A year in review
What a year it has been.
That statement in itself is an understatement. So much happened that this is my first post for the year. In saying so much happened, not all of that was good nor bad; but a lesson from everything.
On more than one occasion I was sexually harassed. This was by someone I knew and a different person that I was serving at work as I chose to cover a shift for a friend. In both situations I couldn’t stop myself from thinking about what I could have done differently or how things could have changed. Looking back now, I responded that same way each time. You always think about how you will react but it never happens as you expect. Both times I was too terrified to say something as it happened, but clung onto some close that I trusted to confide in. To those people I’m extremely grateful.
From this I met someone who has become one of my closest friends. It started by challenging myself to make the first move and talk to the guy I was pretty sure I had class with. I was right in my guess that we did have class together, but also in that he was polite and kind and wouldn’t act the same as my harasser. Even now i’m still friends with him and have begun to trust him even more than I thought I would. This wouldn’t have happened without the fear I experienced.
More than enough family issues happened as well. We lost a family member and are close to losing the relationship between my parents. Both are things I never thought i’d have to experience before I turned 19 years of age. In both I learnt the strength of my siblings and how we can support each other. The pain had individual impacts but we could always rely upon one another. Others would have become distant, but I became kinder. Just because I had experienced such pain and loss, it did not harden my heart.
Even in my job in customer service, I still treat every single customer with the same kindness. Rudeness from one does not mean rudeness from them all. It’s always rewarding to positive comments from customers in how the kindness has made their experience more enjoyable and helpful.
Throughout this all, I survived my first year of university. I started by doing a Bachelor of Arts with a major of psychology but over this year it has now changed to a major in Public Relations. The thing I liked most about the Bachelor of Arts was the freedom to explore options. Through this I was able to decide that research was not what I wanted to pursue and that applying the practices of communications was more important.
For me, almost everything changed after high school. One thing I can say for sure is that it does get better. You do what you want to do and become who you want to be. You will become who you want to be if you work for it.
Hopefully I’ll be back again next year and be more regular xx

So today is my first year anniversary of this studyblr; today also happens to be the day that I got accepted into university. I have been accepted into a Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) at Deakin University Burwood. the course was not my original course in mind, or my first preference; but it has become the preference that matters. so i’m going to make damn sure i complete it to the best of my ability.

2016 in summary
so last year now i completed my final year of high school. the year was stressful beyond doubt. i started the year with a studyblr (this one) in the hopes of finding inspiration to do better. instead i found myself in a downward spiral in which i forgot the comfort of tumblr as a whole. i found myself caught in an anxiety inducing relationship and my parents spent the latter half of the year on the verge of separation. from the start of the year it was my goal to better the results of my older siblings and become a forensic psychologist; instead my results were over 20 points beneath their scores and the course i’m applying for is only option for me to discover what i really want to do and who i want to be.
this isn’t a post saying how bad 2016 was; it’s here to say that it did happen and now i have to live with the repercussions. what i’m doing now is not what i planned to do, but what i need to do.

The long-awaited Biology masterpost is finally here!! I am so excited to share this post with you as a few of you guys have been asking for it, and because Biology is my absolute favorite subject. Here goes nothing!!
STUDYING BIOLOGY AND TAKING NOTES
how to study biology
Sparknotes study guides
Georgetown college advice on notetaking
my post on study advice
MY ADVICE
In class: Pay attention to your professor/teacher, ask lots and lots of questions, and take avid notes! It’s one thing to listen, and a totally different thing to remember. Your notes will help you retain all of the information you are taking in! If you can, stay after school whenever you need help with a certain topic. My bio teacher holds after-school tutorials that help so much, and I would totally recommend using this resource if it’s available to you.
At home: Rewrite your notes; watch tutorials, videos, and models online to get a better understanding of the lesson you are learning; and try teaching the concept you are learning to a family member.

