy. With a group as big as the upcoming Convex, there’s a little something for every kind of fan represented in 13 dudes. So, the showcase.

There are 13 members, that much we all know, and there’s already 3 units, though they’re you’re typical vocal/dance/rap units. One has to wonder, is Sphere planning on full sub-units already? If so, they’ve already put a lot of money into this group, so there must be a lot we haven’t been shown yet. But I digress, the hardest part is trying to figure out the best and the worst of the group right out of the gate, and honestly? I have to say I’m actually impressed with them so far.

It’s hard to pull off a pre-debut showcase like this one, and while it wasn’t anything grandiose or awe-inspiring, the YES24Muv hall was a good location, though judging by how the invited audience was screaming, they’ll need a bigger venue for the official thing. The lighting set up was basic, nothing to be really impressed by but to add ambiance. (We all know Sphere has been in hot water finance-wise). The showcase was great, everything that could be expected of it, the boys have clearly been worked and rehearsed hard, given the professional level of performance they gave for those 2 days. 

Technicalities aside, where did they dig all these guys up? I’m loving the different vibes they have (let’s talk about the height fluctuation between them all though, oh my god, HA. It could be a staircase of guys, really). If memory serves correct, Sphere has done some inter-company trading after the Samsung Merger.
