   ‘Glitz and glamour’ is what he called it. The attention. The fans. The support. The invites to fancy, public dinners and private dinner-parties, the faces on every other billboard he passed when driving through the city, the commercials, the voice from the soda cans, the streams he could no longer moderate or join because he was checking on TOKKI’s values, the ever-lasting smile toward a camera that thought that Hana’s near sacrifice was bravery.

   There was a time when he was jealous.

   Not often, not a lot, but the tings of negativity appeared none the less. It was fine back then, because at that time it was harmless. Hana playing a game, and yes, Dae-hyun was always well-received by her fans, but sometimes he wondered what it was like to have the same overwhelming attention she was getting.

   It happened now too.

   Dae-hyun fading into the background because all Dae-hyun was was some unknown mechanic compared to the other five (and maybe Hana’s biggest fans would recognize him, but the public did not). It was so close and yet so far, and Dae-hyun hated every second of it. The heavy feeling in his stomach — what did something as simple as jealousy matter when Hana almost died again.

   It’s only human to want attention he settled for, tried to bury the feeling along with the anger burning when they had to smile for the cameras again. As if Dae-hyun hadn’t just seen them take hits that would take a month to recover from.

   The spotlight she had? The idea, the concept of it. The attention and fans who sent gifts and messages. Yes, he wouldn’t have minded that. But the reality was rumors, and pretending to be fine, and losing your youth to a war you wouldn’t recover from.