26 Reminders for Going to School Like a Badass
1. Your attitude dictates your experience, so start finding things to get psyched about.
2. Stock up on healthy snacks in your house!!! You’ll be glad you did when the study-munchies roll around (and they always do).
3. Invest in a good planner. Especially if you take part in multiple extra-curriculars, I can’t stress how helpful it is having a place to check back on deadlines and big events.
4. Write down all your teachers’ names and emails as soon as you get them, so you’re not searching for them when you’re absent.
5. No one is having as much fun as their snapchat story makes it seem.
6. Don’t believe what your peers tell you about tests they take before you, study how much YOU need to.
7. Be nice to your math teacher. Partial credit on math problems might save your grade.
8. Don’t throw out syllabuses/first day handouts!!!! Theres a good chance they have information on the late policy and a gazillion other helpful things.
9. In fact, try to hold on to as many papers as you can for when finals inevitably attack.
10. No one knows you wore those jeans yesterday.
11. Be conscious of how you smell. Don’t be B.O. kid, but also try not to suffocate your lab partner with the scent of artificial fruit/flowers.
12. That cookie in the cafeteria is probably not worth 95 cents. Pack snacks from home to resist overpriced school treats.
13. If you’re carrying around a travel mug of coffee, people will usually leave you alone.
14. Don’t spend more time planning your study schedule than actually studying. Just get your books out and do it.
15. Never underestimate the amount of motivation you can get from watching Legally Blonde (movie or musical).
16. Try to attend at least one school sporting event per season, even if thats not really your scene. Some teachers even offer extra credit for going to big games!
17. Don’t be that kid that asks the teacher when you’re getting your tests back. They have like a gazillion to grade. You’ll get them when they’re done.
18. Have a pump-up playlist for the ride to school and the walk to your first class. Nothing feels more badass than walking through crowded hallways while listening to Halsey’s “New Americana”.
19. Set up a back-up study zone for when you need a change of pace.
20. Don’t put off creative projects because you think they’ll be less time consuming. There’s nothing worse than glitter gluing a scale model of the U.S. Senate at 3 AM because you thought it would be quick and easy.
21. That extra 10 minutes of sleep is not worth the risk of oversleeping completely. Get up, splash your face with some cold water, and get this show on the road.
22. Find a school inspiration, whether it be a really hardworking friend or a studyblr you follow. Check their progress whenever you need motivation.
23. If someone only ever talks to you when they need to copy the homework, they’re using. Don’t indulge them.
24. Doing your own work is so SO important. Plagiarism can destroy careers.
25. Creative outlets can be so refreshing, like a diary, a private tumblr, a sketchbook, whatever floats your boat.
26. When all else fails, remember how lucky you are to be getting an education. School isn’t a punishment, its an opportunity for you to create a kick-ass foundation for the rest of your life.

Since my English teacher disapproves of how personal I made a personal essay, have a little read through the paragraphs that were discouraged.
If we do not understand the situation correctly, it may create a larger conflict and enable from moving forward. Understanding how we’re feeling may be the clarity we are searching for. This can be in terms of how do we really feel about someone? Should I draw the line here? Or even is this person supposed to make me feel like this? Only you can answer these questions for yourself; even if it is simply knowing that you don’t feel the same way towards someone or knowing that their presence is toxic in your life. Toxic people do not deserve to have an impact on your life; they only do if you allow them to. Even deciding this is a struggle within itself. You constantly seem caught between enjoying their presence, and despising how often you dislike the words that come out of their mouths. These people are in your life for a reason, discover it and learn from it. They can’t have any power over you if you don’t allow them to; no one can make you feel small, or worse without your consent. Your battles are your own, you will grow past them, allow yourself. The only person stopping you from overcoming fear and conflict is yourself.
Personally I don’t know what it feels like to have to face an internal conflict then try to overcome an external one. I’ve only struggled internally; and that was enough for me. I know exactly what it’s like to want to believe that something is right but also morally wrong. Looking back on it now, I should not have been so willing to get involved, but I was. I was willing because he was. He scared me but always made me want to not be afraid; to change my perspective and mature. I was so willing to grow up and move forward that I didn’t care who it was with. It was all an illusion with strong arms and pleasant words; but underneath that, it was nothing but false hope. Hope that things would be better if I was positive; or hope that being with him would fix every problem in my life. It didn’t fix any problem; if anything, it created more. Things got messy and I started hiding things from my family. I couldn’t tell anyone, no one would understand or approve. The only I was certain of was the judgement it could create. It was judgement where I needed support. My fear of moving on too quickly and not being able to come back stopped me from progressing; but the clarity I feel now is the strength I needed. I needed to believe in the truth of the situation and stick true to it order to overcome the authority of that little voice in my head.

I've honestly been way too stressed out to be studying in s pleasing way and it makes me so sad. It's not even because my final year is causing so much stress, it's because of a bloody guy. How I let myself become so wrapped up in him I don't even understand. He just took over my life, even school stuff; and now I'm to stressed to think straight. Pls send help

Dear anyone I guess,
We all want to save someone, to be a hero. To be acknowledged for doing something good. That's enough, even if the only person you save is yourself. We all need to spend less time trying to please people; and more time trying to please ourselves. It doesn't matter what you believe, because right now, it only matters right now. Please don't spend your entire life hating yourself and who you are. Who you are is who you're meant to be. So embrace that. It's time to be your own definition of smart; your own goals, and more importantly, your own role model. Embrace who you are, as be the person you desire to be like most. If you do that, I can promise you will live a healthy life. What's more important in life than to be healthy and happy? Sincerely, someone who wished they knew all of this a long time ago, and actually believed it.
